What perks are worthwhile, what aren't, and what's your overall evaluation of it?

I forgot what exactly the perks were, but the one that makes your picks unbreakable is pretty legit. :P

None of them. I tend to use Treasure Hunter (?) that increases special loot, and that's about it (I have a mod which enables me to take individual perks without the ones below it). But by the time you're there you don't need the money. And by the time you're there you have tons of lockpicks and know how to open locks. Ignore this tree completely.

I just went up to unbreakable. And got the treasure hunting perk as well.

I didn't really see the point of Wax key and master lock becomes a waste due to your lock pick being unbreakable anyhow.

I wondered whether that one was worth it, given the number of lockpicks you come across in the game and that thieves can easily and cheaply buy them in bulk.

Thanks for the input. Have you tried the tree before? I know many have said that it looks like trash, but I want to hear from people who put time into it and see what kind of changes were made to their gameplay.

Were they enjoyable and worth getting? Did you notice a significant difference in loot?

It's a tree for convenience , it really serves no other purpose. I like it simply because it takes me less time to clear a room of lock boxes and I like getting more rare items.

I maxed pick pocketing as well. Not all perks need to min max your char, Trees like pick pocketing, lock picking and the speech one (forget it's name) are just for fun.

I do notice more gold and loot. And being that my main is a thief character I do enjoy them, as for worthwhile I'd say maybe, but it really depends on personal preference. I think so. Without a single perk invested in lock picking you can still open master chests, the tree just make it easier to do so.

I agree though the speechcraft skill of being able to sell any loot to any vendor is helpful for getting rid of your junk. It's annoying to have to walk away from a vendor with several thousand gold on him just because he won't buy the junk you're selling, that perk allows you to zero every vendors cash reserve in town and is the reason I'm now a millionaire.

I don't bother with it. My warrior types just bash them open, my mages do other things, which does include using the console to open them. I don't like being punished for being a mage. I want my open lock spells back, but Bethesda had to remove something so we could have our precious dragon shouts . Shouts that I'm not the slightest bit interested in using...especially since none of them will help me open locks.

On my current character I put points into Novice Locks, Apprentice Locks and Adept Locks. And honestly I can't really tell if the perks are making any difference or not. If I were doing this character again I would probably put those three points somewhere else.

Unbreakable is very useful with it the master perk are rendered useless, so that you can use that perk elsewhere. It kinda takes the fun out of lockpicking though.

Wow, that's kind of amusing. I definitely want to use Speech (no longer Speechcraft :() for the character I'm planning.

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought. I'm not okay with making ordinary lockpicks work like the Skeleton Key.

You know what's even more amusing? Max Pick pocketing. Nothing makes me happier than sneaking up to a thalmor group, stealing their armor and weapons, and then watching them run around naked and beat on my with their fists.

The huge amount of lockpiks found in the game makes the skill absolutely useless. I once wanted to pick novice locks easier choosing the very firs perk, but it didn't change much, it was as hard as it was before (not that novice locks are hard lol, but it didn't make any difference).

you can have 100 lockpicks and still not open a master lock without perks and a high enough skill lvl.

The perk that allows you to pick locks witchout being seen is really useful, and I get it essentially every time.

In my limited experiences so far, this one definitely.

My Thief Guild character has her lockpicking tree maxed out.

It's nice, for what it is.

I don't use any of those perks.

Some skills, like lockpicking, speech, etc., I just level up as you use them. And I usually carry a few hundred lockpicks with me, so no problem if I break a few.

There are more important skills to use perks - like anything combat related - increasing bow damage, sneaking, etc.

Actually it's easy. Try to move the lock without moving the pick at all, if it doesn't move quit and restart until it does. After that it's easy to pinpoint the correct position. I've picked master locks with initial skill level like that.

no i don't. They've made the stealth tree useless. It's so easy to get money in the game, who needs to break into houses to steal gems and such like you had to in Oblivion, when you can just sell 10 amethysts that you found in one or two caves?
