Country music

That's not what he says... He is saying "So dog gone low, I have to look up to see the soles of my shoes."

I knew it wasn't his actualy words, but was saying what it sounded like to me. Thanks for clearing it up. That song still sounds horrible though. ;)

Country music aside, you're missing out on some top-notch talkshow radio on the Black Mountain station. I still haven't done the Black Mountain quest, because I'm afraid it might spoil the talkshow.

Well... I loved OLD country before New Vegas and I still do. New country is the thing that should be ridiculed.
These are the best country artists ever IMO

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgI5DMVegIk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnrKRaX_egg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8ltHP98lNg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxB42cjHTGg

And many more but these are my initial favorites. Jim Reeves and Tex Ritter etc are really good too.

I agree with this post, I've always loved Johnny Cash, I still hate modern country. I had never listened to Marty Robbins before the game though, and now I do, 'Big Iron' is on my MP3 player now.

The Man in Black is just a nickname Johnny Cash picked up but no there isn't any of his tunes in there, I would guess there aren't any that are out there for free :sadvaultboy: .....but I'm still not tired of the spirs song. For the PC user's out there look here-----> http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/cat.php?id=88

It's not just a nickname he picked up, it's actually one of the protest songs he wrote.

Hmmm, can't really answer the poll correctly. Country music as it is today, isn't all that great in my book. The Country/Western music in FNV is good. I stopped liking Country music by the 80s as it really became a form of pop music. FNV is using the classic stuff and that makes a difference. I couldn't tell a Toby Keith song from a Kenny Chesney, but I can spot a Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins or Gene Autry song a mile away. Today's rockin' country songs are just so generic and lame to me that it isn't even in the same category as the FNV stuff.

I love country because I love story songs and I was also in FFA. I can't stand the music kids listen to. Very dumb downed.

I liked country and western before, and I still like it. Funny thing was, my aunt was in another room while I was playing, and she shouted "Who's playing Marty Robbins songs?".

Apparently my Grandad had a load of tapes of his, so she knew Big Iron off by heart. :P

I hated country prior to playing New Vegas and I still do, but I hate many types of music. What does Sinatra count as? I like his type of music, but I dislike almost all other genres... of American music, anyway.

since so many young people tend to dislike it and ridicule it.

I don't consider any of the songs in New Vegas country music, because unlike country music, they are actually good.

The key here is that the country music from the '40s to the '70s is a bit different than the "pop/rock that happens to be produced in Nashville" that they've been releasing since the '80s.

I've enjoyed the music in both games, because when I was young, my parents listened to NY/NJ radio stations that played Big Band and classic Country stuff. So the music in the Fallout games has felt a bit familiar. :)

-----------
I'm reminded of the one scene in the Blues Brothers....

Elwood: What kind of music do you usually have here?
Claire: Oh, we got both kinds. We got country *and* western. :celebration:

That type of music would be Big Band or Swing. Or maybe "Lounge". More so the first.

I'm not sure what to vote for lol. I think country music is alright, I wouldn't say that I dislike it (I know what constitutes dislike thanks to rap and RnB). But it's not something I'd choose to listen to either.

I wouldn't listen to the music for the sake of the music, but I DO listen to the music in game. Because while it is defenitely not my favourite, I don't dislike it, and it suits the western feel to the game.

I always thought I hated country music. If I ever hear it I make this "ugh" sound and quickly get rid of it. I'll admit I don't know anything about country music. Maybe the kind I've heard just happened to always be the bad stuff.

In this game however, I have no problem with it. In fact I like it. Kinda blew my mind actually. I think partly it's just that it fits the theme so well. Besides it just doesn't sound like the garbage I'm usually exposed to when it comes to 'country' music.

You would be surprised by the growth of underground and alternative country with younger people. Right now the problem with country on the radio station, its just basicly pop and balleds. And not very good.

Im glad to hear it.

Now go listen to 500 Miles to Memphis.

Yup, IMHO "Th' Legendary Shack Shakers" are another example.

It's a dream come true, a thread that isn't bashing country Music :D

F:NV didn't change my opinion about it at all

I've loved country music since I was about 14 (granted i'm not even 20 yet :P) used to listen to oldish music before then anyway I know people will probably disagree here but I love country music right up to the 90's. There is only one Country singer I lke from the 2000's and that is Brad Paisley, all the rest are utter crap really just pushing out the same thing over and over a lot like pop/RnB/Rap, this is really Nashville's fault. Then came the darkest day for country Music Taylor Swift was discovered, but that's a different story. :P

Old country is where the genre shines, hell I could write an essay on why I love it so much. But i'll just state my favourite artists. (just a few :P)

Hank Williams senior
Merle Haggard
George Jones
Johnny Horton
Johnny Cash
Hank Thompson
Buck Owens
Johnny Paycheck
Willie Nelson
Waylon Jennings
Conway Twitty
Carl smith
Ernest Tubb
Tammy Wynette

and some more 'modern' artists I enjoy
Alan Jackson
George Strait
Brooks & Dunn
Brad Paisley
Dwight Yoakam
Travis Tritt
Randy Travis
Garth Brooks
Lee Kernaghan (an Australian)
Toby Keith (not many will agree with me here :P)

I think it might be amusing to hear if FNV has affected your view of country music, since so many young people tend to dislike it and ridicule it. I think country is a very acquired taste, that's developed over time when you're subjected to it regularly (as is the case with many things, besides taxes).

Hasn't changed my opinion a bit. My taste was developed over time indeed...as a rabid closed-minded father spent most of my childhood ranting about how Country was the only real music in existence. If you've ever heard the old joke "We play both kinds of music here- Country and Western!"- that was my late father personified.

At 43 I'm not so young, but I ridicule what passes for country these days- as most of what passes for country today would have been relegated to the same channels as Black Sabbath if it were transported back to the early 1970s.

That said, I also immediately began singing along from memory the first time I heard Big Iron. Of course that's classic Marty Robbins, and not the mild-to-medium rock that tries to pass itself off as country these days.

I'd rather listen to country than rap. My favorite genre is Progressive and Industrial Metal, though.

I like some country and grown used to the New Vegas soundtrack.
