DLC Not 30 Days Exclusive Anymore?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 4:10 am

At the end of the G4TV showing, Morgan asked Todd when Dawnguard would launch on the other platforms and he said he had "no idea".

Also, when asked about mounted combat he said it's available on PC now and coming to "Xbox soon". He didn't mention it coming to PS3.

What in the world is going on?

Dawnguard is still exclusive to Xbox for 30 days. The 1.6 update, which allows for mounted combat is currently in beta on PC and will be released (I hope) very soon.

He didn't say the DLC is going to be available on the same day for all platforms. The 30 days is still valid.

Thanks for clearing that up

Weird that the game director has "no idea" about the 30 day exclusivity.

Well, only reason it'd come to Xbox soon would be the deal with Microsoft. PC already gets it since they Beta test it. As far as Dawngard goes, there's still the 30 day exclusive with Xbox as long as stuff works out well.

Xbox is beta testing Dawnguard.

Then why didn't he say that? He said "June 26th for Xbox" and "no idea" for PC/PS3...

He has no idea as to what the release date for the PC and PS3 versions is. They probably haven't set dates for those yet because they are focused on the beta test and XBox 360 release. The 30 day thing is still intact, but the other versions might not release exactly 30 days afterwards. It may be more.

The dlc could be pushed back due to something found in the beta so it is entirley acceptable that he does not know.

It's not that he has no idea about the exclusivity, he just doesn't have any idea about when the PC and PS3 fans will get to play Dawnguard.

Doesn't bode well in my eyes.

Though, hopefully Bethesda is smart enough not to prolong this DLC too long. They haven't exactly been PR champions in the eyes of many PS3 users (I'm a little more neutral about it), and prolonging the release date for DLC for several months beyond the exclusivity deal ending isn't going to win them any more friends in that particular community. And considering the fact that Dishonored is coming out in October, they could very well see a boycott of that game as an act of reprisal.

He could have said 30 days after Xbox.

It goes

Xbox 360 Exclusive Beta -> Xbox 360 Exclusive 30 Days (Or however long it could be for the others to release) -> PS3 and PC release date (Somewhere along the line)

Agreed. If Beth stiffs us Ps3 users one more time it's going to be five too many times.

He is probably overwhelmed here, his brain is probably fried... people say strange things when they cant think straight... like when Peter Molyneux said that Fable 3 was no longer an RPG... (which it never really has been in my mind, but to each his own) which was misinterpreted as Lionhead returning to the RTS genre... which was not the case.

30 days is a contractually stipulated minimum. It can be more than that, and they probably haven't set a specific release date so that is why he did not know.

Xbox 360 Exclusive Beta -> Xbox 360 Exclusive 30 Days (Or however long it could be for the others to release) -> PS3 and PC release date (Somewhere along the line)

This guy has it right, everyone just needs to calm down, Todd's been saying "IF everything goes well in the beta then June 26th for Xbox" hence why he most likely has no idea for when the release will be for PC/PS3. Also is it confirmed that 30 days is the length of the exclusivity, because all outlets have been saying "as of yet undisclosed amount of time."

That he is... that he is, but to be fair he said this while he was being hounded by media as he was getting into a cab, if anyone can think straight at that moment then they deserve an olympic gold medal, and to be studied for being an extra-terrestrial ;)

What about mounted combat? Sorry for the confusion, i'm just going by what the game director said. He specifically mentioned PC and Xbox. Weird that he didn't include PS3...
