Dawnguard vs shivering isles

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 7:29 am

I thin that is correct.
The SI: 30 hours(or so) and 2400MSP
Dawnguard: 20 hours(or so) and 1600MSP(IIRC)

Seems fair to me.

The price for Shivering Isles dropped down many times. It was originally 3200 points ($40)

Nothing will be as good as SI but believe me when I say you will like DG and all the nifty things it brings to the table. But I have already said too much.

Shouldn't we wait until the DLC is actually out before we start comparing...?

Yes, Dawnguard is about 10-20 hours (I played it). I'm hoping that they will have another 20$ DLC in a few months, September? And then their final DLC will be comparable in scope to that of Shivering Isles, and hopefully that will come out sometime in early 2013. I'm hoping the next (possible) two DLCs will take us to Hircine's Hunting Grounds, the Daedric Realm, and extend the Main Quest and/or Civil War, having the Dragonborn help destroy the Thalmor.
I agree, but I think there should be an option to side with the Thalmor.

shivering isles was better, just looking at trailers.
anyone a beta tester to confirm??
Well, if they're a beta tester that's exactly what they can't do.

Not sure how I'd compare Dawnguard to any of the past DLC's/expansions without having played it. I will say that both Shivering Isles and Tribunal were more accessible to people who aren't into the whole vampire/vampire hunter theme as just about any kind of character could play through them and roleplay the way they like. Bloodmoon kinda forced you to either be a werewolf or a werewolf hunter but that wasn't the only questline.

Shivering Isles was more than 30 hours worth of gameplay, in my opinion.

Dawnguard isn't even released yet...

It's physically impossible to compare unless you are a beta tester.

Wellshiv Isles was kind of repetitive after a while to make all those retrieve this or that missions .... What I enjoyed was the new landscape and stuff but the quests apart the beginning. Where quite plain ....

Bloodmoon quest instead was best...

I am in the same situation.

(Some minor Shivering Isles spoilers below)

Prometheus, I just finished playing through the SI main quest again. Yes, at their core, most of the later quests were fetch quests. But I didn't find them repetitive - there seemed to be a slight twist to each successive one. Things got even more strange and weird as you completed the tasks for Sheogorath. This time, instead of rushing through the quests I took the time to explore. There was a lot more story there than I remembered from the first time I played through the expansion.

You had to help either the Golden Saints or Dark Seducers take command over a holy place (choosing sides in general in the SI had major consquences at times), you had to placate a nasty Mages Guild reject if you wanted her assistance (you could also have a little fun "helping" with her research subjects), you could drive hapless adventurers insane, you witnessed the genocide of a noble race and attempted to bring them back to life - just a few examples of what was required of the player during these 'fetch quests'.

Not to mention, if you take the time to summon Haskill after each minor stage of a quest, you can hear some of the most infuriating and funny lines in the SI.

That said, I agree with you the Bloodmoon was an amazing expansion. (I still play that every once in awhile, with lots of mods for added fun.)

I cannot comment on this since I have actually played "The Shivering Isles" and am therefore not in a position to give an opinion on something I really know very little about as I am with the "Dawnguard DLC".

Exactly! Its stupid to ask us to compare something that hasn`t been released yet :wallbash: you can`t form a solid idea based on a 1 minute 44 second trailer that has been very carefully pieced together.Dawnguard will expand your gaming experience in many ways,to me that is more important than how many more hours it takes to complete.Wouldn`t you rather have more perk trees etc than more hours?

Shivering isles was one of the best dlc's ive ever played in a game or should is say expansions and i believe dawnguard will be just as awesome maybe little shorter ammount of content is all. Both you venture into an oblivon realm so thats a double thumbs up for both i think! :bunny:

I'm sure DG will be fine and well worth $20.

I am not real thrilled about it myself however. To be honest over the last few years we all have just been flooded with Vampire and Werewolf movies and books, way past the point of overkill. And now my favorite games first DLC is about ... vampires. About makes me want to throw up. I just wish it could have been about Daedra, or Daedric princes, or the factions that were so underdeveloped in the game. Anything but more vampire stuff.

Shivering isles was only good because of Scottish Sheogorath and had a few good quests, but other then that the only thing it added to Oblivion was a less generic area of the game which it needed more. Personally I'd say dawnguard might be better but we can't really say that yet.
And it had GRUMMITE! The greatest reptilian race of TES. Shivering Isles is awesome one. I doubt if the Dawnguard can be even half of it. For me Dawnguard seems to be a good expansion but I just fear that they may use too much time for vampires which may affect negatively to other things in the DLC. I'm curious about crossbows, ice giants and Dawnguard faction but vampires are only creatures I'll kill when needed.
