Everybody so open to Homosixuality

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 1:04 pm

I feel like the homosixual characters in this game are almost comical at times. They practically scream out to you about their love of the same six whenever they get the opportunity, as if it is some extension on their personality. I swear to God, I wanted to punch this doctor in the face because every damn time I talked to him he would hit on me. Even in today's society, where most people are highly educated and not blind to most of the world, being homosixual isn't so nonchalantly discussed. In fact, there is virtually no human prejudice at all in this game or the last, which seems heavily unrealistic to me. I have absolutely no problem with subtly hinting at being homosixual, like Arcade does, or maybe a companion opening up over time. It seems more realistic than, say, that woman at Camp McCarren who basically screams at you I LOVE [censored].

Or maybe you just have selective attention. There's basically only one character in the game world who is open about it. And it's noted by others that she's behaving inappropriately with how she handles it.

Two characters have to be friends before they'll talk about it. And virtually all other homosixual dialogue requires you to flirt with them first.

Realistic? But are you perfectly ok with
Spoiler
Ghouls flying off in a rocket ship to a place with no prejudice (wherever they think that is).

There are so many different kinds of people in the world...I'd rather have some escapism to a world that has less bigotry. And who knows, maybe it'll help the world be a little less bigoted. :)

Just my 2 Septims...I mean bottlecaps.

By the way, the perk Confirmed Bachelor, does that one open up dialogue options for gay NPC's?

If by friends you mean "HEY VERONICA COME WITH ME"
"OK"
"OH BY THE WAY I LIKE WOMEN"
"OH OK."

She will reveal it to you right off the bat if you ask her. There are many other characters too, such as the gay doctor in camp forlorn hope as well as generic npc dialogue and...*shudder*...the Gomorrah ghouls...

Agreed with Tales, You will only notice it if you have been trying to get it by using the comfirmed bachlor perk.
Or if your close friends with them.

Yea, its nice that fallout is non bigot for homosixuality.

I honestly don't see what the problem is, fallout is diverse just like real life.

You should spend a weekend in Long Beach, CA.

So far the gay dialoge that I have come across the people were hush hush about it (confirmed bachelor perk). I havent talked to those people yet.

Veronica mentions she fell in love with a woman... once. And only after you've been companions long enough to open the dialogue.

Amd surprise surprise, Vegas prosttutes aren't picky.

It's set in the future - I like the fact that everyone has gotten over it. It's no more in your face than all those characters going on about their (opposite six) husbands and wives, you may just notice it more because it is still seen as "not the norm". There are far more straight characters being flippantly honest about their opposite six partnerships than there are about same six ones.

By companions long enough, do you mean the trip to the Lucky 38 from the trading outpost? Because that is how long it took me.

And about the Vegas prosttutes, it isn't because the vegas prosttutes aren't picky, it is just how nobody cares about it. Male Vegas citizens will openly go into a public male Gomorrah show. I would understand and think it would be very clever if the player got deeper into the private sections of Gomorrah and you started seeing that.

Uh, I don't know what circles you walk in but in mine homosixuality is absolutely openly discussed and I know no homosixuals who aren't extremely open and obvious about it. I mean, maybe if you don't live in a major metropolitan area you wouldn't be used it but every city I've ever lived in NY, LA and now Providence, RI it's extremely open. Hell, we just elected an openly gay governor who prior to that was mayor of Providence.

The Brotherhood is pretty anti-gay but it's more in the way old China was only concerned with the duty of family, or in the Brotherhood's case their nearly sole source of new recruits. Ceasar's Legion seems like it would be into the purity mentality that goes with anti-homosixuality as well, although some remark that there may be something a little Spartan to their battlefield comradery...

Exactly! People are more concerned with survival than "teh gay." Seriously people, how is this a problem for you? How homophobic do you have to be to complain about references to homosixual characters in a game that depicts characters in bdsn outfits and black nipble tape?

Sheesh, they've got bigger problems. Who cares who you fancy? They probably figure that what with all the Fiends and Deathclaws running about, life's too short to spend it in the closet.

I just noticed you're from NJ. Do you never go into Manhattan? Have you never been to Chelsea or the Village?

The Confirmed Bachelor Perk has a few unique dialogue options that generally make things easier with homosixual characters. Here's a link to the wiki page that details all known uses of the perk.

On the topic of gay characters, stop being such a bigot, gay people are everywhere and there will be gay people everywhere for the rest of forever.

I understand. I never said homosixuallity is as taboo as it used to be.

But please, if you are honestly going to tell me that it doesn't have a stigma in many different communities, then I really don't know what world you're in.

What inherent flaw?

I dont see the OP being a bigot at all. I see him comparing what he has experienced in life to what is happening in the game.

Why cant people ask questions about homosixuality with out being insulted?

Homophobia and fear of difference. Although you still see quite a bit of that in the plight of Ghouls. EDIT: And Super-Mutants! Almost forgot about them.

I suppose the OP can wait to see how New Canaan and the land of the Mormons treats homosixuality if he wants to see that aspect of humanity.
