Level 40+ = Elder Dragons.

If you are having trouble with them you may want to reconsider your build choice or turn the difficulty down.

Dragons are leveled encounters, regardless of mainquest progression.

Dragons are leveled encounters, regardless of mainquest progression.

Still, they shouldn't appear AT ALL until you did Dragon Rising main quest.

And they definitely shouldn't be able to gulp you with max health.

Yeah after the first dragon is when they appear, but your heavily railroaded up to this point so almost everyone starting out gets this far at least before deviating from the MQ. As for eating you in one go, thats what happens when you dont upgrade your health at level up. Expecting to survive against any high level creature with the starting 100 health is foolhardy. This is especially true if you have no armor to speak of as high level dragons have attacks that easily do several hundred damage when not mitigated by armor.

He said he's got 350 Health. That's more than enough at 43.

Not without armor its not, especially on higher difficulty levels. And just as a bit of side info my game originally defaulted to master when I first started playing the game, so many others may also be on master without noticing.

I am 59th and have started to get named dragons, though they don't seem to be too tough - and I have downgraded my weapons and armor in order to up lower skills (light armor and 1-handed, instead of heavy armor and 2-handed). The only dragons that are tough are the ancient dragons, and th toughest fight I had with them was at the College of Wizardry when it was one ancient dragon and 3 mercs out to "teach me a lession." (I guess I pissed someone off. Yippie!!!)

You need to try your best to overpower your character early on, and make him weaker later, if you do that you receive balance.
Me though, I like being an epic beast so level high up and beat the [censored] out of stuff. I'm only on Adept though. Seriously, it shouldn't be hard, if you find it too hard find better armour or put your difficulty down.
I'm only using an enchanted glass sword and varying from glass, steel plate, iron, imperial, and elven armours and I pwn elder dragonz.

There are certain points that trigger the dragon random encounters. Prior to this quest mentioned there are no random encounters.
Spoiler
later on in the MQ you also get to a point that stops random encounters till this part of the MQ is completed

What build are you using? If you're a destruction mage on master you could be in for some trouble.

This is not Oblivion, no starting points where the enemy start to spawn.
Alduin interfered in your execution, naturally he will fly around raising other dragons no mater that you do.
More of an problem, you are to weak for your level, this is an major issue with leveled enemies.

Base attack damage from a Elder Dragon is like 500 to 600, kind of forget but it's much higher then his health. So he needs a ton of armor or to run like a [censored] when they land which is my solution lol.

Op if you don't like Elder dragons just wait until you se an Ancient. I had to adjust a lot just to survive long enough to know what killed me lol. Several times it was cue music, hear dragon roar then load screen lol.

You're wrong. If you don't turn that dragon stone in to the court wizard on whiterun you won't see any dragons. I went all the way to level 35 without fighting a dragon.

Well, what can I say? You're wrong. You will not see any random Dragons until you kill the one on Estern Watch Tower. I don't know if there will be Dragons at Peaks, though.

Base attack damage from a Elder Dragon is like 500 to 600

Bite of an Elder Dragon is 225. Ancient Dragon does 300 Bite damage. Either way he should be fine even with no armor at all.

Glad to hear that but my lvl 49 still can be gulped / one shotted by an ancient. I was even, once, taken out one shot by the tail.

Approaching 300 health, with a bunch of boosting as most went on magicka, forgot to heal once, so was on about three quarters, bite and throw finish, gone. Good. Still a bit of challenge at level 40+.
Or so I thought 'til one killed my horse. Worst moment since the stray dog died. Why couldn't a load of lightning bolts from me, and arrows from Kharjo and a passing hunter get it to land, but the second the horse finally decides she wants to fight it's there on the ground? Langer.
