Did vampires lose their sparkle?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 11:18 am

When oblivion came out it seemed like everyone and their dog was drinking blood. This time around i've barely heard a whisper. Is it because the vampires are having too much fun to post on the forums, or are vampires just "not cool" now?

Just seamed like the vampire feature was toned down a bit compared to other features / stories.

Like werewolf as an example-
Not much to do as an vampire - No real quests and unlike oblivion no, vampire hideout. (but that was a dlc so who knows about lateR)

Nope, it's Werewolves now.

Everyone and their dog wants to be a werewolf in Skyrim. Because werewolves are cool ya know.

Also I think the Twilight movies have put most people off vampires...for now. And for different reasons.

They're busy with the latest twilight movie I guess..?

I don't know, I've never enjoyed being vampire or werewolf in any TES game so don't really know what the attraction was in Oblivion.

Vampires are passe, for at least the next 20 years. Fads happen in roughly 20-year cycles.

I hated Vampires in Oblivion, and as soon as I catch the disease in Skyrim (which has had it's named changed, but yet has the same [censored] (my opinion) effects) i break my rule and fast travel to the nearest shrine so i don't have to waste a cure disease pot on it.

Also, Twilight has pretty much ruined Vampires forever, unless Blade and Buffy can come together and murder those sparkly bastards. But even Wesley Snipes would die laughing when he saw them. :sadvaultboy:

It would seem out only real hope is 30DoN and any similar movies coming out in force and erasing Twilight from everyone's mind through gratuitous violence and non-sparkle-ness.

I never found the ones in Twilight totally unbelievable. I think the guys that made Moonlight had it spot on, though. I've gone for werewolf in Skyrim, purely because I played as a Vampire in Oblivion and didn't much like it

Are there any Vampire clans in Skyrim? No? Meh.

At least Werewolves get some quests.

both of these make Werewolves awesome. Hircine is more than willing to give you both rewards for his quest if you turn out to be a back-stabbing bastard, and Alea doesn't care one but when you transform in front of her, plus she has awesome armor and is no slouch with a bow.

Vampires don't add any additional content as it stands right now, whereas werewolves are tied into the Hircine quest and the companions. In Morrowind they were way more fleshed out, and in Oblivion there were at least several NPC's that acknolwedged your vampirism, and a neat side quest to cure it. If DLC adds Volkihar or a good mod comes out, alot more will play them.

Right now female human races are bugged and don't even get assigned the proper textures or eyes, at least on PC. :brokencomputer:

I dont see why people suddenly dont like vampires anymore, its obvious that the twilight 'vampires' are not real ones at all.
They are fairies.

If you live in the woods, dont drink blood and sparkle, you are a fairy.

IMO vampires will always have potential in a fantasy universe, especially pre-technological societies, as they represent a path to immortality. Not the best path, obviously. Who wants to live as a demon without a soul? But then, it might be better than the alternative.

Besides, I hear they do amazing things with gems nowadays. =P

They do drink blood in the "Twilight Saga" so you have refuted your own proposition.

Somehow the Twilight Vampires are stronger than most people give them credit for.

Just start talking about them and people get defensive and start lashing out like that kid they hated back in 3rd grade had just been given the prize they wanted.

It's wierd.

I've never seen traditional vampires have such power over normal mortals before.

Right now my character doesn't want to be a Vampire in Skyrim.

Future characters may be lured by the promise of power however.

You know, I have never actually seen any twilight movie.
It was just a funny thing I read somewhere and am now repeating.

It still is funny, besides, didnt I read somewhere that the main teeny heartthrob vampire was a vegetarian?

Could be due to our being closer to actual immortality than ever before. Plus there was the whole "two hundred year old immortal falls for hot barely legal teen," “catholic schoolgirl gone bad does the fallen angel" thing, which always sells.

Combine that with the large demographic of young people and a youthful, taboo, sixy vampire culture just makes sense.

Vampire angst, aka utterly insufferable bobbins.

Twilight, stuff like it and things it has influenced should be banned from existence.
