Dagger questions (possible spoilers)

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 11:50 am

Does anyone know if power attacks with daggers can stun/stagger an opponent? I have some pretty beefy deadric daggers but don't seem to be able to stun with power attacks.

If they can but have a low chance, is this something that can be remedied with Paarthurnax's "Force Without Effort?"

...Okay, how are you using the daggers again? You should be going for a stealth build with daggers, and going for the backstab bonus...

To my knowledge, Daggers can only stagger if a backstabs doesn't kill an enemy. So unless you're backstabbing, it won't stagger them.

This is OT but we need throwing knives.

Cool, thanks LimeSheep. I guess I'll just stick with a quick Unrelenting Force to make openings.

Throwing knives could be cool. Especially with my build. If you could activate them with the power button and it could provide stun or interrupt an enemies power attack.

...Are you suggesting you shoot knives from your mouth? What are you throwing them from, if not one of your two hands?

Also, if I have to spell it out for you, you're a lost cause. You shouldn't be Fus Ro Dah-ing unless you're in serious trouble and need to get the hell out as a stealth build. Maybe a warrior build is better for you? Try picking up a war axe or greatsword or something.

Daggers can stun under certain circumstances, but not nearly as much as weapons like swords, axes, and especially the 2 handed weapons.

Luck, do you know if the stun/stagger is based on the damage dealt or is it random? I know with basically everything, except daggers, power attacks stun/stagger most of the time. This leads me to believe that if daggers can stun, it is either random or damage based.

I'll have to test with "Force Without Effort," I'm just not at the part of the story with my current character.

I believe it is a random hit. A certain percentage. Say that a dagger stuns 2% of the time, a sword might stun 30% of the time (those are not the actual percentages, i don't know what the actual percentage is). It is also affected by the enemies armor and blocking rating. Also if they are a boss, or easy monster.

The stuff about Paarthurnax. Didn't want someone who didn't know about him to research it, not realizing what it was, and spoil anything for themselves.

Daggers are for more than stealth.

There's a good reason why you don't have to necessarily be in sneak mode to use a dagger.

In this here thing called a role playing game, people are allowed to play a role as part of a game. In this here "open world" role playing game, people are allowed to decide what that role is. So if your role happened to be of a thief-turned murderer with a fondness for daggers, well now... you'd use a dagger, and you may or may not be sneaky about the matter.

Ever tried Mehrunes Razor + Dagger + Elemental Fury? It's pretty incredible stuff, and there's no need to be sneaky about it.

Can I use Elemental Fury with Mehrunes Razor? If so that would be incredible.

I always thought Valdr's Lucky Dagger and Mehrunes Razor, with Elemental Fury, would make a nice combo but I never bothered to try because I thought Elemental Fury didn't work with enchanted weapons.

I just read this on the Wiki:

"Valdr's Lucky Dagger grants a 25% chance of a critical hit with each strike. The weapon cannot be disenchanted since its unique ability is an inherent to the dagger itself, rather that an applied enchantment. This means it does not require recharging with http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Soul_Gem_%28Skyrim%29 and is affected by the http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Dragon_Shout, http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Elemental_Fury."

http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Valdr%27s_Lucky_Dagger

I'm assuming Mehrunes Razor is the same as Valdr's Lucky Dagger.

Daggers are not just for stealth. I hate to tell some of you, but there are people that play outside of the cookie-cutter builds.

DW daggers can be absolutely deadly with the right set up. Just enchanting one with paralyze and it will keep am enemy on the ground. DW and the EF shout will turn a dagger wielding player into a blurr of blades not unlike a blender.

However...the EF shout will not work with enchanted weapons, But with the shout and upgraded Daedric daggers, your DPS is so high it doesn't matter.

So, OP...play your Dagger Warrior and kudos for playing out of the box. :goodjob:

Hrm... I can't say whether or not what the wikia says is true about Valdr's, but I will tell you that the wikia is wrong about... alot of things. The UESP is typically better for all intents and purposes, although if you're looking up specific items, the wikia gets the nod for having them all separated whereas the UESP condenses many weapons together.

With that said, AFAIK, the only way Mehrune's Razor works with Elemental Fury is if you equip a non-enchanted weapon in the left hand. So if you had Mehrunes Razor in your left hand (which is the hand parsed to determine whether or not Elemental Fury will work) then it wouldn't work. So IF what the wikia says is true about Valdr's, you could run Valdr's lefty and Mehrune's righty and it would work.

And let me tell ya... it's hella fun.

Those are good points.

When performing a dual wield power attack with both hands simultaneously, the game only checks if Elemental Fury is active on the left hand. By equipping an enchanted item on your right hand and an unenchanted item on your left hand, you can somewhat bypass Elemental Fury's restriction on use with enchanted weapons.

I would trust the UESP over that wiki.

No, I'm pointing out that Fus Ro Dah is a bad option for what you wanted to do. Try the Throw Voice shout instead - it works great as a distraction.

Nice! Thanks for the responses everyone. I'm currently getting my things together to try this combo out. I'll let you all know what I find.

Role, Throw voice is not a good option for stun/stagger. When did I ever say I was playing a stealth character? I'm a lost cause?

Maybe he wants to play a tanked out dagger user? why are you trying to seem that if he doesn't play stealth, he has to use another weapon?

Not everyone wants to play as a specific " build " and everyone is going to have their own ways of doing things... Let him be.

Eh, just seems like a waste, you know? 15x damage really looks juicy...

Of course, he could just be talking about the "just in case", when he's caught flat-footed...
