I see your point. If i understand you correctly you are refering to people just creating a bunch of stuff uploading it without testing it. Well if the system works well it should just be a case of click on a button on steam and the mod will be uninstalled ( If the installer know the directory structure ofcourse). I really hope it makes some sort of note on what files goes where etc.

I'm not sure how much experience you have with mods. Mod conflicts happen no matter how well written and well tested mods are, and the steps needed to resolve conflicts are usually too complicated to automate.

Yeah - they talk fast on that vid! it is more of an advert than anything else though.

As for launch date of CK; I have seen what rushed launches of game updates, expansions and 'creation kits' ends in. I'd rather Beth launched a late but fully working CK than a rushed, broken and unusable one.

Though I am not much of an artist and my programming skills are somewhat outdated / rusty, I am looking forward to the CK with a view to making some basic 'dungeons' - mainly for my own use as I will probably not be able to make anything good enough to upload to steam or the nexus.

From the Mod's Forum:

Yes, it's almost ready. Folks are asking for the exact release date and I don't have it. As soon as everything is finalized and ready, we'll release it. That could be tomorrow, that could be next week.

Since Steam is installing mods, is it going to take the place of programs such as BOSS and Wrye Bash? Can Steam manage mod conflicts?

It`s not negative, just catious wisdom. Because it`s wise to know exactly what`s possible and not get people who don`t know rushing into something blindly and destroying their 50+ hours game. It should be explained in the vid that people will still need to sort their mods first by reading the README before downloading. I can see it now, new users d\ling everything and then posting up when they have totally ruined their game. It will happen.

..you don't think the people who made both the game, the creation kit, and the workshop ever considered this? For all we know, the whole thing could be automated wonderfully. We'll just have to wait and see.

Yes, it could be that the auto thing will work...but that is a BIG hope. When you are running a lot of mods (and among them big Overhauls) there is bound to be conflict.
It really doesn't feel right this auto-update feature. I have a brain, I know how to use it, stop thinking for me!
When a Mod makes an update it updates the Readme too, and they say if there is a new conflict, so you can opt not to choose the update or wait for a compatibility patch. But if that update is installed automatically...well it could seriously mess your game.
I just hope there will be a way to opt not to have the auto-update, or at least a way to revert to a previous version.

Why do you always sound so negative ?

Its not really steams job to make sure your mod dont conflict with another mod. Im sure if mod creators test their work beforehand things would go great.
Now dont get me wrong im not saying there wont be flaws in the system but with all things it can and will be improved as time goes by.

Am gonna be interested how all this sorts out. Some people just think you just click a button download a mod and all is dandy. This pct of players will love the Steam workshop... Will be interesting how this works with mods that require script extenders, proper load order etc. could end up really borking their game save, we shall see in the coming days months by the # of rage posts

I'm concerned with how this Steam integration will work as well, but at the same time, modders can still just upload to Nexus too right? I hated the sound of new versions of mods "automatically" being downloaded and updated. Seriously? Do they not remember their first patch? Same things happen with mods and most modders arent professionals, so I'll definitely be sure to turn off any automatic features.

I'm really looking forward to the CK personally so I wont be downloading tons of mods right off the bat so I'll see how things pan out.

Yes. And Steam won't allow "advlt content" mods so Nexus will always remain active. The community is strong on the Nexus, especially the modding community...Nexus has nothing to worry about, am sure it will remain active as ever, perhaps even more so.

Players also seem to overlook the fact Nexus is not just about Skyrim. Dragon Age series, earlier Beth titles, Witcher series mods are all found on the Nexus.

These tools are still required to make the mods work together.

It actually DOES feel that it's pretty close. But I'm not going to throw out dates, or estimates.

From what I gather from what the person is saying, the installing of mods via Steamworks is going to be seamless, meaning it just dumps it in wherever you have Skyrim at. Conflicts and rearranging, you know that is still going to be a necessary evil no matter what.

It's pretty seamless via Nexus as well....

Can't wait for this to go live!

Get hyped

We still have a whole year to, "Get hyped". They said, 'Beginning in January". They missed January 2012, so it won't release until January 2013, we still have a ways to go! Why is everyone so excited?

It's not about luck, it's just the PC platform is for modding and that goes for a lot of games. An editor is only one thing for making mods, a lot of people use Adobe Photoshop for doing textures and 3D apps like 3D Studio Max for models, which require a lot of resources that a console could never do.

Absolutely agree. There`s a great tidal wave of unhappy people coming who think they can install 50 mods and nothing will go wrong.

There is no program on Earth that can sort out and fix every Mod compatibity without Human work. Steam is not god people, get with reality. Steam justs makes it easier for some people who want everything in Steam. Most of my mods will come from the Nexus as that`s where the real good stuff will be.
