Empire or Stormcloaks #2000

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 9:49 pm

I always enjoy these threads, so I thought I'd start the next one.

Which do you side with Empire or Stormcloaks?

My character won't pick a side, but he is frustrated with the Empire....

So, which are you?

My Breton was neutral for quite a while, seeing a good deal of justification in the Stormcloaks' purpose. However, that purpose will inherently weaken both themselves and the Empire and allow the Thalmor to take control. With Skyrim fighting for the Empire, they may just have a chance to overturn the White-Gold Concordant and return things to normal. The Empire does need reform, and High Rock and Hammerfell have some good political systems to learn from.

In addition, the Stormcloaks seem just a tad too xenophobic underneath it all. Strict immigration policies are fair under their own provincial government, but with the Stormcloaks leading such a move it could turn to something much more extreme in time.

My characters tend to go for the empire mostly because I've always been a loyal supporter, even as a Telvanni I still support them and I always will.

Well, we're not over 9000 yet so we still got a ways to go!

I'm more of a traditionalist at heart, so I'm with the Stormcloaks. I'd rather them stay the rough and tumble barbarians who make for better friends than politicians, rather than them just becoming the Northern Empire.

I still don't really see the stormcloaks as a barbarian army, more of an underfunded one.

I still don't really see the stormcloaks as a barbarian army, more of an underfunded one.

Nords have always been the "barbarian" race of TES, the axe wielding heavy drinking northerners that they are. It's not like I'm saying it in a derogatory way. I mean their way of life as a whole, not just their pocketbooks.

Look at the whole reason this Civil war is happening. Ulfric used the Nord tradition of the strongest leads to kill the High King. The banning of Talos is HUGE too, because a thousand years ago the Nords wouldn't have stood for it. Every last man, woman, and child would have stormed towards the Elves ready to give their lives on the battlefield. But things are changing. The Empire brought many of it's lucturies up north when everything settled, and now after all these years the Nords have grown accustomed to it.

It's like the "old gamers" and the "casuals" arguement you ALWAYS see here. The Stormcloaks are afraid that their way of life that they love, as rough as it is, is going away for good, while the Empire just wants to move on so that it can get ready for the next great battle vs the Thalmor. Is the Empire wrong in that a united Tamriel is better for everyone? No, but at the same time they're trying to erase the cultures of the other races to make the gears of the Empire spin easier. Are the Stormcloaks wrong for wanting to protect their way of life? No, but at the same time they can't deny that the new way is better overall for their people or that holding onto the past isn't healthy for anyone.

Mainly I support the stormcloaks because the Empire is at a much worse strategic disadvantage. With all the justiciars roaming the empire, they've got intel on everything. If you've played any sort of strategy game, you know how important intel is.(Especially in games like Starcraft where there's hard counters to units.) Scouting your enemy allows you to learn troop positions, isolate parts from itself and move your own forces without interruption. The Empire only survived because of faulty intel. It makes and breaks battles. The empire's trying to play the longgame with the Thalmor. The type of people that excel at long term strategies. This is the worst idea they could've ever come up with. The longer they wait, the worse it's going to be when they finally do get around to repealing the WGC(Assuming they ever do)

LOL @ the thread title and the OP's login. Good one.

I have a Stormcloak, a legion character, and two neutrals. Honestly I think it's better for Skyrim that the civil war be settled either way. But I would rather see the Nords rule themselves, and Cyrodiil be forced to find its balls again.

Proof that the worst the Stormcloaks do is Rolf's yelling:

Evidence suggesting that Dunmer are way more racist than anything Imperial players can suggest:

Those pictures show that the drunk guy in Windhelm is about the worst the dunmer endure and all he does is shout insults at them. If that's the worst immigrants have to endure, I doubt they have anything to worry about unless they don't want to get their feelings hurt.

I've always been a strong Stormcloak supporter because I dislike what the Empire has become, but I intend to do the Legion at least once.. question I'm asking myself is if I'll reload an earlier save to undo it though. I'd like the stormcloaks more if I had the option of helping my fellow Argonians in Windhelm.. unfortunately I never get one, but I suppose I can understand the situation from a nords point of view considering their history and all.

Skyrim is for the Nords!

Seriously though, as petty as I think Ulfric and his lot is, a lot of good sons and daughters of Skyrim fight for them, which makes me like them. Tullius is lame. The only worthy Legionaire is Rikke. I also disagree with Ulfric about his war against the Imperials. Instead of fighting the Imperials the Stormcloaks need to be fighting the Thalmor in country. Where Ulfric screwed up was killing Torygg. There is no honor in killing a man who clearly isn't on your same level, making Ulfric a chump.

They want the civil war to continue, though if one side were to win, they would indeed want the Stormcloaks to win.

Actually, no. The Thalmor would prefer the Empire to win. The Thalmor can control the Empire through the WGC. They can't control a free Skyrim.

I'd kill them all, single handedly, if I could, and take Tamriel for myself and start a real government. Rule those rebelious fools with an iron hand till they accept me as their god... just kidding. Well, not about the first part. I would take the Empire for myself. Kill the leaders of both factions and recruit those who accept my superiority, kill the ones who go hostile.

I'll use my awesomely awesome smithing skills of godliness to craft steel swords that do 200 some damage and armor that hits the cap for all my warriors. We will be unstoppable.

Not only that, but I'll have freaking werewolf army, being the Harbinger of Companions and all the yada yada hoo hoo. And a league of Assassins, to kill the whats left of the Elder Council and any other powerful political leaders. Aaannddd, a College of Mages, you know, to place enchantments on all my cities. And an underground corporation of Thieves, if I ever run into money problems.

I'll join with Hammerfell, while they fight the Thalmor, I'll march on the Imperial City. Once I have control, I'll send ambassadors to each province to bring back troops if they are with me. Then fight the Thalmor and eradicate them. Then deal with the provinces who did not have my back. After that we'll that a peaceful empire with no internal problems

I'll be the greats Listening Harbinger Mage of the Thieves to ever live, oh, and I'll be an Emperor.

But, If I must choose. The Stormcloaks.

Ulfric is only listed as asset because of his interrogation, (uncooperative) means he'll have nothing to do with them, and hates them, as you can see at the council on High Hrothgar, he refuses to sit until Elenwen is sent away or the Dragonborn allows her to stay, as he has respect for you.
