Discussion: Forced 3rd person kills RUIN Skyrim.

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 1:10 pm

They RUIN it.

How hard would a toggle option have been? Bethesda should not preach about freedom and customisation when they start forcing this gimmicky fatality crap on long time fans of the series.

Whilst in the depths of Direnni tower when playing Daggerfall I did not think..man, this game would be so much better with matrix style slo mo kill cams.

I do however think when playing Skyrim, man.. this game would be so much better without kill cams.

Get with the programm Bethesda, not all your fans have come from the Mortal Kombat bandwagon.

Forced 3rd person kill ruin random encounters.. If I run into a lone bandit there is a 95% chance I'll have a 3rd person kill forced upon me. This totally ruins the feeling of suceeding in combat through good tactics, skill and observation. PLEASE patch in a toggle option.

Yeah a toggle option would probably be the best thing. That being said, I think a lot of people actually like it.

IIRC the frequency of the kill cams is controlled by a global variable, if so there's really no excuse for not having an option for it.

I like them :P

I wouldn't oppose a toggle, though. I just wouldn't use it.

OP; I doubt Bethesda preaches about anything. But I too do not appreciate the kill cams, or third person nonsense. But in a game with so many choices removed, it is not very high on the list.

This. If there is a variable to control it, why not give it an option?

Also, they do not RUIN Skyrim, they make it slightly harder for you to enjoy the game.

No. They're fine - I personally don't see them very often, and when I do it's usually with wolves. They add a nice effect and give you provide a welcome change to just slashing win your sword over and over ...

I like the kill cams on blades but not looking forward to bows, I rely on bows a my primary weapon and I have a feeling bows will be unusable.

How will the upcoming kill cam for bows work?
Will it come together with the latest patch to fix bugs?

I was planning to simply not update Skyrim anymore to avoid having kill cams for ranged and magic, but that would then also mean Im stuck with bugs that are fixed in later patches?

Id really, really like a toggle option.
I dont like kill cams, I dont want kill cams. They break my immersion, they are incredibly arcady and they more often than not do not return me to first person mode, so I have to manually get back to that after one of those annoying slo-mo matrixy things that never seem to allign with the target anyway.

the kill cam should die.

I would like a third person slow motion view of someone deleting the code.. I would almost pay for that.

The animations look like poop and furthermore, I HATE finding out because of said poopy animations that I just wacked the last bad guy. It ruins the tension..

I would much rather fight through some enemies and be standing, out of breath and heart racing, over theretheir still bleeding corpses while the fight music is playing and I am wondering 'Are there more coming?'

A lot of the time, when I get a first person kill cam, it's over in about half a second. Sometimes, it looks like hardly anything even happens. I personally like the third person ones, and have taken a lot of screenshots of them.

If you are on PC and it bothers you enough then you can probably find a mod that disables killcams. There also several console commands you can use to increase/decrease the chance of them occurring, or setting it so it doesn't force you out of the mode you are in i.e if you are in first person, you will get 1st person kill moves while if you play in 3rd person you will only get 3rd person kill moves.

^ Indeed, its not kill cams I have a problem with, its the lack of toggle option. The joke is they gave you the option in Fallout 3... yet have consciously made the decision to remove that option in Skyrim. They have falsly assumed everyone will be impressed by static, repetitive, undynamic animations.

How can anyone still be entertained by seeing the same wolf get bodyslammed for the 1000th time? Really!

The real tragic thing is that the 1st person kill moves arent too bad... but 3rd person kills happen at about a 1:5 frequency to 1st person kills.

I imagine the arrow cam will be like the FONV's kill cams right?

At least in FONV I can turn them off

I like them but yeah a toggle on/off option would be no hardship for them to include.

I don't like how i'm forced into 1st person as i play in 3rd. They should remove 1st person altogether in my opinion, i don't care about anyone else i just demand Bethesda do things to suit my personal taste, and if not... I shall whine on teh forum.

Problem is, there are some events for which only one POV animation exists.

The way TES is going it wouldn't surprise me that they add QTE's.

Good tactics, skill, and observation? Are you serious? The ONLY form of combat in this game that requires any kind of "tactics" whatsoever is sword 'n board, and all that amounts to is attempting to block a strike once in a while. Everything else is "tap x" or "hold x."

does it ruin the game? no not at all.
would it be better if there was an option to turn them off? sure, more options are always better.
