Crysis 1 for Consoles is Official!

Post » Sun Sep 11, 2011 7:18 pm

Official Announcement: http://crytek.com/news/crytek-and-ea-bring-crysis-to-consoles (the site can be a bit slow at times)

Trailer: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/exclusive-debut-crysis/720428 (+ gameplay)
Crysis 1 for consoles is expected to release October 2011 (fairly soon)

Im surprised how much it looks like the original game, despite some differences.

The differences seem to be (so far):

+ Less Foliage
+ More Colour Grading
+ More fog
+ More HDR

I'm not really much of a fan of shooters, so I honestly don't care all too much and may only get this game after it gets cheaper and if it is actually quite good. So here's my question. Has it sold so many PC copies because it is actually a good game, only because of the shiny graphics, or both?

edit: Wait, is it really selling brand new for $20?

Well there are destructible environments in the game too. Destroying a whole shack was cool. Still, I got bored of it fast.

Well it's not really new as it's a CryEngine 3 remake of the original game from 2007.

Too bad they won't put the CryEngine 3 remake up for purchase on PC :(

I mean new as in the console versions being new. It's EA... and I thought they would sell it for $60 as though it were just a plainly brand new game. I never expected any EA game to launch on any platform for less than $60... regardless of how old it really is.

My first thought was, "how?" but then I saw they remade it in CryEngine 3. That explains it. :P No way you could've gotten the original code on to the 360 or PS3...memory leaks and unoptimized code out the wazoo.

Pretty cool that they're selling it for $20, too. It's a good game and well worth the price. :) Hopefully Warhead eventually meanders its way over as well.

Its being remastered for the consoles and its the single player portion only.... It'll be available for download for 19.99 or 1600 ms points.

It's better than the second game in basicly every way, at least. Just hope they include the 'full' suit functionality from the original.

It's annoying you can't buy exact amounts of Microsoft Points, you always have to buy pre-defined amounts and you always end up buying more than you need.

It's a good graphics benchmark but a pretty mediocre game, IMO.

Why would they remove the map marker? Crysis 2 had a mini-map with a map marker; it's not as if Crytek's sworn off the idea.

No, map maker or map editor or whatever you want to call it. To create maps to play on from scratch using an array of pre-defined parts. Crysis 2 didn't have one... [censored] you, Crytek!

Yes Crysis 2 has a map editor - get it here: http://www.crydev.net/dm_eds/download_detail.php?id=3

That's the only bad part I have seen though. The rest looks fairly solid.

Yikes. Crysis 2 on Xbox 360 has more foliage than that and it's set in New York.

The game looks a bit more impressive than I was expecting it to. Especially when you consider that it is a twenty-dollar download. There are some spots that look a bit weak, though as the above pics show, there are some that look pretty good. I am just happy to play it. I don't mind that is isn't the best version of the game. I liked Crysis 2 enough that the price of this sounds really good to me.

What? Are you trying to give me the impression you don't like the thought of buying a new Call of Duty game every year? :P

LOL, pretty much. then again, I've been shooter-ed out for the last half a decade. Unless it actually has strategy and a learning curve, something most shooters lack.
