"Drugged" attribute broken

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 5:39 am

Hey all,

I have been googling this issue for a few days. I was only able to find one other person with this problem on skyrim nexus and no solution.

When I use Sleeping Tree Sap, the screen goes black. If I turn the brightness to max, I can just barely see. It was working at one point, where the screen gets tinted purple and gets all wavy from the "drugged" attribute. I'm not absolutely certain what may have caused the bug, but I can say a couple things I have changed between when it worked and when it stopped working.

1. I updated my video card drivers. (Latest stable from nVidia website.)
(2xSLI EVGA GTX470 1280MB)
2. I installed a mod via NMM that applies the drugged attribute to Skooma.

What I have done to try and resolve the issue:

1. Disabled all mods.
2. Tested in windowed and fullscreen.
3. Turned down from Ultra to High.
4. Disabled AA (Swingin' in the dark, here >.>)
5. Started a new game and used the console to test the sap.

What I want to try next is updating my video drivers to latest beta, but I'm not sure if that is the problem. Last, last resort is reinstalling Skyrim. ><

Any more ideas on how I can narrow down this issue? Thanks in advance.

Try removing the mods, not just disabling them. Also, wipe your INI files just in case a mod messed with them and also verify your files.

By verify files do you mean verify game cache via steam? If so, that's something I did and forgot to mention.

If not, where can I do so?

Yes, but I'd say do it again just to be safe. However, I'd do things in the order I mentioned. With a test in between each step :)

Also, check your Data folder for any INI files.

NMM deletes the mod from the Data directory when you disable it from there, I just noticed. I tested again after checking that, and same issue.
I backed up my INI files somewhere else and let Skyrim generate new ones, same issue.
Verified game cache, same issue.

Also, there's no INI files in the Data directory from what I can tell. Thanks for helping, any other ideas?

Not off the top of my head. I'd try rolling the driver back. It's currently 285, correct?

285.62, yeah. If I roll back, which do you suggest?

Edit:
Or maybe latest beta drivers? 295.51

Uhm, try the next to latest beta. The latest isn't Steam friendly but the one before was made with Skyrim in mind. Remember to do a clean driver install.

May seem like a stupid question, but how do you mean clean driver install? Uninstall drivers through device manager, restart, then install beta drivers? Interestingly, I've noticed in the past that when I do that it doesn't actually delete the drivers from the system32/wow64 folders.

Eh, Nvidia's built-in thing in the installer will suffice. Just tick the option to wipe old stuff when you install. And, remember, not the latest beta drivers. The ones before them.

Well, the game looks two times better from those new beta drivers, that's a plus!

Bad news- Same issue. >.<

This is really making me scratch my head. What the heck else could cause this? Is there a registry value somewhere?

This is how it looks in bright sunlight. Tree sap basicly makes your screen go black. http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198017827225/screenshot/486624373477207580

That is not how it is supposed to behave. It seems you have the same issue as me?

Could you get me an image of what it's supposed to look like? Just don't have as much time as I like to check it out, you know. :)

I never ran any mods. Current driver is beta. But Tree sap effect has always been this way for me. If someone has a pic of how it should look like. It would help to understand why its not. Only other option is. I'l need to crack the game open to see what they are doing to create this effect. Could be violating a few rules.

A few years back I built my first vista 64 bit machine. Had 8800 gtx sli. Great computer. Was having major gfx glitches with SWG. Called the tech at SOE. Turned out they used 1 old DX9 32 bit componet that was not in the current DX9c 64 bit ver. Fix was to goto DX9 downloads and instal an older versiion of DX9 that still had the dll needed that was not in the current 64 bit version.

Only issues my computer has had the last few weeks. Via admin logs. Google updater corrupted after a windows update ( goggle and microsoft messing with each other) Steam updater also corrupted at the same time for a few days. Seems to be ok now. Other than micro$oft messing with everyone. The logs have not generated any errors or warnings. All my Bios, chip set and drivers are current. The last Gfx driver bumped my benchmark score up and temps down. So far my game has been smooth and crisp.

I'm on my 4th toone. Atm I have a script glitch of a NPC that seems to be respawning. Been running Ultra 4xAA and just lowerd shadows to high with the DCL tecture pacs. Shadows seem to be a little blocky on Ultra. Solid 60 fps in and out of town. No stutter or load lag.

As for mods. I'm waiting for a a working set of tools. As soon as Bethesda gives us a complete tool set. Then I will start a few mods. I have the game backed up including a DvD backup set. Have reinstaled the game 4 times sofar. Only takes me 6 min to reinstall this game. Best fix for a bad mod.

After a few seconds you'll see the transition as it should behave. I suspect you have bandwidth limitations, but I don't believe the video is very large within a 10-second margin and it shoes the correct behavior pretty clearly.

Thanks for the Youtube Video. This little bug could be a key to a much larger problim. With TES 4. We had and odd problem. Game would run great on some rigs and not others. We foud out the problem was some of us had net.framwork installed. Turned out that some of the componets used to build the game. Found thier way into the finished product.

Good chance Bethesda knows why this is a bug. But they wont tell us. We usaly need to dig it out. Hehe Usaly with a bug like this. A code monkey did a big NoNo! Main thing is to find common ground with this bug. Just did a reinstall of Dx9. No change. Could be anything at this point diver conflict to a faulty game instaler.

The more who chime in on this the better. Need the basics. Like platform to PC. window ver's xp, vista or 7 (type home to ultra) 32 bit or 64 bit. Gfx make Nvidia or ATI. Single multi GFX cards

just did a simple plugin and removed the effect "drugged" from Sleeping Tree Sap. AKA dunSleepingTreeCampSap. No black out after svcking down the potion. http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198017827225/screenshot/486624373490463144 I'l start ripping it apart and find out how this effect works. See what patths and resources it uses. just made a ring via console. dunSleepingTreeDruggedAlch "PlayerEnchantObject 877c9 e3cbb". Equiped the enchanted ring and got the black screen.

update . did a few small plug-ins. editing the magic effect "drugged". 2 of the mini mods would clear the black screen when useing tree sap. Tree sap effect slow and health boost 100 would kick in for the 45secs. "no Duration" flag or "auto calc" box checked. But sofar unable to trigger the drugged graphic's effect.

Bumping thread with an update,

Seems someone else is getting frustrated by this problem, and has gotten a little bit closer to solving it.

Do you think, maybe, that Bethesda broke it in 1.4?
