Constantly Freezing

I'm sure the developers will work their utmost hardest in order to earn your forgiveness.

With it being us, the consumers, that allow them to have a paycheck they would be smart to do just that. Not just his forgiveness, but everyone who is having issues with this game.

If it helps anyone, I'm doing two things and so far its helping out quite a bit.

First, I turned off all my auto save (you can do it in the setting section) And I noticed that I had less and less freezes. Granted you have to remember to save before you do anything anyways.

Second, obviously the Auto-save function is broken so I don't think the major rewrite of the code will be as necessary as much as fixing that problem, So I'm making a list of every bug I see and anytime the game crashes. I'm gonna be playing extensively and then plan to send in the list. If nothing else its better then simply waiting. And it makes me feel like I'm actually helping (probably not but its what I feel that counts right..... *sob*)

Edit: ACtually I've been playing for several hours now without a single hangup or freeze. Try turning off the auto save and see if you get the same results.

I had a bad feeling that this game was going to be full of bugs just like Fallout 3 and Fallout 3 GOTY. I hope they fix the bugs this time or this will be the last time I ever buy a game from Bethesda. I am afraid that restarting my PS3 a hundred times a day will destroy it and Im not sure its worth the risk. Bethesda svcks I cant believe they released another buggy POS.

It happens to me as well but it may be the loading between areas causing it.

If you turn off all the autosaves and instead just save often, it doesn't freeze nearly as much for me.

Hey guys

Try turning off your auto saves.
I had the same problem then I read a thread that said to disable your Internet and turn off the auto saves 7 hours in an no freezing so far.

scripting errors can cause a game to freeze

while that may be true, based on what happen with F3 GoTY, it maybe more than just scripting errors. i'm not a fluent programmer but if it were a scripting error, one would think that freezing would have been fixed in F3 GoTY. i do hope that i am wrong though.

Well I'm not the only one then, I started the game and the second I left the docs office I knew something was wrong, I felt like I was skipping over to the saloon. Every two or three seconds a pause. Okay I can deal with that, kinda, I shouldn't have to, but I will. First freeze is Primm when I made the robot the sheriff and everyone decides to leave at once. Reboot. When I was in the Bison casino/hotel and I found the armor case I picked up the metal armor went to equip it but accidentaly hit drop, Poof it disappears the merc outfit was next to the bathtub but the metal armor wasn't . It didn't just drop to the room below or fall in the bathtub, but gone. Okay I move on. I bypass everything and head towards Novac, Just as I enter the search light town I Freeze. Reboot.

Bugs so far:
Freezes
skips while walking or in a gun fight, you pull the trigger 3 times it shoots once even with V.A.T.S.
looses items lost a hat and the metal armor so far.
when being shot and hit by a female character, you make the sound of a female character being hit. (I have a male character or so I thought)

Not a bug but would be great to see, two new tabs, one for campfire, one for reloading, it's a pain going through the misc. tab trying to figure out what all you have to make a sandwich only to find out your chewing buckshot. :) it's not a bad idea trying to collect items to make other items, but why can't I break down a stick of dynamite to get the powder from it?) scrap metal = lead, dynamite = powder lead pipe = casings, tin can + powder = primer and then have the option to reuse casings and making a casing catcher for a gun attachment...just a thought. Oh and with all that food you left out one thing, How am I ever going to open a kabillion radaffle houses without the flour + water + egg = radaffles or radcakes with a side geckon and a diet nuka? Is that for here or to go?

Idem, my game freezes constantly (11x in 1 hour) since I've been in the city of Nipton. It's unplayable.

As I don't remember the freeze have been corrected in Fallout 3, I doubt they correct in New Vegas. I will sell this game and it will be the last from Bethesda.

Should they stop with video games is a massacre.

I got the game home. Unwrapped it. Put in in. 15 hours later, no freezing. I waited for the DLC classic pack to come online, entered my code, loaded up the game, played for an hour and a half, and I freeze up. I believe Bethesda does not know how to intergrate DLC very well. My FO:3 with no expansions could be played for hours on end without a freeze. Download one expansion and boom, freeze every 5 mins.

I'm going to remove my DLC and see if that fixes the problem. This svcks because I'm not sure I'll be able to keep my saves current. I'll try uninstalling everything and leaving the code at home.

Like I said, I went 15 hours, no prob without the Classic Pack installed. I believe its the extras and not the game itself. I dunno. Seems kind of odd that it only happened when I loaded the Pack. I had already finished the game and started a new one by the time the Pack came online. This is concerning me. Has Bethesda decided to start screwing everybody over? I played Morrowind, FO:3 with no probs. Only when they started releasing extras did everything go to hell. I'm thinking that I may pull all support for Bethesda games in the future.

Way to take an awesome series, make it more awesome, then flood the games with bugs, glitches, and freezes. I think I want my old top down Fallouts back. At least I didn't have to worry about freezes and still got all the post apocolyptic carnage I could want. Plus the games were co-op playable. I really miss that.

It's hard to believe that video gaming has come to this...

I played the PS1 and Sega systems for many years and might have had 2 or 3 freezes in all that time...

both my FO3 GOTY and now New Vegas crash like a drunk driver and it's absolutely insane..

I guess I just flushed my money down the toilet...

oh yeah, and I also got the PC retail version but have not installed it and won't after reading all the problems
everyone is having already even with 2 patches and it still has serious gamebreaking issues... when I read
that a patch has come out that makes the game playable... finally... I might install it then, but if that
does not happen I'm taking this svcker back and trading it in for something else...

This is giving me a b*tch of a headache..

I have an update as well. I've been trying hard to figure things out with the game. I'm not exactly sure what's going on. However, during the course of play (Pre-freezing for me) I've noticed some very odd things. Firstly, I was in tutorial, trying to run toward the saloon when I suddenly fell through the ground. I warped to the Doc's officer. Running around other places, I've fallen through the ground. This happens to me frequently. I'm always warped somewhere else.

Not so much a glitch, bug, or whatever, but has anyone noticed that guns break much much faster now? When I took Raul as my companion and got his preventative maintenence perk, it made my guns last almost as long as they did in Fallout 3. This svcks pretty hard considering I had 10k in caps and needed to repair my sniper rifle, my hunting revovler, and my riot shotgun and was left with only 780 caps or so. Not even for a full repair, but somewhere around half. With my Barter skill being 80. This is horrible. Things are way to expensive in this game and everything breaks after only a few shots. You get some relief with the more underpowered guns as they can be found everywhere. However, repairing my 50mg anti-material rifle to full for 4k caps is not cutting it. Not to mention Raul won't repair anything for me even when he's in his shack. I mean he tells me to take him to his shack and he'll repair my stuff and then he just keeps telling me that I'm [censored] and need to take him to his shack when we're standing in his living room/bedroom/bathroom/kitchen/workshop/whole freakin house.

I understand that Fable 3 was coming out this month and you needed to get your game to shelf faster than them so you can gain the advantage. However, at least Fable 3 will keep with its prior games and not be nearly as glitchy, unbalanced, freezy, and every other problem FO games have had lately. Why even bother taking a lesser known franchise like Fallout, mainstreaming it, and then making it so unbelievably frustrating to play and then add technical problems on top of that? You may have revolutionized games like Elder Scrolls and Fallout (BTW, good job taking failing franchises and making them your own. So much for having self made IPs), but you've also traded one problem for another. You made the gameplay more current at the cost of making it a mess technically speaking. This time the Xbox 360 isn't even spared. Which is horrible because I've never had an Xbox 360 that didn't freeze after some time without the game being the culprit. So they must be having twice the trouble us PS3 users have.

In the end, Bethesda has shamelessly taken advantage of their consumers. We hold out for the next incarnation of something only to have the problems get worse and quicker to arise. Like I said, I never had trouble with FO:3. At least not until I expanded the core game. Now it's that way straight out of the box. How can you justify this as something so much better when the problems are glaring you in the face? The least you could do is make amends and fix things. However, this problem has gone unchecked so far, and looks like its going to go unchecked like the GOTY edition did. Why screw ps3 owners? On top of that, why screw everybody else? If you don't learn how to fix these problems when they arise, perhaps you need to shut the doors on franchises that have had these constant problems. In the end, it'll come back to bite you.

I'm not buying the game at all until people say it's freeze free. (Btw people have the same complaint over the official PS3 forum.)

I'm not going through the FO3-frustration one more time.

Same here.. I can resist the urge of possessing this game after all the crap I've been through in FO3, especially GoTY and besides the glitches FO3 was a nice game imo but not the ultimate game that has ever excised. This time I'll have no other option than to purchase it for my PS3 cos my laptop will not be powerful enough, I guess. However I'll just bide my time and see what the community has to say - fool me once not twice - meanwhile I'm spending my 60 or 80 Euro's on other more useful things in life or perhaps I'll save it for a new computer. Also if I wait a while before I decide to buy FONV for the PS3 (which I hardly doubt cos I'm a mod addict plus the PS3 has always been treated like the stepchild of all platforms imo) a few months later the price will drop considerably, more patches will be released and more bugs will be discovered. Furthermore If FONV has the same '10MB+ save game = freeze bug' which is only discovered later on in the game then my decision will be quite easy. Whatever.. It is kind of funny btw that the first reports point out framerate and freezing issues. Oh well.. I kinda expected this to happen, lol.. it's a FO3 clone after all operating on the same engine and from what I'm reading it's even worse than FO3 Vanilla, Vanilla never froze on me in the beginning and by the time it started to show hiccups, I usually finished the game . Congratulations Bugthesda!

Good luck waiting for patches, if they work and not make it worse. :whistling:

I'm about 40 hours in, no freezing at all. The worse I get is stuttering while walking the wasteland. By stuttering, I mean the game will lock up for about a second or two and then keep going. This does seem to happen a lot though. Aside from that, only a few minor visual glitches.

Great game and runs a lot better then fo3 goty

Oh man am I pissed. I have been playing since it came out and it frooze on me so many times to count. I got a 80GB PS3 and have never had this problem with any other games really. Once in a blue moon on Fallout 3 but New Vegas that's another story. Anyway I love the story and love the game (tech issues aside) so I would restart my PS3 and start from the last save point over and over. Well last night I was at my breaking point. I was at the Dam and I can't take two damn steps into the mission without it freezing up on me. I think the "mysterious man" who comes and helps you out when you do a VATS has something to do with it. Everytime he comes out he kills somebody and I get the sound but it just freezes up on me. This happened 20 times before I gave up and did the unthinkable. I deleted all my Fallout New Vegas data (minus the DLC pre order stuff) and am waiting until a fix it out there. I will play it again once there is a fix but I got to say quality control at Bethesda is really lacking.

People who have this game constantly freezing must be doing something wrong, like wrapping their PS3 up in blankets to make sure it overheats or something. Now, I bought Fallout 3, not the Game of the Year edition, and had 0 problems with that beside the minor odd glitches like when you imprison Flak and Shrapnel's coding requires him to be near Flak during X times of the day so Shrapnel ends up just being stuck in the wasteland, running back and forth. I've only had New Vegas crash once on me, and I'm going to attribute it to the fact I was playing it for 6 straight hours and have the heater running in my house. Also, the game just came out 3 days ago, there are going to be bugs, bugs (major ones and most minor ones at least) will get fixed, but they can't fix everything within a day. By the end of the month it should be will done and fixed. That is if it isn't within the next few days.

Instead of attributing the fault on the people who have constant freezing, can you share what you seemed to have done right? I think that's more constructive. Like, did you turn off auto save? Did you wait for the game to fully install on the HDD before playing? Did you turn off your network connection? Things like that will help those who have freezing problem.

Fully installed, auto save is on, when I first played it (also this is when I had my 1 crash), my PS3 wasn't updated (haven't updated it since mid-August). After the crash I decided to update my PS3, and download the classic pack that I got for pre-ordering, I had one http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1125909-shooting-problems/ that happened after that, but, 7 hours after I fixed that, I've had 0 issues. One reason why I may have less problems is because I am using the 80GB 2nd generation PS3, probably the best PS3 generation as the first generation is starting to have issues and I've heard bad stuff about Slims. 3rd generation I haven't heard anything bad about either. Oh, and since I updated I'm online and logged into the PSN. Also have the collectors edition if there's a difference (was totally hoping the playing cards were actually playable with, but they have different backs!)

Thing is the GOTY-version of the game had tons of problems the standalone game didn't, I've played both versions. The DLC introduced numerous bugs and glitches (freezing, stuttering etc) and from what I can tell according to these boards, those errors made it into New Vegas. I know exactly what people are talking about without having played New Vegas.

Hopefully Obsidian will eliminate the bugs Bethesda shipped with the SDK.

I find it funny that most people find all these bugs and keep freezing i have only found 1 game freezing bug which is easily understandable in terms of game script.
its expectable to get bugs with such a huge world. im having a blast playing this game great work bethesda

Awesome! Thanks so much. The more info we have, the better we can help others.

I wonder if those experiencing game freezes wait until it is fully installed on the HDD before actually playing. That was one fix that helped a bit for F3 GoTY. It looks like it worked for you. Might be worth the try to delete the Game Data again and wait until it fully installs.
