!st Dragon Shout ... completly underwhelming ... any one fee

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 10:49 pm

My first word wall was Kill, part of mark for death shout. I had about 5 words before i even kill the dragon first outside Whiterun.

Once dragons where around, I unlocked that shout and used the hell out of it.

As people have mentioned: Unrelenting Force is great fully worded. It's both an interrupt and a stun. :D

As to random dragon spawns,it is still not too late to stop them if you stop the main quest here.
Spoiler
A Blade in the Dark.
After you receive the horn from Delphine, don't talk to her again.
You can take the horn to the Greybeards, and finish the previous quest to learn the rest of the unrelenting force shout and whirlwind sprint as well If I remember correctly.
The best part of this is that the dragons near word walls, and dragon lairs still do spawn! So that you can still acquire dragon souls for your shouts.

That will make Unrelenting Force fun to use.

No more random dragon spawns, until you start up the MQ again!

Most shouts are weak when you only know 1 word. Once you get all 3, however... that's another matter entirely. As for Fus Ro Dah, you learn all 3 during the Main Quest.

Ulfric managed to get an opening to stab the high king using this one word shout.

I just dont like the long cooldowns even with the amulet 80 secs for a fire shout is too much.

and no i didn't stop playing the game there so was extremly happy to find out they can get stronger but really 1st time i cast it i was like USELESS!

also I dont want Skyrim over run with dragons like Oblivion got over run with gates id be happy if 1 or 2 dragons could be seen flying about every now and then but 3-infinity might be a bit much ... so how many more quest should I do for the main quest so dragons dont start mad spawning? last mission i had was to
Spoiler
go to some cave (i think it was a cave) north east of Marthal and gather a horn of something
my last save was at Marthal

How is the first shout useless? Good lord.. it interupts almost anything. thats enough time for you to get a few good hits in.

The first shout is the best IMO.

the vast majority of shouts are absolutely worthless and have a high CD attached to them.

Some that were actually useful, classic fus roh da, marked for death, the mq related one...and yeah I cant think of any other I actually used.

I use Aura Whisper with my theif constantly to spot out baddies..

Ice form is good crowd control.

Unrelenting Force is more conditional, great for pushing things off cliffs and setting of traps, but I get more out of Ice Form for crowd control.

Dragon Rend is the AA shout of choice.

I don't really use the others to be honest...

The only one I really use is the Slow Time one. Maxed out, its pretty good against hordes of Draugr Deathlords.

Aura Whisper is the best one word shout. Especially in ironman.

Slow Time is the best three word shout. Rooms can be cleared before the effect ends. This is the one skill that transforms a demi-godlike character into a godlike one.

Dragonrend is the only way to defeat Alduin. Because he is invincible in the air.

Fus is great, imo. When you're in the grill of a heavily armored opponent, Fus knocks them over and lets you whale on them til they recover. It also recovers REALLY quickly.

On Master difficulty at low levels, many of the stronger enemies' power attacks will take 70-100% off a health bar. Fus is a guaranteed interrupt for such attacks.

I remember when they revealed (prior to release) info about the ethereal form and thought it sounded pretty cool. Had it on one character and used it once. Not much milage out of that one. :(

I use the first word of Become Ethereal just as a dragon uses it's breath attack to prevent all incoming damage. Some of the earlier dragon fights on master difficulty can be a one shot kill thanks to the damage over time unless you chug potions to prevent death. Anything beyond the first word makes the cooldown too long for the strategy to be useful though.

I find the Fus Ro Dah shouts some of my favorites :)

Well... When im using a bow anyways lol. Somebody gets too close, I 'FUS' them back, and it gives me enough time to switch to a melee weapon.

Also, I dont think theres a better shout than Fus-Ro-Dah when theres a tall place to fall off of, lol.

So I guess over-all, all the shouts are completely situational for me.

Tbh, I wasn't keeping up with the game until release and bought it sight unseen. Didn't even see the (cool) trailer. lol..

So, the Shout was a sort of surprise to me. No, it wasn't powerful, but it was interesting how the story was developing.

Using FUS at an enemy standing on a cliff or overhang is one of the funnest things in the whole game.

Fus is pretty much for when you need to stagger someone before you strike. Fus Ro Dah is for sending an enemy flying off a cliff (REALLY useful for Forsworn mages, because they like cliffs)
