Ok, I will wait. I really want to help. I'm making a scenario of zombies just to practice my new learned skills.

Kabukiman: Hopefully I will post by the level by the weekend. You can always still help however. Are you any good with scripting for FPSC, or modelling, or textures, or artwork?Chris.

Sorry, I have just buy FPSC (I don't have any of the model packs) two weeks ago. I have read the manual, and I'm making small scenarios (creating the buildings, putting entities inside, a bit like with the sims).

Hi Nyarla/Werian/The Observer/Kabukiman/All:Here is the level - two rooms, please choose which you prefer. I like the one with the table directly in front of the fire, where the fireplace is between the windows. I have called the file 'Lurking fear nearly' (or something like that) to differentiate it from the last one which is quite a few posts previous, please check both if you need to.http://www.sendspace.com/file/v9mwj9Once we have all decided I will try and finalise details. The things that need to be finalised are: - new title/menu screens, a picture of a newspaper page to 'pop-up' when the player gets near the newspaper on the desk, finally we/I need to work out, how to end the level once the picture of the newspaper has been looked at. Anybody with more FPSC experience than me, please make suggestions.Kenshi: It would be great to have you join the project. What sort of thing would you like to contribute? Can you do voice acting? Im sure we can work in your talents, but of course we will need to make a group decision (but that would of course include you) about what resources we want/need.Kabukiman: does this one work for you?Chris.

Chris: Correct, I would be beyond thrilled to do some vocal acting for this project of yours. If, when the time draws near, you could send me a script or at least something I could show you my talents with then I will record some stuff for you so a decision could be made.Thank you for your recognition

Both rooms are good, but I vote for the right. The left one looks orderly, pre-meditated like a scene and the right one is natural, a more convincing living space of somebody.I haven't got a reply about the Martense family member models yet and haven't contacted the artist who made that background image I posted previously. (her only contact is via an instant messenger program)

Nyarla/the 'team':We can wait for a reply regarding the Martense family member models. Theres no rush, since the next big job after finishing the intro level will be to start designing level 2. I will make the intro screens (including the menu screens). I can put together something okay looking, and I downloaded some fonts, so it will be good to use them. Does anybody have any strong preferences regarding what they see on the intro/menu screens, before I use my 'creative imagination'? Nyarla, what do you think about Kenshi, doing some voice acting? I think it is a good idea. Can everybody let us all know which room you prefer? If you do not mind, please let us all know that too!Cheers,Chris.P.S If anybody else would like to produce the intro/menu screens thats cool, just say.

Nyarla, what do you think about Kenshi, doing some voice acting? It would be great to have a voice actor. Our protagonist could comment on the situations he gets into, or do a voice briefing at the beginning of each level or he could read the newspaper loud.Hi Kenshi!Could you give a taste of your voice to us? So that we know what it could be used for.

I checked out your voice Kenshi, and I agree it sounds good. Nyarla, I think your suggestion of a briefing at the start of each level would be the best option, with the possibility of audible comments during the levels (though for this I would need to set up a sound 'zone' so the sound would play each time the player entered that zone). I dont think that reading the paper out would be a good idea, mostly because I am still have yet to work out how it will trigger the end of level!Anyway Kenshi, your voice acting skills will be required but we need to decide how best to use them, do you have any ideas?EVERYBODY: What do people think of which room (in the last demo level) is best, or are people happy with whatever?Cheers,Chris.

Chris: Whatever you would need I could do. I believe at least for the character being played there should be some talking for interactions sake. Intro monologues would be ok in my opinion but in the end it's up to what is in the game itself (npcs, monsters/enemies, etc)I'll get some more materials ready for audition for some test talking (this will of course be made up and should have no unwanted influence on the current production)Edit!: I wish I could have gotten some actuall acting done but I have a rough script written up! I'll do vocals tomarrow, untill then here's the rough scriptFrom the Diary of Marvin Waites:You'd never really expect your life to go to waste like this?then again I suppose you'd never even begin to contemplate the things that I've been through these past few months. It all started with that dream?you may call it a dream but it seemed like a secondary extension of my current life. Those horrific yet breathtaking landscapes, the transition of my body from states of solidity to those of energy, all seems too surreal and yet it is as I have come to account of it. I've lost all track of time in this pit?has it truly been months? Or perhaps time has trickled to a stop in this forgotten cavern. I suppose if this "beast" is to be my end I shall have this description of my final hours to warn the world of the Lurking Fears that lie waking in the dark. The Lurking FearA Rough Script by Kenshi Mardon*We join Marvin waites (I thought that this might be a fitting name for the nameless narrator) P.I. in his office. Just as he is packing up his briefcase he decides of read the newspaper lying on his desk. Reading aloud*Waites: "local authorities have blocked off a parameter around the infamous Martense mansion?" *to himself * If it's so infamous why haven't I heard of it? *continues* "we asked reporter Arthur Munroe about his findings only to be denied this information. The only leaked information we at the New England Chronicle have been able to uncover is that the mansions residents have possibly gone missing?" *to himself* missing persons huh? Jesus, these Arkham Press goons will go after anything to get a story these days.*looking out the window into the cold dark rain, the moon seemingly glaring at him Waites decides to survey the current state of the mansion. Arriving at the main stage of the game Waites encounters Mr. Arthur Munroe badgering police for information*Munroe: Come now my good sir, surely there must be something we can tell the worried public about the state of this case- *is cut off by Officer 1*Officer 1: Look Artie, I know you are just tryin to do yer job but so are we, please leave the premise before I escort you myself!

I'm happy to see that you are such a prolific voice actor. ;) Intro monologues would be ok in my opinion but in the end it's up to what is in the game itself (npcs, monsters/enemies, etc)We don't have plans for NPCs yet. The rough plan for the gamplay right now is this:1. the introduction level (the player's flat)2. the Martense mansion 3. inside the tunnels under the Martense mansionYou'd never really expect your life to go to waste like this?then again I suppose you'd never even begin to contemplate the things that I've been through these past few months. I suppose if this "beast" is to be my end I shall have this description of my final hours to warn the world of the Lurking Fears that lie waking in the dark. . This certainly wouldn't work if we allow the player to move around in the flat and exploring so I thought that we should put the player in a 'black box" and then cue the narration. This black box would be level 0. And when the narration ends the player would spawn in the flat. Is it possible Chris?By the way, if we use this narration method then it means that the player survived the adventure and he is telling the story to somebody. I would avoid that being a diary because it's an overused idea. It could be a person, a book or an article for newspaper for example. This method also allows to get funny when the player dies, because it obviously couldn't happen since he's telling the story. If we want to get funny in a horror game we could add some audio each time the player dies (like in Prince of Persia), like "Oh that would have been horrible!".About the actual monologue: It's a bit clich? but I also think that you know what we are looking for. I would like to hear you perform this.I dont think that reading the paper out would be a good idea, mostly because I am still have yet to work out how it will trigger the end of level! We could redesign the flat. The ending trigger could be the opening of the locked entrance of the flat or an area trigger behind it. The key would be deep inside the flat. And somewhere between the player's spawn point and the key we should put the newspaper in an unavoidable way.

Hi all,Kenshi: As below, and - lots of great work on the script, but I assume, as you said, that the materials "will of course be made up", I am very much a Lovecraft purist and would personally prefer the voice of the protagonist, and the direction of the storyline (until we go beneath the mansion) to be as Lovecraft wrote it/them. What you have written is excellent, but would require re-working/re-writes of the story. So it would be that we re-wrote the story for the sake of the voice acting, rather than wrote the voice acting script, for the sake of the story.Nyarla:As above, and it may be feasible to use the 'black box' for level 0 approach, however I think it would be easier, make more sense, and follow the story more closely if we had a text intro screen, with the initial story (and there may be the possibility to have a voice-over there) on it. Then the flat would the first actual level. As I said, I felt that reading out the paper would not be good, however when the paper is picked up (or even before) it would be good to here Kenshi's voice saying something like "Hmmm this looks interesting" or somethinmg like that.Funny is a possibility, bust as you say, would only be necessary posthumously if the protagonist was retelling the story. I like the idea that this is the first time the protagonist encounters the Lurking Fear, especially since in this version, he goes beneath the mansion. As per the trigger for the opening. Im (fairly) sure that I can get the viewing of the paper to initiate either the opening of the door, or the actual ending of the level. I am just not sure yet exactly how to script it!One of the main things, I would hope to avoid, is to be stuck in an eternal loop with this first intro level and not get beyond it to the real exciting stuff of level 2 & 3, and yes I realise that most of the delay so far as been due to my anolly retentive attitude! :( I feel the real creativity should be saved for level 3 under the martense mansion, bearing in mind this was not written in Lovecrafts story.Guys/Girls/Hybrids/Ghouls/Favoured of Cthulhu (I dont actually know what gender anybody is) let me know how you feel about this. I would prefer if we stuck to Lovecraft fairly closely, and if we finalised the first level, as Im itching to get on to the second and dont want to get bogged down with the first. However, if you both (and we all) feel strongly that the game should take this other direction, then Im cool, it is after all a team effort.Cheers,Chris.

I agree with what you said.We can start thinking about how to do the mansion. My biggest concern about it is where will the player start, inside or outside?

Hi all,Kenshi: Great! I look forward to hearing it!Nyarla: I think it would be good for the player to start outside. If this is the case then I think we have roughly two options. 1st - player starts at the front of the building. 2nd - the player starts round the back of the building. This one is my personal preference. I think further it would be a good idea to have something round the back, for example gardens, greenhouses, outbuildings, the graqve of Jan Martense. Even if we start around the front of the building I think we should have the actual way in to the building round the back. If we go for this option it would be best to have a lot of fog, to limit the visible distance and therefore the drag. However (and by now you must know how much I like howevers) if we want a smaller level 2, then we should start inside the mansion.Kabukiman/The Observer/anybody else I have forgotten (my apologies!): Have you all decided which of the two rooms you like. By tomorrow, if I have not heard from anyone more, I will go with what people have said so far, because I would like to get this moving.Cheers,Chris.

Hi guys! The new version didn't worked also, but I have bought a new computer and now it works fine. Any room is fine, but I just have one complain: I deduce it is day, but there should still be some lanterns in the walls.

Hi Kabukiman:I hope you did not buy a new computer just to play the game! :o   :) There are lanterns, as there is one on the desk, and some light coming from the fire. We are going to go with the second room. Hopefully this weekend, I can work on getting the level to end when you pick up the newspaper.Chris.

Hi all,Kenshi: Love the voice. Even without an accent you sound perfect to voice a Lovecraftian project. In fact your voice without characterised accent is probably the ideal one for the project. I loved the background music by the way, where did you get it? I hope to work on the project this weekend. So we should hopefully have some lines for you in the next few days.Kabukiman: a good reason to buy a new computer then. All: work continues (or at least it will when I have got round to it). Just prove I have not been totally idle, I include two basic pictures I drew/designed/whatever. Once is a prospective title screen:http://www.sendspace.com/file/73ia2eThe other is the newspaper page, I hope to have pop up when you enter the zone behind the desk.http://www.sendspace.com/file/jzsctfLet me know what you think,Chris.

Chris: You really thought my normal voice was good? I suppose if that's what you're looking for I'll do it. I look forward to getting some lines to work on and get to you. As for the intro song it was in the description but for the sake of saving time it's from the Playstation 1 game Tomba 2; the song is called Donglin Forest Cursed (I love the music too! So very Danny Elfman like)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Dywzb3XQ6Q
