Is Dead Money good?

I am among the many Fallout fans waiting for Honest Hearts. Now I have heard bad reviews about Dead Money but is it true it is a horrible DLC and what benefits do you get from it (gear, weapons, etc.)

It depends on the type of person you are. Dead Money will make you think before you do. It can be very frustrating sometimes but once you get past that one part, you'll go: Aha! Some people don't like it because of the explosive collars the go off if you stay too long near a speaker, but those people don't understand puzzles. Really it's a great story, you get some nice gear (BAR, Holorifle, Police Pistol, Security Armor and Cosmic Knives are pretty neat IMO) so if that seems like your kind thing, then definitely go for it. But if you are really money tight and don't want to spend ten dollars on a puzzler, then by all means don't.

I think it was really fun and have played it a couple times, but there is a few things that seem repetitive about it. The gear that you retrieve out of it ispretty cool. [Holorifle, Assassins suit, A couple Mods for weapons and the vending machine]

Played it 2 times. It was decent the stuff you do get from the DLC is pretty cool. The B.A.R is monster gun and the holorifle is cool, but the story is ok and the DLC is long. Also your going to have to figure your way through a lot of obstacles like poison gas and explosive collars.

Yes.

It reminds me of the bastard child of any number of survival horror games and Operation: Anchorage (the "break into the casino's vault" premise is very similar).

However, if you're looking for a deep, engaging storyline you're probably in the wrong place (except for the companions, which are as usual, awesome), but if you like mindless violence with some decent puzzle-solving, then I highly recommend it.

DM is not worth $10.
The only way to play this consoled hump is with Godmode enabled.

I thought it was good and bad. A bit frustrating at times, but fun at others.

You get great rewards for doing it though.

yea it's pretty good. it kinda reminded me of a survival-horror, a little. pretty creepy. it's kinda challenging, which is cool. my melee and unarmed skills are maxed out, so i think that made it a little easier for me, since they --[spoiler alert, i think]--they take all of your weapons away from you. i made due with my fists.--[end spoiler]-- at times it'll piss you off, because DM "can" be frustrating. totally worth the $10 if you love FO.

Its a good DLC with a great story and great rewards, though it is not really what you would expect from a Fallout DLC I must admit. If you don't like survival horror games, then you probably wouldn't want to get this. The Villa is kind of creepy at first thanks to the Ghost People and the Red Cloud and you can easily get lost in the Villa. It gets better wants you get into the Madre, considering there are multiple ways to end your story plus you can gamble! I'd say its a great DLC overall, but some people like the reviewers at IGN didn't like it because it was "hard". As long as you have a level >20 character, you should be fine. If you haven't leveled to 20 yet, then you might want to wait before being kidnapped to the Sierra Madre.

Sorry, but I have a feeling you completely missed out on the story of Dead Money. It wasn't just given to you, you had to find it through Dialogue/Old terminals/journals.

Right, then --v

Let me rephrase my post.

"However, if you're looking for a deep, engaging storyline as good or better than in the main game".

Dead Money had a good story, but it's no Fallout 2 is all I'm sayin'. But then again, it's not meant to. Like I said, it's a good survival horror game, which is kind of the point of the DLC.

Yes, Its emphasise the game in story and gameplay rather then combat, and thats something that I personally liked, now, if you expect combats and great battles, this not the DLC for you

Reviews can go to the oblivion for what I care

Interesting story with links to the companions. Classic tragedy with some old school vegas story mixed in.

I think it's deeper and more emotional than most of the main quest.

DM was very very good as long as you don t mind thinking. hardcoe mode makes it better.

Who ever said you don t get good rewards for DM did not play DM. You get filthy rich, get a lot of sweet weapons, and some armour that is 16 dt and says "security" on the back. What dlc gave you more than this. I came out with over 700 pre war money alone.

Even with a modest barter skill that is over 5000 caps. I also left with 3 gold bars I got over 10 000 caps a piece for. So I made over 35,000 caps from dead money.

Like I said if someone said there isn t good rewards they didn t play DM.

Eh. It's good and bad. You won't be upset when it's over, that's for sure, but at the same time it has some great moments and a good story with some sweet loot.
As I recently discovered...it's MUCH better the second time through.

Copy Pasta from another post

I think Dead Money Is outstanding. the writing of the whole scenario was great. the characters were believable and well acted. loved the game changer the cloud, changed the game from a run and gun to a survival horror type game. i spent the good part of a whole day going over every square inch of the sierra madre, I know I still didn't find all the secrets. best DLC I have ever played. I hope the Next 3 DLCs are as long and engaging as this one. and I for one Hate most DLCs.. too short and i see them just as a cash grab (see also oblivions DLCs Horse armor? the vile lair? the Pirates cove? all just made to make you spend Money.. both in game and real life. the $$ for the dlc and the ingame Cash to Unlock all the "Perks" of owning the location)

for all the TLDR people out there

Worth the 10$.
Buy it now
Do not expect a run and gun situation

and some armour that is 16 dt and says "security" on the back.

and its considered Light armor too
only weighs 17lbs vs 25lbs for combat armor

I was one of those people who had been bashing dead Money... often referring to it as Dead Monkey (don't ask); after playing through it a few weeks ago i have changed my mind about it. I really enjoyed it, even though I still think there are big problems with the base game...but that's not the point here.

There is great story telling, plenty of puzzle solving, lots of speakers, and exploding collars, speech checks which may determine the outcome you get for each person involved here; All of which can get pretty frustrating if you don't take your time and survey your surroundings before acting.

While I enjoyed it and will likely play through it again, I realize that there are those that won't like it for one reason or another. I guess it's whatever you want out of your gaming experience.

I'll keep it simple, Dead Money is the best Fallout DLC since Mothership Zeta.

If you're on the PC you can always use god mode (tgm in the console). If you're on console, you're out of luck... sorry. I personally didn't think that the exploding collar was much of an issue until the final leg of the DLC where there were obscured speakers everywhere.
