Disgusting

I have no idea if people feel the same I way I do about this.

To me, personally finding dog meat in the world of Skyrim, makes me sick to my stomach. Whenever I see a stall having it out for show, I remove it and throw it in the water or off a cliff. Same things goes for any in my houses.

I once entered a Bandit Cave, read chef's journal and walked in his kitchen to see dog meat all over. I was feeling my dinner come back up. I pretty much ran out of that room and kept going.

The people of Skyrim have plenty of meat to eat, cow, mammoth, fish, chicken. But some reason the DEVs have no love for dogs and thought it was a good idea to add this in. I mean hell the Kajait are cat people, why don't you add in some cat steak too when you kill them?

Yes, I am a pet lover, I own two "kids" of my own. And it just makes me sick to think the DEVs had to go so far and add this item in.

I could tolerate it (maybe) if Skyrim was so run down poor this is only what people could eat, but come on, eat a cow not a dog

And yes, I do feel the same way about horse meat  .

Dog is just another form of meat (sorry Dogmeat).

That said, I don't eat it in-game myself. But to each his own.

Hehe... you know this is just a game, right? It's not real dog meat... I promise.

PS I have two doggie children of my own (pit bulls)

Edit: BTW, you can eat a whole lot worse than dog meat in this game. There's... other... kinds of meat as well.

Deal with it? I like pets too but I don't get all gushy over the fact a few pixel are labelled dog or horse meat.

PS: You can have all the Khajiit, or Argonian, or Elf, or Human 'steaks' you want if you do a certain quest.

I love dogs too, but I thought that chef/bandit story was funny and demented. It kind of goes to show how desperate they were. I was happy to put them out of their misery.

I have to admit, I'm a cat person, but I can't look at the dog meat or horse meat either. I actually can't bring myself to pick it up, even. I try to avoid mousing over meat, since I'm not interested in picking up even the ones I don't find revolting, either.

Dog meat is legitimately eaten in many cultures in the real world, I don't see why it can't be in skyrim... you can eat human meat there too afterall

I thought it was a shout out to Fallout, to be honest. I agree it's gross.. But when I look at it that way (Fallout shout out), it doesn't bother me as much. ;]

Side note: i'm a vegan/vegeterian IRL, so seeing any kind of meat is less than desirable to me, but my characters eat it sometimes (birds, fish), since they're Ranger/druids/woodsmen type. Haha

It is not uncommon to see dog meat in other countries. Some people think that eating cows is gross.

Human meat is legitimatly eaten in papua new guinea

Try not to think of it so much. By picking it up and throwing it around and whatever, you're just kind of making it worse for youself, just run past it and try and force the image out of your mind.

Whatever you do, then, don't dabble in alchemy. You have to eat the ingredients to find out what they do - so get ready for a nice plate full of sabre cat eyeballs, spider eggs, falmer ears, giant's toes, skeever tails and Daedra hearts.

Eat them up, Yum.

One of my kids (50 lb. pit) is trying to climb up in my lap as I type this. It's hard to post to these forums when a big-ass waggy-butt dog is trying to "help" you with whatever you're doing. :)

"Let me type, too! I can do it!"

PS If you want to avoid something even more mentally hideous than dog meat, stay away from the "haunted" tombs in Markarth.

Just think about the comedic aspects of the cook. I can imagine the scene he writes about in his journal.. how he fancied himself a gourmet chef, and cooked leeks for them.. and they threw them out and said they wanted meat. I imagine his bitterness, and suddenly a fiendish grin on where to get meat.

I imagine the bandit lifestyle is similar to a crackhead too. I killed a female bandit in that place, and I wondered what she could have been otherwise. Maybe she ran away from home, with some lame boyfriend. She probably had a loviing family somewhere, but now.. she lives in rags, probably addicted to skooma, scrounges for food, her boyfriend is good for nothing..

So yeah, like I said.. I put them out of their misery.

How is it any different than eating cow, it's just eating the muscle of that animal. Some cultures think eating dogs is fine, others wouldn't dare touch cow meat due to it being a sacred animal to them.

In a barbaric world like skyrim, if you are a traveler surviving on what you find, you would kill and eat a wild dog to survive.

I find it funny that everyone wants to talk about the moral implications here, but I just want to talk about the story implications. It's hilarious. Come on.

Or maybe I'm just sick. I thought the movie "Parents" was funny too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parents_(film)

you do know that some cultures raise dogs just for the meat right? And if i was hungry i..still wouldn't kill my dog, but the neighbors dog might look tasty jklol

I'm surpised no one has raised a fuss about horse meat, where i live you'd think they were the most important animals on this earth, instead of cows you can ride. (Horses are nothing like cows, i said the last sentence as a joke)

Realize this, eating dog meat may not be in your culture but it may be for the Nords. Just because we have an abundance of hamsters doesn't mean we eat hamster meat. If it's in the culture, it's in the culture. Sorry you're so sensitive.

I think it's implied in the story that the Nords probably don't go for dog meat either. We can assume somewhat that it gross them out, much like modern western sensibilities. I wouldn't attack the OP for that. The whole thing is supposed to be a demented scheme by the cook, that he hides from the bandits.

Also a dog person, and I have two boys of my own.

I'm personally against eating dog meat on the basis of Natural Law. Alpha Predators do not eat other Alpha Predators. Even when two alpha species kill each other regularly for territory, they do not eat each other. Thus rule doesn't apply when starving, obviously. Humans should not, thus, eat wolves (of which dogs are a subspecies). The same is true for cats, but does not apply to all pet-species: rabbits, horses, iguanas, etc are all fair game.

That said, I don't have a problem with it being represented in game, since as noted, it's not uncommon in other cultures. Interesting story: this past week my parents had a houseguest, a girl from Korea. I had a birthday party for my boys, and we had invited a ton of their dog-friends and our people friends over, including my parents, and they invited their houseguest, telling her that we were throwing a "dog party". She was very surprised to see all the dogs running around and playing when she got there: she had assumed that at a dog party, dogs are not the guests, but the main course.

Let circumstances disctate your strong moral standings , either die or eat. it really is that simple. While eating mans best freind is detestable to me also, being thrust into a survival situation has a way of changing your mind rather quickly and I ind it a good testament to people's stromg moral convictions to not just succumb to hunger and suffer egregiously first.

Like I said, this quest isn't even about survival. Why does everyone keep mentioning this? It's about a demented cook, and it's presented in a kind of funny way in his journal. The bandits weren't necessarily trying to survive. They were being picky eaters and unappreciative of his "culinary" talents. So he secretly feeds them dog meat. Morals are irrelevant. It's just supposed to be kind of dark comedy.
