I'm going to make some dinner (read: put leftovers in the microwave) and watch an episode of Big Bang Theory now. After that I'm good to play a game anytime.

[EDIT]: I'm good for a game any time now if there are a couple of people that want to play.

Well I finished lunch (2 hours to eat and relax and watch a movie, so bite me :P ), so I'm up for a game if anybody is out there. Otherwise I'll just do some campaign.

Well, guess it can't be helped. Here's something to read in the meantime though, got it off relic's CoH community site.

The game against the expert computer was interesting. Key point: Vet 2 Pios (with flamers) are amazing. Also, the expert computer wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I outscored it by about 5k - 10k points although admittedly I did use my arty at a key point which racked up the kills quite a lot.

You must have lost because me and saurok svcked. He had like 6000 total points and I had 3900. :P

I'm not using enough infantry is what it is though. None of my armor survives longer than 3 seconds against AT, and I don't have enough support with them. The problem is that my resources were constantly on 0 half the game because I was building armor as fast as I could. :/

Yet they defeated us.

And that is because of me.
I should have not picked the defensive tactics. They got pretty fast through my defences.

Germans can't defend. :(

British Commando + artillery is amazing at bridge maps.

Yeah, commandos are useful because you can use most of your units to defend choke points and then drop commados behind enemy lines to harass enemies.

Given that on my own I can only just defeat a hard AI, I doubt it.

One diffrence between the Wehrmacht and the US is that the US tend to rely on their doctrines where as it doesn't matter quite as much with the Wehrmacht. They have a large amount of good units without the having to use doctrines (although they cost more). The vet is also really unbalanced in the Whermacts favour as it is a global upgrade.

Unfortunately the game isn't really geared up to defence. The idea is you should be constantly pushing the enemy. If I had one major bit of constructive criticism that spans across multiple games is that most people I have played with don't cap enough and if the enemy takes a point you don't recap it. This is mainly a problem on large maps, but in this recent game I think I capped more points than both of you put together. Sure you end up running around the map a bit but that is why the minimap is great (Number Pad 0 to open).

Also, exploit medic bunkers. If you want to play defensive with Wehr, put a MG42 in a medic bunker and give it a bit of support. In games with concentrated fighting they have earnt me at least 1000manpower in grens. The major downside is they make you play more defensively (or they do me at least)

After writing this slightly larger post, I would like to point out that I know slightly above nothing about this game.

I might pick this up, looks pretty fun. Wish I got it at the steam sale though...but I can find CoH plus opposing fronts for 10 bucks so that's good. Is tales of valor really necessary to have?

Like I said, not enough infantry on my side. I should probably have played Panzer Elite instead of Wehrmacht, since they can cap using light armor, but in the end I just didn't have anything on the field. Too many expensive units knocked out by AT before they did any damage at all ruined me.

Not really. It adds a few alternate units and a couple of campaigns but it's nothing you'll really miss if you don't have it.

I got the game and all expansions for what would be about $15 - $20 on Amazon (Company of Heroes anthology). It was cheaper than getting COH and OF on its own.

Regarding TOV, as an expansion it svcks. It doesn't add much and I wouldn't have bought it if I bought COH and OF it there own. However, if you can get it at a decent price (say < ?3) I would say it becomes worth it. It adds some (Ok, a) unit that make the British far better (Roos) and some extra game modes that people play every now and again (Stonewall). Plus, I love playing Panzerkrig for a quick simple game. However, beyond that it doesn't add anything other than some (bad) campaigns.

In other words... No. It isn't worth it if it is going to cost you anything above $5.

Ok thanks, I guess I'll hold out on buying tales of valor then.
