Does anyone favour the mace?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 7:04 am

Hello there.
Just a bit interested as to if anyone actually favours the slow swinging mace to the sword (or axe).
I've had a go at using the mace for a few characters, but find myself losing too much health in comparison to my enemy due to the slowness of the mace's swing.
If anyone does prefer the mace; Why? Why not just use a sword?
I can understand for an axe, as its not that slow, and it makes you feel pretty badass

I have never gotten into maces myself. I wish they had one-handed hammers. Something about hammers. Even if the stats were exactly the same as maces, I would use a hammer. But maces? Meh.

Maces are undervalued. But they have an extremely strong advantage over other one-handed weapons. They have an immensely high impact force. (1.0, as opposed to Sword which has .75)

Investing in a lot of stamina and stamina regen means you can lay down strings of power attacks and knock your enemy around to the point where they can't retaliate. To that end, when you attack with maces, you really have to focus on power attacks. Smart mace-users know how to do a double-attack, where you attack once normally, and right after the impact of the regular hit, you wind into a power attack.

This move is done by tapping the attack button once, and about a half-second after the swing starts, tap and hold the trigger again. The result should be a quick-attack and a power-attack in near instantaneous succession.

I have a character who dual wields maces and has both swing speed perks to speed up the mace's swing speed.

If Bethesda ever sees fit to actually give enemies Armor Skill, Mace could become one of the best weapons in adjusted DPS as well. As it stands now, none of the "Weapon Perks" are useful to any great end. Certainly not useful enough to invest in, at least.

Maces are all I used on my warrior and I loved them. Yes early on it's a bit tough but later they are extremely powerful. Against armored enemies especially once you get the perk to reduce armor by 75%. That reduction includes spells and wards so even against mages it becomes helpful. I could absolutely smash bandit leaders. I also prefered the finishing moves as they were very satisfying to watch. Just something about bashing someone's head in is appealing to me when playing this type of character. Power swings do a ton of damage with a pimped out setup. I've played plenty of sword characters in the past too and have never used maces so it was a nice change of pace.

I dual wield a daedric mace with soul trap and paralyse and a daedric sword with flame and ice damage. I usually hit with the mace first, which one hit kills lesser creatures and bandits - if sneaking and not spotted I can even one hit kill giants with my mace.

I've never used any weapon except for maces. When starting the game I went straight to Markarth and did the quest for the mace of Molag Baal which pwned all the other weapons I had, and the ignore 25% of armour perk seemed like it would be more useful than the perks for swords or axes, so I went with maces and I've stayed with them for the last 200+ hours.

I guess i've just never liked the look of them enough to really invest in them. Must make a character in the future focused on maces :P

This is the first RPG I've played where I haven't favored the mace. Usually, the mace is my favorite weapon because it's so brutal. What would be worse? Getting sliced up with a sword or having your bones shattered and inards bruised and/or ruptured by a mace. I always imagined that maces caused more pain to my opponents. However, with the introduction of the beheading kill cams, I stopped using the mace altogether. Nothing says, I just killed you like the separation of the head from the body.

Oh heck yes i do. The animations of the melee weapons, aside from kill cams make it all look like blunt force trauma, so i use blunt force weapons. Love the hammer too. Dadric. Awesome sound besides the first hit.

I've got an orc warrior/thief like character that uses a mace.

I like to mix it up a bit.

I have a H2H Khajiit, a dagger wielding Nord, a Forsworn/Breton that uses a bow and axe, and a Redguard that uses magic.

I've all ways liked maces, the power is great and they look even better.
They seem like the perfect weapon for a heavy armor character.

The mace is a favorite along with the axe. I like the slow speed of the mace and how it reminds me of when i used to lift weights and some times send the weights crashing to the floor! BLAM BOOEY!!! YA HA! HA! HA!

Thank goodness i lived on the first floor then.

You can behead people with maces as well. I like it because the way it animates it looks like you just flat out knock their head off. The fact that the Ebony mace I use has bladed edges makes it seem even better. The only thing that could be better would be if their head just exploded into bloody pulp but I'll take the knocking the head off animation since that is pretty sweet too.

My melee character is an Orc, not only does it fit his personality but the damage is more then an axe or sword. I have yet to invest in the mace spec in two handed but with the increased armor ignore, armored foes, most enemies would seem to take the same amount of damage, also Volundrug swings at the same speed of a sword, even though being a mace.

I ve read that longhammer, the unique 2 handed orcish mace, can possibly be the highest dps item in the game. Unfortunately my game bugged out on me and longhammer is nowhere to be found. :(

Anyone max out longhammer and use it as primary weapon?

Thanks! Gonna try that one out. I agree with you--the mace is a strong weapon. In Oblivion, I eschewed the mace for the long sword, but am enjoying the mace in Skyrim

Yep. My Orc uses maces and war hammers. He's the only PC I have that does that though. The rest use swords and magic. Oh and sometimes axes for my Nord warrior.
