Does finding the elderscroll early ruin game?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 5:43 am

Hey guys, just wondering, I found the elder scroll early in the game, well im about level 22, and have only done a little bit of main quest, just came across its location when I was roaming, and go everything needed to go further, ended up getting the scroll, is this going to break my game, or do anything like that?

Did you pick up the scroll, if you did then you might want to reload to an earlier save. I haven't heard of problems occuring by getting it early but it could be possible. I don't think it ruins it because that quest ties into the one that gets you the scroll in the 1st place.

How id you get it? Don't you need a lexicon to open its container?

There's only one person you can sell it to....DON'T! And you should be ok.

If not selling it, how do you get rid of it? I can't remove it from my inventory, even to place it in a chest at home. And the damn thing weighs20.

Have you just ruined the game for the rest of us?

Some of us can figure out a lot from just reading a title...

Unless the game glitched or you (if you have the PC version) used the console to get the scroll or move up the quest sequence, you should *not* have been able to get it at all without having a certain item.

It doesn't weight anything, like any quest item, despite what it says in the description. Just keep it until you get to the point in the main quest where you can use it, and I think it should be ok. If you want to be sure, though, reload an earlier save and get it later when you have the quest

Actually I can verify you can get the scroll before even knowing it exists in-game.

And you can continue with the main quest, you just get to skip the part where you go get it.

Spoiler
After I beat the main quest, I sold the scroll to the librarian for 2000 gold. Were there any other quests that needed the scroll?

The third button on the options bar says "Special BBCode". Press it and then press spoiler and type in the box.

Spoiler
The button you click to give him the scroll doesn't ask if you want to confirm. I would have reloaded, but he made me feel so important, telling me I'd go down in history. I figured it wouldn't allow me to sell it unless it was no longer needed, and that it would be safer in the college. Too bad you can't jack it. Are there any keys to those book shelves?

I did it without even knowing it was part of the mainquest, no problems for me.

What are you talking about, I got the elder scrolls before the main quest (didn't even know the quest I was doing was relevant). Also you can't sell it to the college librarian until you have done the MQ using it, so your fine.

Actually, you can find the hermit guy without starting the main quest, before you can encounter dragons, who gives you the quest to enter the Dwemer ruin, which therein allows you to get the Elder Scroll. The quest from the hermit is separate from the main quest, and thus can be started and completed with no prerequisites.

I got the scroll from the non-main quest.
