Don't your eyes hurt?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 1:23 am

Like after playing Fallout for such a long time don't your eyes start to hurt??
Mines get all red and dry and you literally can see bloodshot in my eyes, I feel like if I keep this up I could like suffer from some sort of eye problem in the future.
So I been told that playing with sunglasses will help, so I am currently doing that. But other than that, what do you suggest for me, AND for the other people suffering from this?
Thanks for checking out my post. :)

My eyes don't hurt, but when I close them I can see desert landscape zooming towards me. Bizarre and lasts for a few days.(kind-of like when you look at the sun, and then blink, you can still see it for a while afterwards. burn in?)

No, not burn in. More like forever tranced from the Fallout universe.

Playing on my Panasonic Plasma helps alot personally, but do what the Pros do and get some Gunnars. Have you guys not seen these? Go to Gunnars.com, no it's not a link, just type it in. I hear they're awesome.

My eyes don't hurt, but everynow and then, I take breaks, so I don't strain my eyes.

Have a rest every couple of hours, and you really should not be playing for more than 2 hours in one sitting, that is when you get eye strain and headaches. It's hard, since it's such an addictive game.

Take breaks, otherwise you might end up doing some permanent damage or triggering a migraine or something. I've heard that watching a screen in a darkened room is worse for your eyes than in a well lit one, so that might help. I'm lucky (in a way) that I get visual migraines, which don't hurt and can look kind of cool. But when you get signs of eye stress (redness, bloodshot, itchyness, headaches or VMs - normally coloured blobs in your peripheral vision), it's definitely time to take a break.

if you keep playing, the ache will fade, although this is likely due to corneal damage rather than adaptation.

I suggest stepping away from your computer for healthy doses of time.

For eye fatigue resulting from video gaming I suggest a mixture of crushed Naja Jolokia peppers and lemon juice, applied in liberal doses right onto the affected surface, using an implement like an eye dropper or, better yet, a turkey baster.

Alternate remedy includes a short rope, a foot stool, and a sturdy beam.

I get red scratchy eyes if I go without sleep for too long. When it happens to me I take a nap (but then again I'm old and nap a lot anyway).

If anyone is getting eye irritation from playing any video game. Then they need to:

1. Not play so much at one time. Take a break. Go outside.
2. See an eye doctor and have them checked. Could be something beside looking at a screen for far too long. That's causing the problem.

This. I was off for a week and a bit and after so much time i started to have larger breaks and to do something else rather than my brain processing everything in Fallout, it helps keep you sane aswell, well for me anyways!

Like taking the dog for a walk, having lunch and not having the telly on, going to the shops etc, all helps you get some fresh air and thinking about something else, i cant get round the fact people play for like 3 days straight, that must mess with your head

Punch yourself really hard in the nuts and you won't notice your eyes for the rest of the day.

I think it's from reading text and watching the roulette ball spin round and round during load screens.

It probably sounds stupid but, blink more often. People tend to blink far less frequently when playing a game or reading on a computer screen, thus the dryness of your eyes. I can play all day, I mean 12+ hours minus bio breaks and the worst I'll have is a back ache from sitting so long. I can do this because I blink a lot.
