Explosion in Oslo, Norway

Post » Sat Jul 23, 2011 6:09 am

I live about 10 km from the area where the bomb exploded, and I could hear it very loud. It must have been a gigantic explosion. Also reports on shooting in another city in a Labour Party camp. Don't know if it is connected yet.
Edit: The Prime Minister of Norway are a member of the Labour Party.
Edit 2: 2 dead, 15 wounded so far. Probably more wounded at Ut?ya (where the Labour Party camp is).
Edit 3: Media say its more people who are dead inside the buildings.
Edit 4: TV2 say several people dead at Ut?ya.

Local authorities have now confirmed the explosion was caused by a bomb and NOT an accident. Very unfortunate.

I live in Oslo myself, 2-3 kilometres from the blast, my windows started shacking for some seconds and then a huge blast. Unbelivable that it was a terrorist attack.

A guy dressed as a cop has also started shooting civillians on a island called Ut?ya. Some people are trying to swim away. Around 3-4 people have been shot. http://www.dagbladet.no/2011/07/22/nyheter/utoya/terror/oslo/17415425/

Apparently he uses a machinegun/automatic weapon. 4 people dead so far. Absolutely awful...

This was a camp for the youth-division of the Labour Party, so the victims could be very young... TV2 say the shooter is a white, blond male.

According to NRK, the police has arrested one person at the camp.

Here we go again. From Russia to Spain to East Africa to the US to India. I know the forum rules against certain controversial subjects so I won't speculate on the culprits probably commonality (but I'm sure you know what I'm thinking).

That's depressing. Seems like there's no country safe from terrorism now, it's like a global disease. :/

edit: I feel very sad for all who lost their lives and their familes and friends :(

I also saw the reports, can't make any assumptions, can't get into politics here. but the compass is pointing to the same heading as Alaisiage mentioned.
My condolences to those who lost their loved ones and family members. Very sad news indeed.

I don't know what to think. *snip* [these are just facts, but I don't know whether I can state these, it'd be stupid to get the banhammer for that] This doesn't make any sense.

EDIT: As posted by Krigaren eg ikkje kjende, there are at least two confirmed causalties.

Make that seven (bombing) plus four (shooting).

Horrible news indeed. I don't even understand what they hoped to accomplish, besides rattle the nerves of every Norwegian and their surrounding neighbors. This will only come back and bite them in the ass. My condolences to those who were affected by this bombing, and to those who will undoubtedly be affected by this in the months to come. If it was Al-Qaeda, they'll just end up making it harder for innocent Muslims or people of middle-eastern decent living out there, causing a spike in racism as it did in the US after 9/11 when people started going out and targeting Muslims or people they thought were Muslims. Hopefully those responsible will be apprehended as soon as possible and the whole post-bombing racism brought on by fear can be avoided. What a terrible mess.

That may very well be the primary or even only reason.

Oh, come on.

Judging by where the bomb went off, I'd say they were hoping for a little bit more than they got. Still, seven people dead so far is terrible news.

Innocent people are innocent people. If some guy comes in and shoots my mother, I'm not going to go to his mother's house who had nothing to do with it and shoot her.

Compensation by the blood of the innocent for the blood of the innocent spilled? Those are some of Al-Qaeda's methods and motives.
