Dear Obsidian,
I feel absolutely compelled to share my frustrations about Fallout: New Vegas with you. This is not something I would normally do, but I really feel that as a consumer who has purchased your product with my hard-earned dollars I have a right to speak my mind.
Before I start, let me just say that I played though Fallout 3 (Xbox 360) twice (good guy/bad guy) for a combined total of 193 hours. I also purchased and completed all of the expansion packs that were released. In all that time, I can only think of a handful of occasions where there were some minor glitches in the game that briefly interrupted my experience. I LOVED Fallout 3.
Now, onto New Vegas.
In the 66 hours I've invested into your game so far, I have experienced:
- Countless game crashes where I've had to restart my console. I would say confidently that on average, I have to restart my console once for every one and a half hours of gameplay.
- Broken quests, which have resulted in me having to go online to find out exactly what I did that caused the glitch to occur, and reload old save games (costing me hours of time) in order to go back and do it another way.
- Items disappearing from my inventory, never to be seen again.
- Horrendous, inexcusable load times, some in excess of 2 minutes, that have almost fooled me into thinking the game has frozen.
- Frame rates so bad the game is unplayable, resulting in me having to back out of the game completely and restart it.
- Audio glitches, including one last night where Knight Lorenzo's voice changed in mid-conversation.
- Enemies and NPCs falling through, or floating above, the game world.
- Unresponsive controls, ex: having to press 'B' multiple times to enter my Pip-Boy (not during combat, simply standing around doing nothing).
- Companions who 'wait' in locations for no apparent reason.
- Invisible walls all over the friggin' place! Seriously!?
I could go on, but I think you get the point. I'd also like to mention that in my opinion, based on my own personal experience with New Vegas, that the patches released so far have done NOTHING to fix any of these problems.
I do understand that with a game this complex, and of this size, that certain bugs are bound to get through testing. However, there is no excuse for releasing a game this broken, this buggy, to retail.
I am writing this post just to let you guys know that once I am finished with the main quest, seeing as how I've already invested quite a bit of my time (I'm not even going to bother with any side quests at this point), I'm going to trade your game in for credit towards another title (which is something I've never done before). I will not play though it a second time as I was planning to do before I picked it up, nor will I purchase any expansions to the game (which are also extremely broken and buggy from what I've read). I am so insulted, quite frankly, at the quality of this game that the odds of me ever purchasing another title developed by your company is slim to none. Too bad.
Amen!
