I despair, Bethesda making a Wii game

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:22 am

Why oh why are there so many people who don't know the difference between Bethesda Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks? It's not that hard to figure out people.

Aye. You don't even need to remember the difference between both, you just need to know that developing a game is different from publishing a game.http://rlv.zcache.com/rage_guy_fuuu_fuuuu_mug-p1683252636073336762opcc_400.jpg

So Bethesda bought the rights to the Fallout series, made one game, then gives the rights to another company?

Why oh why are there so many people who don't know the difference between Bethesda Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks? It's not that hard to figure out people. One of the latest comments in the first video that came up in a google search for the trailer says:

Oy... the facepalm smiley doesn't even come close to illustrating this situation...

On the review I watched it said Bethesda. Glad it was pointed out by more than one person that Bethesda didn't actually develope it, I can breath easy now - no more despair.

No no, they're not giving them the rights, they're just letting them make it.

When will people learn that Bethesda is Zenimax's only company.

Not exactly. From my understanding, Bethesda is letting Obsidian make a Fallout game because they have people from Black Isle. I don't know who approached who about it though (whether Obsidian asked or Bethesda offered, I mean). Bethesda still owns the series though, and they are making a Fallout 4.

Well they're giving them the rights so they can make the game, a temporary license or something, but why wouldn't they simply make it themselves? Is their team..Busy? :D

Edit: @Avis
Thanks, still seems like a loss of money to me though.

I just remembered the OP hates Nintendo.

Very true and I would have hated them even more if Bethesda had made the game, turning my favourite games company to the fluffy side.

Well Pete Hines said in the OXM podcast earlier this month that them choosing Obsidian had absolutely nothing to do with them having Fallout creators there, though he could have been lying. But considering the guy didn't even finish asking the question before he started saying "No, no, nope," I wouldn't doubt he was telling the truth.

I also recall, back when New Vegas was announced, Bethesda saying Obsidian approached them with the idea.

They're busy twiddling their thumbs, slowly approaching bankruptcy, duh. :P

No, they've given permission for Obsidian to use it for that game. Bethesda still owns the rights.

Haha, oh man, I completely forgot about that thread. Ultum must have found his false information to be soul-crushing.

On the contrary, it's a relief now that I know they're not wasting time and it wasn't false information, it was just incomplete, it said "Bethesda."

Now I'm curious, if the next TES game was a Nintendo exclusive, what would you do? :P

Wait, what you just said is conflicting. Did Bethesda actually choose a company ("Pete Hines said in the OXM podcast earlier this month that them choosing Obsidian...") or did Obsidian approach them themselves ("Bethesda saying Obsidian approached them with the idea") and Bethesda agreed? Or do you mean a variety of companies approached Bethesda and they chose Obsidian? Gah, this is a confusing mess.

Won't happen, could you imagine Oblivion on the Wii :lmao: ? I'm no expert but I'd imagine it would be impossible to fit Oblivion on the Wii, certainly in it's current form.

It would fit just fine, a Wii disc has the same capacity as the dual-layer DVD used on the Xbox 360 version. Playing it on the other hand, wouldn't go so well unless they toned down the settings. It would still look considerably better than Morrowind.

Like the Wii is so different from the 360? Bethesda shifted from producing PC games for advlts years ago.

Too true. :( The Bethesda I love died in the '90s.

Frankly, I'm rather surprised the New Bethesda doesn't strictly lock into the Wii for all of their games these days. Seems about their target near as I can see.

Considering Todd Howard's extreme hate for the Wii, I don't think we'll ever be seeing a Bethesda Game Studios game on the Wii. And I'm perfectly fine with that.

Geez, seems Bethesda can never get a break. They make Morrowind and boom, they're dead to people. They make Oblivion and boom, they're dead to people. How many times can they die?

Forever. Like the Pheonix, they will rise from the ashes of their (perceived) failure (by a small minority). Or maybe its like a craven lich returning with its phylactery? I don't know.

Bethesda isn't making this, Vir2l Studios is (Vir2l Studios is another company owned by Zenimax Media).
