Dragonborn DLC exclusivity

Post » Tue Nov 06, 2012 8:01 am

*At this point, we obviously don't know for sure if the DLC is Xbox exclusive, this is idle speculation, but it sure looks like the Xbox will get the DLC some time before the other platforms.*

OK, i'm making this thread because people complained about exclusivity being discussed in the '1.8 update/Dragonborn DLC' thread.

Let me get one thing straight - to avoid people regurgitating that terrible backwards gamer 'self entitlement' argument that has been destroyed time and time again - I am not annoyed that I have to wait, im annoyed because the communication/wording has been utterly terrible. So if you are reading this and planning on using said argument, don't waste your time.

There is confusion over the latest trailer. Essentially, the trailer implies yet another timed exclusive as it only lists the release date for the Xbox version in the description. as does the Bethblog post (December 4th), and does not acknowledge the other platforms. This is just a discussion regarding the DLC's release for PC/PS3 users so please; no flaming or raging (even though that is pretty tempting).

Someone pointed out that Hearthfire was not marketed as a 'game add on' therefore, did not count as exclusive content; which is not true as It is listed as such in the description for the official trailer: 'Hearthfire, the next official game add-on for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, will be available for download for 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox LIVE? on September 4.'

That begs the question; Assuming that Hearthfire was not exclusive why did we have to wait for a month (longer in the case of the PS3)?

There is also evidence to the contrary too; both Hearthfire and Dawngaurd's trailers end with the Xbox logo, Dragonborn's trailer does not. I don't believe this makes much of a difference though; personally, I believe we will see another situation like we did with Fallout 3/NV - even after the exclusivity deal expires, the Xbox will still get the DLC first.

I was just about to suggest that someone start the Official Dragonborn Release Date for PC/PS3 thread. I guess this is a good start. I'm not sure why in the world beth is doing this. I just hope they have a good reason. People are seriously raging right about now, and you can say rightfully so.

I have no Clue if this is Exclusive or Not, Guess we have to wait.

But if it is Exclusive Here is your Problem.

Xbox signed a contract with Bethesda for the First 2 DLC'S

Hearthfire was a "add-on"

I didn't think Bethesda released Hearthfire so that way everyone could get it at the same time. So Sorry for your PC players, Esp PS3 Can't even get Dawnguard yet. Sheesh

But still, Guess we have to wait

Hmm, still I don't know maybe they haven't planned the other release yet - they should have, but we should wait for some official word.

I suppose this thread could turn into that. Could a mod edit the title?

Apparently this is the 2nd DLC according to Bethesda. If you download the trailer from their website then by default it is saved onto your PC as "TESVSkyrim_DLC2Trailer_US_HD".

I fail to see what the problem is that some people have with exclusive content? So PC and PS3 owners have to wait a bit longer? So? If anything that extra time should help Bethesda identify any potential bugs and prepare a patch before the content launches for other platforms. There's seems to be a great deal of "but mummy, I want it nooooooww!!" style self entitlement going on, which I find baffling. Learn a little patience...

I expect GStaff to say something (probably vague but something) soon.

Would be a good idea. So people can have a place to talk, rant, whatever they need to do without mods going crazy.

That's internal. I seem to remember the FO3 DLCs were released 'out of order' as well.

Let's just wait and see what happens on the 4th before we all fashion spears and ride dragons to Bethesda. It also bears pointing out that they never officially issued a release date for Dawnguard or Hearthfire. They just came out when Bethesda wanted them to.

If you read the description for machinima's video it says Xbox 360/PS3.

This, considering that the first 2 dlcs got exclusitivity I guess we should get it the same day.

The PS3 users haven't even got Dawnguard yet, it's been 6 months and there has yet to be a meaningul update on the status of the DLC for that platform... by who's standards is that a 'little longer'? People were promised content, it's advertised on the back of the box.

There has been little to no communication from Bethesda and people had every reason to believe that Hearthfire was the final exclusive DLC. The view that Bethesda will have time to fix bugs is naive at best. People said the same thing about Dawnguard, yet it was bugged beyond belief for many. (Hell, the vampire attacks - an intentional feature - downright ruined the game for many console users by slaughtering many NPC's, yet that hasn't been fixed). There is no self entitlement going on here, just frustration at a lack of communication.

I hate to say it but I don't think ps3 is getting any dlc. If they had it fixed they would announce it.

Vague maybe, but no more than that (legal reasons). But at this stage it looks very much as though the exclusivity deal persists.

Again, it's Bethesda's lack of communication if anything. When was the last update on the status of the PS3's DLC? A few months I think.

The only way it could be exclusive for Xbox again, would be if Bethesda signed a new deal with Microsoft (Hearthfire was number two, if it wasn't why then was it an exclusive for 30 days). Such a deal would be a excessively stupid thing to do, especially considering what is going on with the PS3 side of things. There isn't any point to rubbing the PC crowd the wrong way as well, especially when we were told there would only be two Xbox 30 day exclusives.

I don't know how reliable that is. I'd like to point out again though, that the trailers for Hearthfire and Dawnguard ended with the Xbox 360 logo, whereas Dragonborn's trailer does not. That must mean something

Dragonborn's video mentions being a game add-on at the end like hearthfire did, so wording doesn't seem to matter in that regard.

Indeed...

It would also be an odd time to make the DLC exclusive, what with Christmas being just around the corner. Seems illogical.

If it had been exclusive to the Xbox 360, Microsoft would have had their Xbox 360 logo on that trailer. I would wait till closer to the release date before jumping to wild unsupported conclusions about exclusivity.

Then why does it only list the date for the Xbox? It's blatantly showing that the platform is still their priority at the moment. Regardless;

At this point, we obviously don't know for sure if the DLC is Xbox exclusive but it sure looks that way.

This is what i was thinking. Why miss the Christmas sales? That's exactly what they are doing.
