Patches (0-day and otherwise) have been a part of gaming forever. Hell, even old console games (snes, etc) had bugs that needed patching, and they couldn't be fixed until MUCH later due to the fact it was on read-only media!
I don't disagree. As I said though they have 'become' a crutch. Sure there were games that needed patching....but I never played a nes game, or a xbox game, or any other sort of game that it was possible to level up in, and NOT been able to level. My point being before the widespread use of online patches developers had no choice but to take the time needed to make a game, test, test, and retest it and THEN release it because if it svcked that was the end. No patches, no firmware updates....if you made a shoddy product people knew it, heard about it, and avoided it like the plague. Now a developer can put out a game too soon to meet their deadline...or whatever reason it was put out early, and get away with it. Thats all I'm saying.
