Dawngaurd: start over or max out?

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 7:40 pm

Don't start over mate, so not worth it.

I'm one of those people, ok I've reached the level cap and passed a decent amount of the quests, enough to realize that I'm over-powered and I wish the enemies used more battle formation tactics and espionage skills etc, but anyway, I've played at least 'till level 20 of every race, most times doing a lot of the main quest-line again, just to see how they all play, which is 'optimal' for me etc, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else, it does start to get a little mundane.

Personally, on an un-related note, I find being a Bosmer rouge is pretty good in any situation. I mean, that double-enchanted/poisoned 200+damage Daedric bow is good in mallee combat anyway so... I don't think you've got anything to worry about challenge-wise... it'll be a breeze.

Depends. Are you a Lycanthrope? If so, prepare for the Perk Tree.

I have a character who is a Werewolf so he wouldn't be able to get infected with the vampire curse but my other character isn't so I'm gonna make him a vampire and put my first character in with the Dawnguard.

I'll be going in maxed out. I have my level 44 warrior werewolf, with maxed out two handed, heavy armor, smithing, and enchanting. I also have on hold, my level 42 mage, with maxed Illusion and conjuration, as well as nearly maxed destruction and enchanting. More than likely, I might go in with my mage even though she's got next to no health....besides, I'm beginning to feel the itch of a creating new character

Depends if Dawnguard will add new perk trees for Lycanthrope, Crossbows, Acrobatic. Which is doubtful.

Well, I'm maxing as those new monsters and enemies look pretty tough! I doubt they will add new perks/trees so there is no real need to start over.

It depends. Are you 1-3 shotting everything in the game, including Ancient Dragons? If so, I'd say start a new character because that's extremely boring and will svck all the fun out of the expansion.

Personally, I'm going to delete all my saves, clear cache, install the game, install DLC, and do a fresh patch once 1.6 and the DLC roll out. Then I will create a sword and board that uses no trade skills, and never fast travels or exploits stuff. Should be a very challenging and fun character to take through the new DLC.

Doh!
My main character on PS3 has to be a vampire (whatever they are in the expansion)
And my character on the PC when I get it has to be a lycan, with the dawngaurd, goody-etc :)

Make a new character and become a Vampire Hunter BEFORE the DLC comes out.

I changed my murderous, theiving Khajiit into a Vampire Hunter. He hunts vampires using the skills that the Theives Guild, and the Dark Brotherhood taught him.

Didn't know you could join the vigilantes of Standarr?

You can't. He is a private contracter, he protects towns from vampires. The Vigilants mainly hunt the deadra anyways. There not true vampire hunters... thats why i cant wait for DAWNGUARD then i will have Crossbows, epic armour to hunt in, and a group of hunters to back me.

I roleplay that he has not been invited by the Dawnguard, because he has yet to make a name for himself. So now he is hunting vampires working on making a name for himself. They are quite the difficult group to join :)

I'm debating the same thing, but it may suit my current build: an disgustingly evil mage whom I've been debating making a vampire.

Mm. I just don't want to miss out on any interesting gameplay by not playing through the expansion missions as both lycan and vampris.

Im going to continue with the character i made 2 days ago. He's only level 5.
I figured i wanted to start fresh, but waste no time with tedious leveling.
So in the time before Dawnguard, i'll go on some adventures and get some levels, then around level 10 i'll stop until Dawnguard realeases.
Then i wont be overpowered, yet fairly prepared.

That's as good a plan as any.

Just like FO3 and NV, ill be rerolling with every DLC and possibly every major patch that adds something new to the game, because for me i crave the leveling experience. Even more so in skyrim with there being hardly any fair challenge after level 25.

In morrowind both DLCs were pretty tough, but could be beaten at lv 25-30

Once you got past 35 the enemies (even werewolves) got to be pretty easy.

I very carefully roleplay my main character, and he is only lv 35 (with skyrims scaling, that is equal to about a lv 20 morrowind character). I havent maxed out anything, but am pretty high in my main skills. I expect I am probably right at the preferred level for the DLC. Enemies will be challenging, but won't slaughter me.

From experience with previous bethesda DLC, do not over level a character. How fun will the DLC be if you can one-shot vampire lords from the start :/

I say look at one of those vampire lords, get your character to the point where you would guess that in a fight with one you would have a really tough time, but still win.

In the end I would say as long as your character is higher than 15 but less than 40 you should be fine.

Start over.

When you're maxed out you can be a bit too powerful, making the game too easy. (at least from my experience)

Obviously gonna be a new one since we could sell it. The Elder Scroll in the trailer is gold anyway. The other one was white.
Yes its definitely another scroll of course there is a lot more than one I am just curious to see what this scroll is about.

You know. I hadn't noticed. I'm going to have to pay closer attention to this trailer 2nd-time round (now), shame letting something like that slip me. I thought I was going to have to go back to the college at night and steal the elder scroll back.

They're saying it's not for low-leveled players. You'll probably get more out of it having some core skills already built up.
