Fallout New Britain Mod?

Post » Thu May 26, 2011 9:45 pm

There's an awful lot of information to trawl through to find anything like this, which I've had no luck with so far. I wanted to know if there is any team out there working on some sort of european mod for either of the Fallout games? I'm sure it's been brought up before, I've just never seen any actual progress on it. Any info would be great.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

I would loove to goto europe in the fallout series one day. However the original fallout[s] are set in the us of a [lol] so it would be kind of weird to see the sudden change. Besides that I think there are thousands of other places that I still want to goto in the usa that I would love to see those first.

I don't see a problem with the idea.
After all, War of the Worlds was actually set in the UK but was converted twice to the USA.
The mod would just have to be done by modders who are familiar with the 'feel' of the UK.
The 'culture' of the UK as well as the colloquialisms.

It's an interesting idea. Using 50's post imperial Britain as a theme would kinda make for an entirely different 'feel' for the fallout universe that could be interesting. I can't help but think of the film When the Wind Blows.

Of course we would have to have proper voice actors because you bloody well can't do a mod like that with us Americans and our horrible mangling of the Queen's English ;)

Someone did try something similar for Fallout 3. And by 'try' I mean 'list a load of ambitious ideas with no ability to back them up'.

Ideas are easy. Implementing them is the opposite. Stop now because this isn't going to happen. There is no team, you are not going to get a team. Make a house or a shotgun that shoots mini nukes.

Good advice here, some of it anyway. Ignore the rest however. Start learning how to use the G.E.C.K. Start learning how to build the landscape. Once you have a landscape done, start dropping already in game assets into place to get an idea of how you want to lay it out. Show some work and that you are willing to work and you may attract others. Or you may not. Doesn't hurt to try.

I would love to be able to get my head around this!!!!!! - but im sure it will be a lot more then I can handle, but that dosnt mean that I wont try and start to think about it.

So G.E.C.K here I come, is there anywhere I should be looking for advice on making landscapes? As to start with that all I want to do. i.e. make a map of the area?

Reminded me of an interesting thing I heard.

British people back in the 1700s used to sound closer to what Americans sound like today, so it is actually the British who bastardized their own language into what it is today.

Still to big. Look up the Vault 74 tutorial by Bethesda.

Brits in the 1950s spoke very differently to how they speak today - though of course the same is true of Americans (noticed that on Mad Men). For example, aside from regional accents, most English people speak with a hybrid Thames Estuary accent like this:

Whereas in earlier times, people spoke more like this:

So you'd not only need someone to record the lines, but to affect the ultra-clipped received pronunciation of yesteryear.

(I just wanted to use the word "yesteryear". Fabulous, isn't it?)

A Fallout "New Britain" err mod would be interesting, but as indicated the fallout series takes place in the US and there are TONS of places and I do mean TONS of places to venture into. Personally I would want to see something done in New York City course with 911 happening and all that might be in bad taste even though it happened more than 8 years ago. Maybe something in the Sunshine state down in Miami or something in Arkansas or Alabama. Some may not believe it, but there's a lot of stuff in Alabama including an old rocket test area. My mom's father (my grandpa) worked for a company that made solid rocket boosters for NASA.

You must admit you lot are wrong on that one, at least. Pretty much every other element, even http://www.webelements.com/americium/, uses the -ium ending.

Ney York shouldn't be in bad taste. Hell, if anything, it could be a sort of respect.

Besides, the WTC wasnt designed till 1960, and wasnt constructed till 66, and completed in 1970, so it wouldn't be pat of the Fallout world really. Plus, it is already implied that millions, if not billions of people died in the war, so having the WTC at all IMHO wouldn't be disrespectful.

Perhaps it could even be the focus of the Ney York area? Home to most inhabitance as the main "city". lol That actually sounds rather interesting. An urban wasteland with 2 towers standing tall among the rubble, filled with life, and center of the new age in the area.

There's already a basic flooded New York worldspace done, up on nexus. Reasonably good, but just a worldspace. At least it's a jumping off point if anyone was going to try this time round.

There's only so many storylines you can do about the trouble at t'mill.

Unfortunately I work 50 hours weeks most weeks, so the time I'm not working I usually point towards doing web design for small local businesses, or, playing FONV now :P Maybe one day I'll have the time. Thanks for giving me the answers I wanted though guys. This is a project in need of a leader that probably won't ever surface. :(

What about molybdenum, tantalum, platinum, and lanthanum? ;)

In 1808 Sir Humphry Davy, the British chemist who discovered the metal, named it “alumium.” With just one “i” and an “ium” ending, it straddled the two competing versions we have today.

Four years later, however, Davy changed his mind and gave the metal the name “aluminum” (yup, the one-”i” American version). In his book Elements of Chemical Philosophy, published in 1812, Davy wrote, “As yet Aluminum has not been obtained in a perfectly free state. “

But later that same year other scientists decided “aluminum” didn’t sound sufficiently Latin[/u], so they began calling it “aluminium.” Here’s a quote from the Quarterly Review: “Aluminium, for so we shall take the liberty of writing the word, in preference to aluminum, which has a less classical sound.”

So there you have it, a British scientist originally changed it to aluminum but other scientists got snooty about it and decided aluminum didn't sound classy enough. As for me I'll stick with Humphry Davy's aluminum.

The Nehrim team might be good for making a German area Fallout. I don't think they're really planning on any more mods, but they have the skill and the familiarity with the engine. Nehrim was a VERY ambitious project and I think it probably burnt that group of modders out, at least in a team sense. Somebody could suggest it on the SureAI forums :)
