Does anyone else miss the old wood elves?

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 12:29 pm

I remember being constantly frustrated by how obnoxious the wood elves were in Oblivion and Morrowind, but now that they are somewhat more normal in Skyrim, I find myself missing how they were... they were annoying yes but they sure were a lot of fun to have around. Who are we going to make fun of now that we don't have people like the adoring fan, or Glarthir, or Fargoth?

Does anyone else feel this way or am I just insane?

I'm sure that I don't want an entire race of jokes. I mean it was fun. But that's for Oblivion.

Glarthir was the only one of them I found remotely interesting, and that's because of what Else God-Hater tells you about him.

At least now they're as depicted in the lore.

Don't miss 'em, and the damned Thalmor in Skyrim get on my last damned nerve with their superiority.

Nothing an Unrelenting Force can't absolve though.

Hell. No.

That was stupid. Why would a race of ritually cannibalistic, carnivorous, woodland savages, that are renowned for their mastery of guerrilla warfare and tactics, as well as for their ferocity and savagery, be.... whatever those things were in Oblivion. Ever read that book explaining how a squad of Bosmer used guerrilla warfare to slaughter a platoon of Khajiit infantry, without a single casualty on their side? I don't think a pack of Glarthirs could accomplish that.

Edit: Make fun of the Dunmer. They're personalities, attitudes, and generally everything about them is a total joke to anybody with more guts than a caterpillar.

Bosmers never annoyed me in the first place. I haven't stopped to think about it one way or the other. *shrugs*

I loved female bosmers in morrowind, I always wanted to side with Galbedir instead of Ajira :P My female character was a wood elf, she looked great (with mods!).
That said, I think bosmers in Skyrim are pretty a pretty interesting take on the race, it certainly fits the atmosphere of the game imo.

The females really haven't changed. The males, of course, are completely different. Fargoth, Gaenor, Adoring Fan, and Glarthir.....compared to Skyrim Bosmer? Like Faendal? The Bosmer males in this game have a very savage look about them and are pretty bad ass. Kinda like that one fat nerd in high school you used to make fun of that grew into that sixy stud/fox. Same phenomenon going on here (so to speak).

I love them the way they are now. It fits the lore.

Tribalism and ritualized cannibalism aside, Bosmer are the least stuck up of the Merish races, if not all of Tamriel. They're supposed to be flexible and adaptable. Unlike Altmer or Dunmer, they don't want to push their superiority on you because they see no point. They live in the future, not the past like all the other elves. Heck, they're like the Bizaro-Bretons in that they're part human.

Now Bethesda needs to make the beast races not seem like jokes. "I'm this otherworldly lizard man with a normal human sounding voice" Huh? Also, Bethesda makes Khajiit sound like they lack intelligence.

Hell no. For the first time Bosmer are shown the way they're supposed to be and not as one big joke. I love it.

I really like the Bosmers new appearance.
They no longer look like idiots, their new style is very well done.

Speaking of Bosmer does anyone know where Faendal lives? He has a key on him, but doesn't seem to have a house in Riverwood?

Also Bosmer just seem more generic now to me. Seem even human... Don't like.

With the grim atmosphere of Skyrim, the Oblivion wood elves wouldn't it well.

Ehmm.. southwest (I think) corner of town. Its the house next to Gerdur and Hods. He's almost never in it though, so you have to check the door name.

Well, the whole race was a joke in both MW and OB so no, I don't miss them at all. I know they are a bit eccentric by lore, but dude.

And their voice, it's absolutely awful.

Wylandriah is actually sweet and adorable, I don't think she belongs in the same category as Fargoth and the Adoring Fan.

I like that I can finally play a Bosmer and be serious about it. I've always liked them in the lore, but shied away from playing them.
