Cross Platform Play?

Post » Thu May 26, 2011 11:57 pm

You think Bethesda could be the first publisher to successfully pull off cross platform? Is it even possible?

Why would that make any scene at all like is trying to start a fire under water in the water, it will never happen
-M$ and Sony are not the best of friends
-The idea of a central sever makes no scene the code is so so different
-Why would they want to?
-they number of severs would have to be huge
-If you have PC gamers and plat former together it is not going to work plat former would lose so bad
-........WHY would you even think that........????????

Why.........

That would be a great challenge to pull off but I'm pretty sure there are more than just technical boundaries to bypass. I suppose Games for Windows Live and Xbox Live could somehow collaborate together since they're both Microsoft technologies ... but getting along with Sony's online service might be more of a problem than what it's worth. But you'd never know though.

yeah good points, it would be hard and the benefits are not that impressive other than just haveing a big community.

I've always wanted to school my 360 friends while on my mouse and keyboard.

360/PC cross platform has been done on a few games and considering that this game will be a 'games for windows' title then it's definitely a possibility.

I really don't know. I think 360 and PC could be possible but I doubt they could link PC and PS3 unfortunately :(

No because it would be a nightmare, Console players would complain about the PC's control setup advantages i.e the mouse and keyboard etc. I can see it now "Nerf the mouse sensitivty!" "Nerf PC aiming its so unfair!"

Lock the console its unfair how PC players can customise their configs!!!!

Thing is if it did happen PC gamers would literally destroy any console player because the anologue sticks are just terrible for FPS in comparison with the M+K combo, its either move or shoot not both.

don't see this a rant vs consoles though, Consoles have their uses such as fighting games etc but they just don't handle FPS games as well.

#6 was right guys. This has been done before. Shadowrun to name one for 360 + PC. Though why, that's a different story.

Sorry mate, it is fact. In that Shadowrun game mentioned they had to give auto-aim to consoles only and penalise the PC players accuracy every time they turned faster than a controller player would be able to.

Console FPS and PC FPS are kept different and separate for a reason.

Tell those lazy console gamers to go buy a mouse/keyboard combo for their system. =) But yes, Shadowrun was purposefully slanted (beyond just auto-aim, the gameplay was set in such a way as to keep aim from being too important) by Microsoft to even the playing field between PC and 360, feel free to read up on it. That said, the merge worked in the eyes of most and it wasn't typically possible to tell whether a user had a controller or a keyboard/mouse.

There is no need for me to repeat everyone.

Just short NO, because of code and players problems.

If you can devise a test to investigate your claim that the mouse is not superior to the controller I'd be happy to participate.

Let me fix it for you then:

All input devices which are more precise are inherently more capable at precision based gameplay.
Controllers current design had to be bolstered in order to match mouse precision.
Mice are inherently more capable at precision based gameplay.

There, now it's a syllogism, happy? =) The facts are simple, the mouse is more quick and precise. Does that mean that in each situation it will be better? No, of course not, for someone to assume that is ignorant. So, I'm not disagreeing with you completely. I also believe it's opinion that one is simply better than the other. Yet the fact remains that the mouse is more capable of high-speed precision than the current implementations of controllers. Of course, the controller is certainly better at other things, which is why I personally have a 360 controller on my PC.

i personally could whoop a pc gamer on my xbox at anything but sniping im not talking about all pc gamers but i could definetly compete although i think they should stay seperate because if the pc gets involved hackers would prolly ruin the game

Did you know that many PC games support Xbox controllers out of the box with the same setup as the xbox game if it was also released there?

Of course, none of you people who wrongly think you could compete will ever try to prove it.

I don't believe a Beginning publisher should try to pull something like that off. I Love Bethesda However they have more room to grow in the multilayer experience.
