Defeating Legate.

Post » Tue Mar 29, 2011 11:54 pm

So I'm at the last mission, No Gods, No Masters.

I've cleared out the camp and I'm at Legate. I only have 78 speech and 67 Barter so talking my way out of it is out of the question.

I've tried fighting him a dozen times and it's impossible, he wrecks me everytime. I have a plasma mine and a frag mine I lay down but they barely scratch him, and his guards with their ballastic fists tear me apart.

Anyone got any tips?

Do you have an earlier save prior to No Gods, No Masters? If so, I would find a Meeting People magazine for boosting Sppech. If not, I'll check through the guide and see if there's one somewhere nearby.

You can actually talk to the Legate? O.o;

I always head shot him from afar.

Use your weapon skills?

If you intended to talk your way out of trouble why didn't you max it? If you intended to be able to do more than be a fast talker use your damn weapons.

Armor penetration is key.

People seem to be overlooking that a lot when it comes to this fight.

Yes, and he's quite charming for a guy whose name means 'butcher' in Latin. You need a 100 in Barter or Speech to talk him into going away and an 80 in Speech or Very Good Karma to challenge him to a duel.

I would've maxed it but I wasn't aware of the option to talk my way out.

Get Veronica as a companion, and give her Fisty and power armor.

Then run and hide while she kills everything.

If ya going have to fight him, ya can use his melee AI to ya advantage. Ya see, they follow a clear path and will usually not run out and jump off a cliff. They would just go around and follow down hill. Ya, on the other hand, can jump off the short cliff and Legate would usually use the path rather than follow ya off the cliff. This would give ya time to run, VATS, and or heal when ya hit the bottom of the cliff and Legate is running towards ya. There one cliff near his tent and another one at the bottom area but ya have to turn left rather than turn right in the "road". Use both cliff and put ya weapon away for better speed and pull them out when ya got the time to attack.

I say usually because sometime, if they attack ya during ya jumping off a cliff, their animation would follow ya.

He was a difficult fight when I went up against him. I used up my .50 ammo (roughly sixty bullets, although a missed a few times considering I kept running out of APs), then used up close to 70+ .44 Magnum rounds using the Mysterious Magnum. I killed his allies and him, but that was easily the hardest fight in the game.

I had absolutely no trouble with him... He was too easy. He went after Ed-E, killed him. Then he went after Boone, almost killed him, but I sniped Legate in the head to finish him off.

OP: I'm assuming you have your weapons skill maxed at 100 and you have a good weapon with you? Okay, if those two things aren't true then reload a previous save and level up some more and find better gear.

Once you've done the best you can, the only other alternative to defeating Legate Lanius... is to use drugs. There are chems that increase your damage (Psycho), chems that help you take less damage (Med-X), chems that give you more AP (Jet, certain Nuka Colas), chems that make the world go slower (Turbo), and the best part about it is that different chems stack their effect with each other. Go load up just before you talk to the Legate, then see if you can't demolish him. Don't worry about addiction - you're at the end of the game. You can buy chems from the bartenders in Gomorrah or the Red Rock Drug Lab where the Khans camp out at.

Easiest trick ever. On your way up the path to where it triggers the dialog just before you reach it place 4-5+ c4 and get your detonator out. Proceed to the dialog and choose the fight option. Back peddle back behind your placed c4 and as soon as he steps on the c4 detonate it. Killed both him and the 2 adds for the couple attempts I had at it.

Don't forget that the chem, Turbo, is your best friend. It helps you in dodging his melee attack. If you don't want your companions to die, situate them at the very bottom of the stairs. You can also try shooting his sword out of his hand as that seems to help a bit and he will eventually switch to a dagger.

I used no cheap tactics at all. Just mines and my trusty Anti-Material Rifle :). Oh and some companions as cannon fodder...

You've got to be joking.

I think I used 5 rounds on him.

Don't waste time killing his allies, either, they're doing jack squat for damage if you've got decent armor.

The Legate, however, does a ton. Kill him first, stops his allies from spawning.

To talk him out of killing you, you need 100 speech but that kind of defeats the purpose of having a boss.

The only way I was able to do it was to get outside the fence and snipe him. There is a rock near the tower that you can use to get legion guys who come out after you. Use your chems and any skill mags you have.

Lol, I accidentally got addicted to tobacco and my 100 speech went down two points :(. Ended up with me on top of the cliff right across from the Legate I sniped one of his mooks, switched to "This Machine" with custom JHP rounds and jumped of the cliff. The other guy followed me down went into vats, I think 3 shoots took him out. Then I just focused on Legate and took him out.

After trying many times and failing to kill him. (i had no other saves outside the camp) I just put it on very easy and just one shot sneak critted him with the amr i found. If you one shot him, his guards with the ballistic fists seem to glitch and stay at the top of the hill by the tent, even when you walk up to them.

Yup, I know there is at least 1 way to resolve it through speech. Unfortunetly for me, my speech wasn't high enough to pass the second speech check my first play thru. So I just melted his face with my alien blaster :shocking:

First time I fought him I was lvl 30 had rex and boone, and got my butt whooped all up and down the place, took every chem and everything, later I found out if you just save anything to up your charisma and speech to 100 then you can talk him to running his big butt into his tent lol. If your speech is too low, try getting the Naughty nightwear in freeside at the twins (the one with the guns) it ups speech by 10. Make party mentats +5 to cha, and read a mag. Otherwise try this, put it on very ez and have alot of stimpaks, have a follower carry big guns for you and when you get into the tent area, grab a grenade launcher or grenade machine gun or a fat man, anything explosive and take the little ones out first, Just hittin them a few times will cripple them so that helps. Try using Armor piercing anything on him, if your high up on melee try using the chainsaw, i killed him quick with that another time. Or try taking the perk where it ups your dt by 5 and NEVER knocks you down (brick wall) cause thats how he was whooping me, kept hittin me. Another tactic i use on hard enemies, get a strong rifle, take a pysho, steady is a must, and that other drug thats like medx+pyscho, and med x too, cause they stack. Eat about 20 different foods, it'll keep healing you like 20 sarsparilla's and anything you can eat. Then Target him asap, Right arm, left leg, I always target the right arm cause they'll drop their wpn, and since everyone in the game is right handed their left leg is first so your chance of hitting it goes up. Cripple his Right arm and a leg then he cant hurt you, get the Light Machine gun with armor piercing bullets if you use the LMG like that the dmg goes from 12 to 27, and with a 200 round clip your unstoppable, for me it seems even more damaging then the special Minigun. Go to town on him. Also try using the cattle prod, laugh if u will, but i encountered 3 Reavers and a glowing one, on very hard at level 8 and had them on the ground in one hit each. It does mad fatigue damage, Ko's them for a good half minute. Try all that and you'll beat him or anyone quick as can be.

Before entering his fort I picked up several anti-material rifles from fallen legion soldiers. Repaired them to 100%

After entering the fort sneak up to the wall opposite the hill his is standing on...he won't see you - I had 25 sneak. and save, then snipe his head - only a little of it is poking out from the hillside but it killed him in one shot, guns at 40 or so.

I also killed him with two punches using a ballistic fist - but i had piercing strike and an unarmed skill of 90+
