lol, really, the .dll file fixed it? I used that a long time ago to help with nvidia specific stutter but haven't needed it in a while. I remember that patch 1.1 made it so some people didn't need the dll fix anymore, but I still did...it wasn't until patch 1.2 that I could get rid of it. Glad it worked for you so you can play!

The patches have definitely been strange that way tho. Like the hand-loader gun 'freeze' bug. I didn't have it originally at all, then they fixed it in one patch and I suddenly had it. They fixed it again later and it went half-away for me. Stuff like that. Computers....nutty things.
