Did It Flop?!?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:23 am

Hey guys I'm just wondering what are all your first impressions on Brink and if you believe it flopped? if you do or do not explain why.

and I was wondering if SD will be changing anything in the next week or so( big changes)

This game did what it set out to do. Personally, I think no.

And if people ignore extremely biased reviews, it'll flourish.

I've been playing since it was released at midnight, and i'm still having a blast. Brink is fun and very team oriented, love it. Read some reviews and I can see some of there points but it's the first day it came out cmon bugs will be fixed soon enough.

I'm having a great time with the game even though I am unable to play co-op, or get online due to PSN (we all know the story by now lol). I've played around 6, or 7 hours straight already today; just stopped actually.

If SD/Bethesda don't fix all the issues with the game, yeah, it'll flop.

I have played Brink for about 10 hours as of this post. I've completed all first star challenges and a two star challenge, along with getting to level ten, rank 2, and completing the Resistance campaign plus the What-If missions.

I love this game. 10/10. SplashDamage and Bethesda have hit multiplayer fps mayhem and perfected it.

You've done all that in 10 hours? What's the longevity of Brink?

Nope sure didn't i love it ! 9/10 for me they just have a few issues to work out. One of them i hope is some sort of compromise on some sort of pre-game lobby to collect your party.

I've noticed a pattern. If the review happened pre release where there was only bots to play with it got a bad review. If the review was post poned until after its official release and human players the game got great reviews.

AI seems to be the problem ->

Starting at midnight (PC/Steam Preload) I played till maybe 3:30am before packing it in for the night, lol. I just couldn't pull myself away because I'd see another map count down...

As for the longevity, in my opinion that depends. Are you going for all of the achievements? Leaderboard spot? High level/badass looking character? Or are you going to just play with your friends?

I'd say that it'd be more beneficial anyways to get a good team of friends together to join your game to go through the first 3 campaign missions, then attempt some challenges to unlock weapon mods and weaponry while gaining xp in the process. I plan on doing some two star challenges before I start to do the Security campaign tonight.

Also, if you're a svcker for a good story, you should actually LISTEN to the audiologs you unlock over your playthrough. Just my two cents :)

Also at the end of the Resistance campaign...
Spoiler
One of the rewards was a Movie log, similar to an audio log but cinematic and EPIC.

i have played for about 4 hrs now and did not have issues with game freezing (which i read about earlier before picking it up) or problems with graphics at all. played some of the challenges and campaign mode, but didn't make it onto the live. so no it didn't flop. almost forgot i have an xbox.

In terms of quality assurance it certainly did, given how many people are having issues across every platform. In terms of gameplay, and what it promised to do, I don't think it flopped at all. Once the game is actually working well, which I got it to do after some tinkering, it plays just like I thought it would, and it's definitely great fun.

When it works good the game is awesome. The only drawback I have is the lag online.. which is somewhat sporadic... When its good its great and when its bad its real bad.

Are you playing behind a router mate? Try port forwarding 27015 if you are UDP and TCP always/allow. It worked for me.

Its a fantastic game with some lag issues. Once they are sorted out the game is great. People who follow the review bandwagon haven't even played. Having put in a good 6 hours or so now, the gameplay and concepts are solid. Leads to a lot of fun once you learn how to play.

How could the game possibly flop on it's launch day? Ask again in a month.

Pretty much the same in my experience lol. "Hip-fire" is definitely the way to go imo, and ADS seems to be very situational.

Very much so because of the SMART system. I suggest to anyone on PSN to try the Parkour This challenges to get used to the movements and aiming.

It'll be worthwhile eventually when PSN goes back online you'll be facing NINJAS if your opponents if they know how to play well :D

In a way it could be a good thing since people would have more of a grasp on how theyre meant to play in a team leading to less initial frustration :twirl:

As I have been going over steams top 20 sellers for the past 3 days brink has held the #1 spot all this time, which is a good thing. From my dealings with top sellers lists in steam, any time around a week to two weeks at the #1 spot means a game is 80% or better on a ranking system which means its got all the making to make even the most critical gamers want to at least try it.
