Does anyone here design maps

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:05 pm

I need a map designed for me and it's to have:
A sahara like region
A jungle
Snowy mountain region
A desert (with canyons)
Tropical islands
Rivers
Lakes

If not is there a link someone can provide to place that designs maps

A paper map
I need it because I'm thinking of designing a video game and thought I'd start with the gameworld

I was doing the same. I designed tthe map, story and everything. I started doing the game, sound and design for characters, then I realized "i don't have enough experience in ruby programming for this". then dropped it. :(

I wanted to. I really did. I thought I had an excellent story. I even bought a hard cover note book to take down ideas. Looking back at it, its a huge mess, where i'v scratched stuff out, squeezed stuff in, and made changes. But I didn't have any experience with ruby, do make the story come alive as it was on paper. Even if I had started learning it back then, I still probably wouldn't have enough experience to make it work like I wanted it to lol.

I have done a few times, really very amateurish. I made a Morrowind mod out of some of them, but the project got to big while my studies took over. That and my computer started slowing. When I get my new one I might take it up again. It is great fun, building your own little world.

I hope you don't run into what I ran into. Where you will need quite a bit of experience in programming to make even the simplest things work how you want them to lol.

Ah. Any plans yet on what you're going to use to make the game?

For object based game making, if your going RPG. You can try RPG Maker VX. Thats the only object based game design tool i'v heard of. But I never paid attention outside of that.

You will probably be looking at buying actual pre-designed game kits that most free MMO's use these days. Where you create and add your own textures, designs and build your own game. They just sell you the engine, which most of which are object based. They usually allow for wide-scale compatability for importing your own stuff, however you still need programming experience to have anything in the world work.

I tried learning C++ once. Furthest I got was 'Hello World'. Then I got really bored.

If you decide to make a game, and you need someone to create something similar to a 'Hello World' program, I'm your man.

Actually, designing a world sounds fun. I'm going to maybe think about that. Depends if I can find the motivation to do it.
