I decided to start playing oblivion again after 2 years so I popped into the forums to look for mod lists and I find this. Great list and I'm quite humbled that two of my mods are still on recomended lists after so many years. I do apologize for the fLightLOD2 thing tho, when I first released CAaN I never had this problem and did not get any bug report about it. Anyway thanks for the list, I'll be checking out these mods. Now I just need to find a lvl scaling and npc/monsters mod list.

Wow, sweet guide! I was just wondering if you can add Corepc's awesome Vibrant DistantLod and Texture enhancements mod?

To quote the OP: "The mods listed here do not add any new items or objects to the game, they do not change the landscape around you, they are not simply texture replacers. What they do do is change bits of the game to give it a different atmosphere. Many players will find that they do not need a mod to change an aspect listed here, and that is to be expected - the need for such mods is personal."

Bump for this useful thread and query regarding 'Lights Out'. Not sure why it's not compatible with 'Real Light'. Seems to work fine for me, adding realism in caves and dungeons. 'Lights out' makes lights coming through openings disappear from 7PM to 7AM. RL removes some lights but without LO there is still light coming from openings during the night. Two examples:

http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/3580/screenshot47k.jpg
http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/3985/screenshot48u.jpg

http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/3954/screenshot50p.jpg
http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/3112/screenshot52w.jpg
http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/5735/screenshot51xyy.jpg
If there is a similar pattern in other caves and dungeons why RL and LO are not supposed to be used together?

First of all thanks for the great discussion. Now let's go with some question.

This is my list of Environment Mod:
Weather - All Natural v. 0.9.6 + Rainbows in Tamriel 3.0

Animated Window Lighting System and Chimneys v. 5.1.6
Let There Be Darkness v. 1.2

Really AEVWD v. 1.5 + TES4LODGen v. 2.2.2

Enhanced Water v20 HDMI v. 1.0

Visually Relistic Lava v. 1.0

Oblivion Stereo Sound Overhaul v. 0.9
Storms and Sound v3 lightning for all weathers v. 3.0

I think that they can work togheter, right?
My question is for the last sounds mod:
1. More Immersive Sound (MIS)
2. Atmospheric Oblivion (AO)
3. Audia Arcanum (AA)
4. Symphony Of Violence
5. Ambient Town Sounds
Which one can be used togheter?

They all can and should be used together, apart from Atmospheric Oblivion and Audia Arcanum, as AA includes AO. However, AA also changes a lot of sounds in ways that you may not like, so in that case you can always just use AO.

For instance, I use this install order:

OSSO
MIS
AO/AA
Symphony Of Violence
Ambient Town Sounds
Storms & Sounds

This ensures that OSSO's sounds are used as a base, which is then improved upon by the other mods, with S&S last to make sure you get it's awesome thunder sounds.

EDIT: I'm going to update this list at some point with some music mods, when I get time.

Ok, thx for the information!

As I said I don't speak english very well, but please can you check the description for the sound mods? You wrote: "The next three mods can then only be used one at a time, and the same goes for the last two." so I tought that Symphony Of Violence & Ambient Town Sounds wasn't compatible togheter...

Anyway thx for this great topic!

EDIT:

Don't know if this can help you, but I use this mods for the music:

Ultimate Music Pack 1.0 - http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=2936

Oblivion Symphonic Variations Music Suite v. 1.0 - http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11436

Silent Tracks Expanded v. 1.0 - http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12909

EDIT 2: there are two fix for alive waters: (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20698, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25511).

@ Ruben3D: Yes, the intro there is mistaken, I must have added SoV and ATS later, I meant AA and AO. I'll change that for my next revision.

I'm not using Lights Out with Real Lights, but it appears that they are compatible, I was under the impression that Real Lights already did what Lights Out does. It certainly does in the All Natural updated version, and that's what I use, and is vastly improved over the original, even just counting the lack of save-game bloat, and none of the fixes/extensions.

So I'd recommend you use the All Natural version. I'll change this to reflect the compatibility with the older version in my next revision too.

Thanks for the music links, I've got a big compilation of several myself, but I'll check those out too.

@ Corepc: Thanks for the link. :)

So if I'll use All Natural with the new "Real light" I don't need Lights Out? I hope so, because I think that's always better to have not to many similar mods, but I really like the features of lights out (no fake lights in dungeons).

P.S. When you will add now mods in the first post, can you please write a little "History" section? So it will be more easy for us to know wich are the new mods..

EDIT: I forgot something. Have you read the comment of gemcast for the Audia Arcanum? Do you think I will have problem with Better Cities?

Yes, if you use All Natural - Real Lights, you shouldn't need Lights Out. I'd ask Arthmoor to clarify this though, as he's the one working on it.

Adding a history sounds good, I usually just list changes in an update/bump post.

EDIT: I don't know. I've never really used BC. You may do, in which case you'll probably just have to revert to using Atmosheric Oblivion. But you don't know till you try.

I have to ask. What kind of performance hit are we talking about with Real Lights? It sounds like a great mod but I'm at a point where while everything is playable now much more of a hit and my game just wont be.

What computer are you using, and what is your mod setup? (rhetorical question)

I can't tell you what kind of hit you'd get. It depends on the above, you'll just have to try it out for yourself to find out.

RL comes with a hefty preformance hit, only near light sources. If you dont want any decreses in performance than dont use it.
But asthetically speaking, Real LIghts makes oblivion awesome, and is well worth the hit :)

Hey wrinkly,

I've said it before; I'll say it again. Great resource.

Only suggestion I can come up with is:

Finniksa abandoned the List of Lists back in February and it has now been picked up by Cliffworms @ http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1010109&hl=

Cliffworms is doing an excellent job of keeping the whole thing updated and deserves some credit for the effort.

Update:

- Updated descriptions for Enhanced Weather and All Natural a bit to reflect changes - EW's modularity and AN's SI support, basically.
- Updated Lighting Mods section, particularily the intro, on what mods should not be used together, and the descriptions for the first 5 mods. Particularily cleared up compatibility between Lights Out and Real Lights, and Real Lights' issues and the All Natural alternative.
- Cleared up compatibility between sound mods.

I'm still thinking of adding a Music section, though I've got to do a bit of research and testing for that. And I need to make sense of the confusion that is music mods.

Many thanks for this list. It's very useful as I'm setting up All Natural and it was a long time ago I used weather mods at all, so it was nice to have concise descriptions of them. :foodndrink:
