Dragon priest masks: Gain or vain?

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 10:45 pm

The Super-reward mask has limited value, since it mostly activates when you're of low health. So for the more powerful characters (Which by the time you can survive every priest - you will be), you basically have to let enemies beat on you and hope the "Small chance of" things actually do what they're supposed to. Otherwise you're setting yourself up for death.

This is my experience, as well. I've never actually devoted a character to finding all the masks asap, so who knows. The light/heavy armor component keeps me from actively using them on my mage *shrug*

Krosis is pure gold. +20 Archery, Lockpicking, Alchemy... Beautiful.
Yep, this one is another I use until I get the Lockpicking and Alchemy Enchants.

But if I could display them in a house, that would be great.
Yeah, I'm hoping for a display rack similar to the Bobble-Head display in Fallout 3 - I'm betting they're working on this.

Yeah, that messes up my perks (Well-Fitted, Custom Fit, and Matching Set) so I usu end up equipping the masks on an "as needed" basis. :lol:

Where do you display them? Is it a PC mod? One of the reasons I've never made them a high priority is because they just end up in a dresser drawer. Their effects are fine but don't always match what my character does, so they're often not very useful. But if I could display them in a house, that would be great.

On shelves. Or you can place them in the display cases in the Windhelm house yourself (like you had to do in Oblivion) instead of clicking the activate button for the case.

You can also put the masks on the mannequins in solitude, or the house in riften. I have got konahrik too, and I stopped using it as it was useless, the insta healing happened to me 2 times, and I wore it for 2 weeks. And never had the dragon priest summoned.

- put konahrik on my mannequin

I suppose the masks are really great from the stat perspective. I however can't get beyond the UGLY perspective. I don't use them because they're just damned butt-ugly. Kinda like I won't use followers because they're a total pain in the ass....

So yeah, I guess no masks/no followers means I'm doing stuff the hard way. Works for me. (Yeah, I pick the butt-uglies up and cart them home.... because they're uniques. They sit piled in a corner - until I figure out how to add a mask rack to my current house using the CK....)

Display them at the time-shrine in Labrynthian, no? That place is awesome cool. Gives me shivers every time I think about where I am.

I have all of them and I gotta say Konahrik is my favorite, stat-wise. I dunno if it's just me, but it had a higher armor rating at legendary then a daedric helm upgraded to legendary. I was about 90 heavy armor and it made use of the custom fit perks.

To be honest, all the masks look ugly to the point I don't care about the nice stat bonus. The cowl color is especially bad.
I just leave them in the Dragon Temple in Labyrinthian.

There is a mod that lets you use circlets and hoods at the same time. For some reason, Dragon Priest masks are 'circlets.' See where I'm going here? :)

In my last game I collected them all, and I probably will do again. However the mask you get for collecting all 8 is, to me, completely useless and a bit of a let down. As by the time you get it, it'll likely be near the end of the game. Not to mention it's enchantment (as has already been mentioned) because for it fire you need to be low health and by then, that probably won't happen very often. So the only real reason imo to go to all the bother is for completion, and to "I did it". Some of the normal ones have more useful enchants on them, and so I would use one of them instead.

Plus, I'm not too fond of the tusks.

You do get to keep the original masks once you get the reward mask. However, the masks are like the Shouts, some are quite useful to some character builds and some are useful to other character builds.

Me, I like the one that gives me Waterbreathing. Makes more sense to me than a ring or circlet being a mask and all.

Then give it to a follower. Those are great enchantments for a follower especially since they can't make use of the normal enchantments you can put on a helmet.

Any time you follower is downed, there is a chance they will return immediately to full health or summon a dragon priest to help. Sounds great to me. I plan to try this as soon as I collect them all.

Mmmmm, don't use followers. They get in the way. That said, my next run I plan on a mage so it might be a good idea to give it to a follower, while I hang back and blast away with spells. If they die, take it off and hire another. Sounds like fun. But still, it will be near the end of the game so I don't know how much use it will be.

So, I've finally collected all of them.

Gain or vain? I'd say gain, as I'm a collector for the joy and adventure but also, the different masks have some unique stats.

Well, actually, since you're here bragging about it I'd say: vain. :lol: :nono:

I often wondered myself why hoods (excpet for the archmage's) don't allow using circlets. Helms, I would understand but hats and cowls?

I like em, though I've only collected 5...guess I've got 3 more to go before sticking em to Labirinthian. As you can see, my avatar is sporting one right now...though that was like 150 hours of gameplay ago, so I don't quite recall which one it was...I think Rahgot.

I was disappointed that the chests and urns did not fill with goods after all the masks were collected. I don't use them, just wanted them all, as the Dragon Priests are the best boss fights in the game (so far for me lvl62), apart from Ancient Dragons.

This ultimate mask thing annoys me. Think about it, you need to go to great lengths to get this final mask, put in hundreds of hours, assuming you're not cheating and looking online to find where the dragon priests are, so ultimately by the time you get the mask, you don't even need it, you'll already be uber powerful. This problem can also be attributed to some of the perk trees too.

I'm nearing 300 hours, level 56 and I've found about 4 of these masks. I use one of them when doing alchemy, but that's about it.

Maybe you haven't found (just the mask name)
Spoiler
Volsung
yet. It has really useful enchants...especially early in the game.

They can. Just take them to a workbench to see what kind of ingot's needed to upgrade them.

Or hey, look at this list.

Hevnoraak -> Iron
Konahrik -> Gold
Krosis -> Iron
Morokei -> Refined Moonstone
Nahkriin -> Ebony
Otar -> Refined Malachite
Rahhot -> Orichalcum
Vokun -> Iron
Volsung -> Corundum
