Elder Dragons Wtf?

They are how dragons should be. The regular dragons need to be buffed a bit and made less rare

This is not Oblivion, no starting points where the enemy start to spawn.
Alduin interfered in your execution, naturally he will fly around raising other dragons no mater that you do.
More of an problem, you are to weak for your level, this is an major issue with leveled enemies.

if you don't start the mainquest you can basically lvl till 50 and go to all the dragon graveyards and all of them are still there. not a single dragon resurrected.

I don't know if there will be Dragons at Peaks, though.

Nope, not even dragons on the peaks until you complete the quest at the Eastern Watch Tower.

I suppose you could learn most of the words in advance so when you decided to start the MQ they would be there waiting to be unlocked. I don't bother with the word walls when I play without dragons though, there's no point if I don't plan to activate them on that character.

Approaching 300 health, with a bunch of boosting as most went on magicka, forgot to heal once, so was on about three quarters, bite and throw finish, gone. Good. Still a bit of challenge at level 40+.
Or so I thought 'til one killed my horse. Worst moment since the stray dog died. Why couldn't a load of lightning bolts from me, and arrows from Kharjo and a passing hunter get it to land, but the second the horse finally decides she wants to fight it's there on the ground? Langer.
It seems horse meat is the most delicious meal in all Nirn.

Think the elder dragons are trouble: wait for the ancient dragons, I thought they was a joke until they appeared.

Not when it's running away, apparently. Obviously tastes better when it dies fighting. Wonder if the Orcs know that?

I don′t enchant my armor and I only have a magic resistance of 35%, ancient dragons destroy me. My only option is to shout a storm call and hide.

Ummmmmm... I lost my main character last night to an elder dragon. Had just finished the main quest line, kille krosis, killed a giant in melee, and an elder dragon swooped down and two shot me.

Dead is dead master difficulty. You complain at lvl 40. I was LEVEL 31. Ya. Apparently if you beat te main quest you get elder dragons.

I can't remember what level I started getting Elder Dragons at, but currently I'm at L44 and they're not that bad. All Dragon fights for me rely on not fighting the chompy, sharp part in the front - I go for the fat chicken legs in the back. Either I hit them with a few arrows and they come down, then I flank and hit them with more arrows (or Dragonbane). Or if they never come down and I just shoot them out of the sky.

Really, what I like about Dragon fights is that you're in control as to how and when you hit them. I mean, they're big targets, so you can see them usually pretty quick; it's not like the sneak up on you. And once you spot them you can lure them to whatever surrounding work to your advantage - open terrain, wooded forest, even areas with other creatures that might be friendly (try pulling a Dragon to a Giant camp and watch the fun).

The breath always gets me, that's why I use Shadowmere as my main tank. Works everytime.

Fun fact: You can completely block a breath attack from an Elder Dragon with - not even fully charged - Lesser Ward.

For sure, Shadowmere rocks when it comes to dragons and pretty much anything else.

Once you hit higher levels, you get stronger dragons.

On my second character I hadn't even met the Greybeards yet and I was already fighting Ancient Dragons.

Also, slightly off topic but I totally want to see a fight between an Ancient Dragon and the Legendary Bloatfly.

Still, they shouldn't appear AT ALL until you did Dragon Rising main quest.
Why not? Didn't you know that dragons have come back?

^^^ This is the best advice in the thread. Screw this "honor" crap. I want to survive. Lydia can fire arrows from a distance to keep its attention and I can get criticals from the rear attacks.

... Prior to this quest mentioned there are no random encounters....
I've made only two or three main quests; the last one was the one with Delphine "A blade in the dark", but ever since I've killed the first dragon in Whiterun, I've met and killed quite a few dragons, I'd say about 15, both "dragons" and "blood dragons". My character is level 26 right now.

Thank the stars you only have to worry about elder dragons. You dont want to know ancient. They will [censored] you till you die. I spend most of my gold on potions as of late because of the frequent deadly encounters. I am a lvl 54 with max one hand two hand combat skills and armor so poweful I barely get hurt by mages anymore, yet Ancient Dragons can rip me a new one if im careless.

Best advice, learn to use a bow. Give it a drain stamina effect and bring it to ground lvl. Then use alot of power attacks as they can stun the dragons especially the dual wielded power attack with both hands. That one rips through dragons like Nord does to a sweetroll. Also learn the marked for death shout. It weakens their health so you do more damage. And when in doubt, shout shout shout. I go for loh ka dyne works wonders.

Bashing them with either a two handed sword one handed sword or shield will stop a breath. No perks needed.
