Expect lots of Killzone2 players

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:00 pm

One of KZ2's designers, Neil Alphonso is now on BRINK.
KZ3 is a good game, but balance is off, and many players feel betrayed by changes that are meant to mimic Call of Duty.
Brink is an objective/class-based shooter somewhat similar to KZ2.

Because of these reasons I think BRINK will attract a lot of Killzone2 players, that is if the give it a chance. Sure the scale of Brink is much smaller, but the class system and teamwork aspects so far seem way better.

I've never played KZ2 multiplayer. I know it's team-based but do people work well together or do they just go Rambo? If the KZ2 players do work together well then that just means increased playability for Brink.

Killzone 2 was alright. The controls were really weird. Like, even on the highest sensitivity, the game still felt sluggish. Kind of a bummer considering that KZ2 was one of the reasons I even bought a PS3.

What's so great about Brink, is that all the bad COD players out there will not stay on long when they realize that you can't play Brink like COD. Don't get me wrong or anything. I love COD (MW1 and MW2 anyways) and I will always play COD as long they keep making them worth my time. But, it's going to be so great to get into a match and not have to worry about tubers and quick-scopers when Brink comes out. :twirl:

KZ2's weighty controls really turned me off at first. Plus there was the fact that it was really hard game compared to what I was use to (At the time, the only shooter I had experience in was MW2). The controls really grew on me though, KZ3 has lighter controls but the weight is still there. Personally I love the weight.
I think its to simulate realism of being a soldier carrying heavy equipment and armor. Plus Helghan's gravity is much higher than that of Earth, but yeah, I can understand why many people hated it.

Well... Killzone 2 (and then 3) pretty much took the ET classes 1 for 1.

I never really noticed the controls at the begining, nor did i mind it at all, then i hear people saying its to annoying or something, it was just fine with me.

Anyways, i would like to see some KZ2 players come here, but just because that developer joined the SD team, wont really mean people will switch over to here, and since SD is just balancing the hell out of brink, i really do hope he does not mess it up like KZ3 is messed up.

For the most part, yea, jsut that KZ3 is insainly unbalanced, and KZ2 had a soldier class where you can use (almost) all the weapons but have no special abilitys, and the assault class (dont know if its in KZ3) where people would use the rocket launcher and run into crowds defending an objective and blow themselves, along with everyone else, up, which was very annoying. Other then that, it's like ET

Is he ~now~ or was he when the game was actually being developed?

The BRINK controls do feel similar to KZ2, though. Or perhaps KZ3.

Don't really see why we'll get a bunch of KZ players just because one of it's map designers is on the dev team.

Gamers follow favored developers, always have. I don't know KZ2 well enough to know how influential this guy is, but if he's known to have been "The Guy" behind a particular map or mechanic, there will be players who follow.

Is it going to be a bad thing, because I don't know KZ2 so I don't know the kinds of players that play it?

Not at all. They (we'll, me included) are quite friendly and if they play KZ2, there is a very high chance that they hate COD.

So you can expect all of them to be pretty chill and all for teamwork because it was a teamwork focused game.

So its going to be a good thing.

What make controls "weighty". How do they comapare to COD's controls? I'm a little lost.

Its hard to explain, Ever played BATTLEFIELD: Bad Company 2? Its kind of like that but more. You can find the old KZ2 demo in the Playstation Store and and try it for yourself.

Ohhhhhhhh, THAT guy. I saw him commenting a lot on the Splash Damage Brink forum and that's how I find out about more in-depth information about the game. He seems like a pretty cool guy. ^_^

Killzone 2 single-player-mode is the only thing I have played, but I know there are classes in the multiplayer mode (I would LOVE to have been a Medic, hee) like Brink and ET have. :)
From what I have heard, it seemed like Killzone 2 multiplayer has a bit of a teamwork thing there, so it's all good.

I love the game and all, but ugh, the "sluggish"/"weighty" feel of the guns took me some severe getting used to, especially after most other "light-feeling" guns of CoD: Modern Warfare, Metroid Prime 3, and Borderlands, lol. :D I have to go really slow and my aim was already horrible in FPS games, so the slowness just made it even worse sometimes, lol. ;)

Don't know why the weighty-controls gives everyone a hard time, i found it to be perfectly fine and didn't even notice it when i first played, it's very odd, o well

BTW The medic class is the first class you unlock in KZ2 :3
Tactician was my fav, engineer my second, i was all like CALL IN SENTRY BOT PEW PEW PEW!

How does the fact that it has one KZ2 designer and it is objective based mean that KZ2 players will be attracted to Brink? That's like saying that MW2 players will be interested in the game because it has silenced shotguns or that Mario players will be interested in Brink because it has platforming...

Did you play Killzone 2 before any CoD games maybe? Or maybe you just took it as its own unique game with its own controls and just.... went with the flow? :D

For me....maybe it's because I played the Wii version of both Modern Warfare and Metroid Prime 3 games and thus, anything non-wii felt a little weird at first for me, lol?
