Country music

Post » Fri Feb 11, 2011 8:09 pm

Fallout 3 introduced many young people to old classics; mostly in jazz and blues. Now, Fallout New Vegas is introducing them to country music. I think it might be amusing to hear if FNV has affected your view of country music, since so many young people tend to dislike it and ridicule it. I think country is a very acquired taste, that's developed over time when you're subjected to it regularly (as is the case with many things, besides taxes). While I prefer the type of music played in F3, I listen to quite a bit to country as well, and especially like much of Johnny Cash's music.

I like country music already and I liked that the radio had them, however with such a small playlist I don't ever listen to it on my PipBoy, instead when I come across places with radios it is nice to listen 'n' loot.

You would be surprised by the growth of underground and alternative country with younger people. Right now the problem with country on the radio station, its just basicly pop and balleds. And not very good.

Im glad to hear it.

Now go listen to 500 Miles to Memphis.

The Man in Black is just a nickname Johnny Cash picked up but no there isn't any of his tunes in there, I would guess there aren't any that are out there for free :sadvaultboy: .....but I'm still not tired of the spirs song. For the PC user's out there look here-----> http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/cat.php?id=88

I'm a huge country fan even though I come from the big city. I like the older stuff mostly. Maybe that's because I'm pretty old myself. Western swing music goes well with NV.

It is certainly a shame they couldn't put any Cash into the playlist. It would have went perfectly. That and maybe some Patsy Cline.

If people are looking for the "country" music that is included in NV they should also look in the "western" section (if there is one).

The Ballad of the Alamo, Ghost Riders in the Sky, etc. were all songs I listened to growing up because my Dad liked western music.

I also spent time in Texas and Oklahoma, which helps. To further the stereotype I'm having chili for lunch.

Uh, anyway, the game did make me look through a bunch of my Dad's old records to see what he had. Sure enough I've got an entire record full of western songs just itching to get imported into my personal play list.

I enjoyed country music before FNV, and still do.

I like the Big Iron song the most. B)

I'm one who is DEFINITELY NOT a fan of Country music.

That being said, there ARE quite a few Country songs that I enjoy.

Considering the overall theme of 'old stuff in the future' as it were. It's really too bad that they don't have the music to fit. Kenny Rogers, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, etc.
And am I the only one who thinks it's almost criminal to not have 'The Gambler' considering it's New VEGAS (even if they don't do poker)?

I don't consider any of the songs in New Vegas country music, because unlike country music, they are actually good.

Spoiler
I once heard a 60's country 'rap' song (in the sense that it was all rhymes), about a man parked in his truck waiting for his wife to come out of the store, and when she does there is a man with her. Both of them get into his truck and the song spans his internal thoughts during the drive home. When they get there he finally bursts and confronts his wife about this friend of hers, and she replied back that she thought he was a friend of his.

Occasionally I find a few country tunes that I like (like that one mentioned above). I will usually appreciate any music that sounds like the result of craft; genre never really seems to matter.

So I guess the topical answer is 'no', but I was not adverse to it to begin with ~though I don't own any country albums (or singles come to think of it).

Well... I loved OLD country before New Vegas and I still do. New country is the thing that should be ridiculed.
These are the best country artists ever IMO

And many more but these are my initial favorites. Jim Reeves and Tex Ritter etc are really good too.

Including http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXcOv2FIxe8? Some of the sounds he's making are just a bit too "rednecky" for me. At one point he sings something like "I'm dam so doggon-lo, hepna-guuk to see the saws." :bonk:

Much like any genre of music, there is a difference between 'country' and 'good country'

FNV contains the latter. Good music is good music, no matter the genre.

That's not what he says... He is saying "So dog gone low, I have to look up to see the soles of my shoes."
