Disgusting

Well screw it let's impose our morals on this game world and bomb the hell out of them too for eating dugs , I agree that's a really funny encounter , but the point OF THE PRESENCE OF DOGMEAT IN THE GAME remains the same.Spin it any way you want to remain incredulous to others , but "thems the facts". And the irony of serving them dogmeat is not lost on me.

As for all the disgusting meat you can eat in the culinary world of Skyrim, where in the hell is the most disgusting of all "the Swine"? All the Nords Muslims or something. I want my bacon & eggs & pork ribs on my table. This is the first change the next high king should bring about in Skyrim. Import some damn disgusting pigs in to the country.

So this thread isn't about the quest itself, but the presence of dogmeat?

I'm kind of confused.

If that's the case, yeah, we can talk about the morals of it. Personally, I think one should include a lot of questionable events and items in a game, whether you take advantage of them or not. If only for the sake of realism and simulation, and that these things simply "exist". I have no beef (no pun intended) with the developers for merely including dog meat in a game. As if that's distasteful in itself. It's not like that means they support eating dog meat themselves. Just like developers take the time to write stories about crazy daedra characters - it doesn't mean the developers support some real life form of demonology just for thinking about it. They're just story elements.

Seriously. Enough with the horker loaf and mammoth snout. In Cyrodiil, they at least managed to import some ham from someplace.

We got eggs... now where's mah bacon!

There are dogs, therefore dog meat. It is only logical.

What is illogical is the difficulty getting human heart and skin. One would have thought those would be in abundance.

Also, if a shop keeper sells you a potion made with human heart or skin and you drink it unknowingly, are you counted as a cannibal?

Wait, you think of your dogs as your children?

Human meat=Fine, Dog meat=Oh hell no?
And even better, i'm sure you eat animals irl right? So dogs are completely not okay to eat, but literally every other animal besides humans is a-okay?

You know.... there are countries in the real world where dog and cat are sometimes the only meat people ever get. Now, probably none of us in the western world would go there.... unless we were hungry enough. It's a damn GAME, people. Try not to go overboard....

[I have a dog and a cat. I had a couple of horses until they got old and arthritic and needed to be helped on to horse heaven (that's where they never have any further pain, the grass is long and sweet, the water is always pure and cool, the mares are always in season....) I wouldn't ever consider eating any of the above IRL - but this is only a game.... Ignore stuff that gives you twinges.]

I love dogs and have a Jack Russell. I would never eat dog meat in real life. I have not encountered much dog meat in the game, are there places where you can find lots of dog meat? If there is, then I may create a new character, who eats only dog meat to survive. That would be quite a challenge. He would never fast travel, and would need to eat some dog meat every 24 hours to survive properly and live a healthy lifestyle. What kind of backstory would this character have?

Sorry if I went off topic a bit. To OP, I can understand why you find it disgusting, I love dogs too, BUT, it's just a game! Maybe if you have a go at eating some dog meat with your character you will find that you enjoy it?

I am a vegetarian, so I avoid all the meat in the games.

Actually, Beth has forced dogs on us now with both FO3 and Skyrim, and I am sick of it because I happen to be a cat person.

Also, dog meat is considered a delicacy in some cultures.

There is also horse meat, of course. During exploration of the arctic and antarctic, it was common to slaughter dogs and horses for their meat.

The devs are not abusing dogs by any means, nor do they suggest doing so in the game worlds. Nor do cultures where such is considered a delicacy necessarily condone abuse. America has factory farms which abuse many animals and which are the subject of various movements, but many Americans continue to buy and eat products from such places.

Heh. Val, your imagination is endlessly inventive. Hmm.... backstory.... Toon met up with Hircine somewhere, challenged him to a dice game, lost, and eating dog meat as in your post was Hircine's "winning roll"?

AiTenshi, I too am more a cat than dog person (though we've always had both - we weren't going to get another dog due to husband's age, lifestyle changes etc. - but the doggie goddess had other ideas....) so I would really like to see cats as pets in the game. I don't know if having a cat player race precludes that somehow....

Yeah probably a little too tense , but the first time I found it I was like omg , I hope a recipe doesn't show up for it when i go to cook and some might be in my bags. Yes , my first poor toon was literally looting everything in sight and selling it. Until i discovered weight to worth ratios, rofl. The human parts thing is kind o curious , you're definitely sent out and paid to kill an awful lot of humans , but I guess that balances an ingredient.

pitdemon, it's one of those things that you just need to consign to "well, it's NOT real life" so you can get on with the game.

This. Well, I'm not a vegetarian, but there are certain types of meat I find particularly disturbing, so I just avoid putting the pointer over any meat. If I ever do a "realistic" run where I force my character to eat, that character will be a vegetarian.

Actually, all my toons are vegetarians. I'm just not into the whole in-game meat thing (not in WoW either.... I'll make stuff to eat, but I won't cook buff food that's meat-based.... Then again, you don't really need buff food any more anyway....)

And yes, I do feel the same way about horse meat  .

How do you feel about human meat... that's in the game too...

Do note that dogs are a legitimate means by which to obtain meat.
I personally find it distasteful but honestly we are talking about medieval nordic Skyrim here. I see no wrong in that its available. Also I'm ethnically Korean and in Korea some people do eat dog. Most Koreans choose not to (because many have dogs as pets) but its a legitimate food.

Good idea Serethil. Either he lost a game of some kind to Hircine, and as a result has to forever eat dog meat to survive. Or he was once attacked by a pack of wild dogs while travelling through Skyrim, and he just survived but they gave him a rabid disease.

What would he be called? I'm thinking Tom Gade (anagram of 'dog meat'), an Imperial with a very hairy beard. He shall wander Skyrim in his ragged robes and have a very dirty face. And a huge scar. Ultimately, he will want to seek out the lovely Namira and will get her 'Ring of Namira' entrusted to him. With this ring, he can finally banish his 'dog meat' curse, and can start enjoying fine dining and feasting upon human flesh.

What happens next? I am going to create the character now. Muahwahaha!

It's a game.

Anyone stationed in Korea that ate on the economy probably has eaten a lot of "different" stuff. Just chew and swallow....

I find myself highly amused that one person's "I feel ill when I see this 'food' in the game" post has inspired someone else to create a character who eats only that food, with a suitable backstory to boot... I love this forum. You guys are so entertaining.

I am still working on my Valen's Skyrim Journal over in the "Elder Scrolls Artwork and Fan Fiction", but after I finish that I will start a new thread for this character. I will post it in the "Elder Scrolls Artwork and Fan Fiction" though, as I think that is where the moderators prefer you post Fan Fics.May take a while though as I still have a long way to go with my Valen's Journal. What I will do though is take notes as I play with my Tom Gade character, so I will be able to write up the Fan Fic when the time comes.
