"Dawnguard" - The First Skyrim DLC?

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 3:00 am

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/340862/is-dawnguard-the-first-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-dlc/

"Bethesda parent company ZeniMax Media has filed a trademark for Dawnguard, sparking speculation that it could be the name of an upcoming DLC expansion for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

While the trademark is for "computer game software for use with computers and video game consoles; downloadable computer game software offered via the internet and wireless devices," it could of course be for another title, but that just wouldn't be as fun, would it?

This is actually kind of old news. The article looks to be fairly new, but there was a thread discussing Dawnguard a few weeks ago.

Went digging to see when the thread was created (which is http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1352213-new-skyrim-dlc-is-probably-called-dawnguard/page__hl__dawnguard, by the way) and it turns out it was more like a month ago.

That's a pretty nice name for an expansion. Big, fat expansion.

Yeah, old news to me (I made the first thread about dawnguard, like, one and a half month ago ). Still, while I am SURE that dawnguard represents *something* coming out from Bethesda/Zenimax in the near future, I cannot actually say with 100% certainty that it will be Skyrim DLC. The only clue we have now is a name. We have absolutely no idea what it will contain. The only way this is connected to Skyrim is the way the name sounds something very "Elder scrolls-like" and there are numerous references to 'dawn' in skyrim. Also, the lettering on the trademark page is similar to the one used in Skyrim. That's about it.

Note this this method was also how some people discovered the 'Skyrim' name 6 months before the official statement.

OK, since the thread warrants it: here's what I (wildly) speculate: the DLC will focus on the Thalmor and high elves who have made their mission to destroy the dominance of mankind in Tamriel and return the world to the Dawn era (i.e. "Before the Ages of Man"). There's enough foreshadowing in Skyrim that the next DLC (or the next elder scrolls title) will involve the Thalmor in a major way. There are also some factions that seem under-utilized in vanilla Skyrim, like the Vigilants of Stendarr.

It's not gonna be about the Mythic Dawn.... We've already had a game on it...

yh. I was hoping for the island Solstheim to return with all it new Dunmer inhabitants and maybe even a return of the Morag Tong. That or an expansion taking us back into some of the land of High Rock to the west.

Hopefully something like this might happen on the next dlc

I don't see why the name "Dawnguard" specifically relates the Mythic Dawn, it's similar sure, but it could mean anything. Could be a reference to Azura, perhaps after the fall of the Tribunal, a new organisation of Dunmer dedicated to the Daedra that "saved" them from Dagoth Ur, and led the Nerevarine against the withering Tribunal. That's just an example mind you, but the point is, there is no reason that "Dawnguard" (if any of this is even true) has anything to do with the Mythic Dawn.

This is actually at the top of my wish list for an expansion.

I liked both theories.

Ye, I don't think whoever wrote the article did much research into the lore...

Could be, but it could also be for the Online MMO that Zenimax Online is going to release. Still not sure.

All i know is that there is little known about Dawnguard. I can't find anything about it. I'm guessing it's a like a realm or something.

Hi speccy! Hope your week is going your way.

Thanks, as it's new to me. When it comes to DLC what I'm most interested in is if and what improvements will be made to core gameplay mechanics. To me the rest is but scenery, albeit presumably beautiful scenery. From the little Tood Howard has said on the subject I am confident they're working with the let's-improve-gameplay philosophy in mind.

I would like for Bethesda to announce DLC. Even if it's coming out in summer/fall. DICE announced their whole line of DLC, while they have a lot less to make, they still gave us a general idea of what they're doing and an approximate release date.

Very old and nothing about it hints at it being an expansion or DLC. Let the rampant speculation ensue anyway though.

Yeah, and DICE gave us a much better look at BF3's development along it's way. Suffice to say, Bethesda and DICE do things very differently.

bet it has something to do with azura- possibly blacklight province of morrowind.
silgrad team wont like that, but im willing to bet thats what they want. i had a feeling that they wanted to do something more alien and creative again since shivering isles.
