Well swords are not much fun, you also just stab things with it. Or maces, what's fun about hitting people with blunt things? To be honest bows are kinda dull too, you just launch a piece of wood and hope it hits something.

I'd love spears. It's just a new playstyle to try out.

I also would like flails, combined with a shield ^^

Longswords are better at stabbing then slicing, that's what scimitars and katanas (or any curved blade) are for. Anyways, I think it would be pretty cool to use spears/lances on horseback.

With a spear you can swipe and use the back end too, depending on if it's a two handed one, I'd live one handed and two handed ones, other pole arms, lances and throwing javelins, axes and daggers would be awesome too

Actually what I'd like is to wack enemies with my staff if they got to close. Two Worlds 2 had it. And it was very simply, guard with staff and hit enemy. Useful if staff ran out of enchant.

longswords are good go slicing. katanas are chopping weapons not slicers.

The spear is probably the oldest type of weapon in the world, it's existed since the stone age and has been in use ever since, it is tied to almost every ancient and medieval military force that have ever been in the world. It has been used as a thrown weapon and melee weapon on both cavalry and infantry, a spear is so much more handy than a sword, hammer or dagger in general. It appears in norse mythology, it is a weapon used by norseman, I can hardly imagine a more fitting weapon for a medieval game let alone one set in a nordic inspired region.

Spears? That's so prehistoric. What I want is more Medieval weaponry as possible, like the Dawnguard armor types and weapons.

Those are one and the same thing, Javelins are but a subcategory of what is commonly known as "spears".

You can jam a spear into the ground to successfully impale an incoming enemy, even a horse or bear, a spear can have greater range than veritably any other melee weapon, you can propel yourself over obstacles with a spear. These functions probably won't make it into the game, but they are hands down more versatile than any other melee weapon, its only weakness is the spears size, it may be unwieldy in confined spaces but luckily spears come in equally variable sizes as their uses are varied.

Yep. Still want spears.

And throwing weapons.

And staves that can hit stuff when out of charges.

I didn't say longswords could only stab. Also, katanas are curved, curved blades are meant to easier slice through the enemy. Straight blades are better for thrusting/chopping.

I'd like to see spears if they were able to give the characters decent animations.
If I recall, the Morrowind spear animations weren't terrribly good.

And if you want to see a good spear fight, rent the Kurosawa movie "Hidden Fortress."

I mean you can look up spears on wikipedia, honestly. They have greater cultural heritage in ancient and medieval warfare than just about any weapon, as well as having a mythological roots in norse, english, irish, chinese, japanese and god knows that other mythos. The fact that tamriel seems to be void of spears since oblivion I find simply unreal.

Hacking slashing and chopping are pretty much synonyms of each other and most often swords from medieval areas weren't very sharp as far as slashing goes
