PS3 user here... Yeah my game freezes every now and again but if you get the patches the game isn't so buggy. BUY IT, it's great

My PS3 Fallout freezes every hour or so some days, but never some other days.

I have also discovered that it only really seems to crash in the New Vegas part and its fine up until then.

Its definitely worth getting. Remember, if you get it now there have been two software patches since release, so you will be playing it in a more stable form than we did back in October.

I've had maybe 5-10 freezes, requiring a hard restart of the console. Thats the worst bug I've encountered. I can live with geckos getting stuck in rocks.

I said you saying "that the PS3 version of the game runs better then the PC version of the game running on Alienware" is rude. You were also jumping to conclusion.

YES YES YES!!!! don't get me wrong, it is a great game! But NOT worth the constant freezing!!! I never having a freezing issue, Fallout New Vegas is the only game that gives me trouble and I own about 9 other games. Great game but my Fallout freezes about 2-3 times a day and I am so over it. I am officially done playing this POS. It will break your system

I'm on the PS3 and have owned the game since day one, and I would echo the positives here - sure it crashes/lags a bit here and there but it is definitely worth it! It is one of the best games I have ever owned.
I've also had it for the PC (pre patches) which I thought was a bit too buggy at the time - although my PC isn't a high-flier, it was within the recommended specs and capable of running the game - but maybe I'll try it again with the patches.

Incidentally, due to losing my temper a week ago (because of several freezes and losing a great deal of work) I pulled the plug out the back of my PS3, out of sheer frustration (NOT RECOMMENDED), after which I had a very serious problem - Error 8003051E - and lots of other problems.

I have since reformatted the HD and restored the system and re-installed the game (with patch 1.03) and used a previous save from before and now the game runs beautifully, way better than it did, even after patch 1.03.
I've had about 20 or so hours since the restore and have seen no crashes yet (I would have certainly expected to have seen one or two by then)

So I would recommend doing a full system restore if you've had lots of glitches - it might just clean up your system enough for it to run clean - just remember the three golden rules:

I think that there are really only two sound pieces of advice in reply to this kind of question:

1.) Rent the game and try it before you buy.
2.) Whether you rent or buy, save and save often.


As someone else mentioned, FO:NV reacts differently for different people.
No matter what one person says ... whether it's "This game runs perfect!" or "This game crashes/freezes every 10 minutes!" or something in between ... there will be another person with the opposite experience.
Do yourself a favour and rent (or borrow) the game before you run out and buy it.

I wouldn't recommend *any* version of Fallout NV at all. Not until its fixed at least...paid release price for a sack of bricks. So very disappointed.

I'm about 40 hours in an have received one system crash and experienced lagging occasionally. It's still one of the best games I have ever played and as long as I don't run into a brick wall with it crashing constantly, it's a must buy.

WWaaiitt! Get the game of the year, I promise its the correct course of action if buggs and glitches bother you even in the slightest! Its swiss cheese for now and there will never be a more polished version than the G.o.t.Y edition.

I have personally struggled with resisting the hype, but then I just come back in here and realise I have made the proper decision. Clearly.

If you dont mind buggs, freezing or general instabilities go4 it why not? Buggs don't bother me in general but the buggs in Fall Out just hit a nerve because its so much like Oblivion yet on the same page it works far less. I just can't jive with that. Even understanding there are differences between the two its hard to accept in light of this for me.

(!!Have not tried 1.04, but don't feel I even need to judged by what I read in here!!)

Get Killzone 3 (way more violent and satisfying then nv, I gouged out a mans eyes. O.O) or LBP 2 (i mean its lbp2 do i have to explain?) or bullet storm (foot + butt = head shot) or wait for goty nv (maybe fixed key word is maybe) or preorder inFamous 2 or Dragon Age 2 (these 2 games alone will kill my social life -_-'')
thats just my 2 cents and honestly nv is like a modded out version of fallout 3.
P.S. i own Fallout New Vegas all its cost me is a 500 gig hhd and heart ache also i have all the fallout 3 dlc so I'm not bias just pissed.
Also lbp2, killzone 3, bullet storm, and dragon age 2 have demos so try before you buy.

I've had both saves I've started lock up my system before the tutorial was finished.

I've had my system lock up at least 20 times.

I've had my system crash immediately to the XMB from in game.

I've had enemies stuck in the ground.

I have the game hiccuping with mini-freezes every 5 seconds while walking through the wasteland.

Is this what you expect out of a brand new PS3 game that is the sequel to a GOTY? Buy it used, there should be tons of copies at every store from everyone who made the mistake of paying full price for this game.

On my PS3 it probably hard-freezes [requiring it to be turned off via the standby button] every 2 hours of play approximately, and freezes for like 10 seconds more often. But it is still worth buying :fallout:

Only buy this game if you like being frustrated and having to re-start your console every half-hour or so. Each and every time I re-start my PS3 due to the game freezing I hate the game and the companies that make the game a little more.

No New Vegas is worth buying, I have had a lot of problems with both fallout 3 and New Vegas but with my experience with the game I have discovered a way to cut down on the crashes. I have been playing the game , by that I mean at least three or four hours a day for about a month now; sometimes six or seven hours a day and have had the game crash ONCE.

DO NOT PAUSE THE GAME. I noticed that all the crashes occured after I left the game paused for short or even extended periods of time.

If you stop playing to go to the toilet perhaps just leave the game as it is or enter a building where there are no enemies. If you are doing something that may take a while save the game, exit and eject the disc(do not leave the disc in the ps3 as this may cause the game to crash when you start playing later).

As I have said before the game has only crashed once in a month and that is because I have not left the game paused. (Playing fallout 3 game of the year does not count because that f&*@er will crash no matter what)

Not worth it unless you like regularly power cycling your ps3.

After watching my girlfriend spend what seems to be half the time she plays FO:NV restarting the game or waiting at ridiculously long load times I don't think I could in good conscience recommend this game to anyone.

It's too bugged! I'm finally giving up and going to buy Fo3 GOTY, never did play all the ad- on stuff but if it runs smooth (which it did before DLC, for me anyway) I can't stand the constant freezing. I shut down the Ps3 today 3 times because the game crashed! Sony emailed me yesterday and said that constantly shutting off yous Ps3 MAY damage it. Obsidian ---- no email back yet!

Horribly buggy, I recommend not buying it until Bethesda does their freakin job and fixes!

Actually the GotY version of FO3 is much more buggy than the non-GotY. It was a pain to finish for me, I had to ditch my companions and do other lame a*s s*it to be able to finish (including just doing the bare minimum in the DLCs), and it was still buggy like hell. But perhaps you can reload after each DLC before going to the next since it gets worse when the save file gets bigger.

I have both the ordinary and the GotY version of FO3 and when I replay the game in the future it's going to be the ordinary.

The NV fiasco is terribly disappointing. I really thought they were going to get their act together and not repeat old mistakes, but I was the one mistaken. At this point the disappointment is going to last even if they do fix it.

Unfortunate! Dragon Age 2? Meh.....

In all honesty, I think it's still worth buying on PS3, although I have been vacillating on this issue since I bought the game.

The bugs are frequent, and freezing issues are actually worse than they were for FO3, and are as bad as the Point Lookout add-on before the patch. If you wander around for more than 10 minutes in the wastes, some areas will bog the processor down, and movement will be painfully slow and choppy, making doing anything very difficult and frustrating. This tends to happen in particular if you engage in a quest-related battle in which you are fighting numerous enemies after wandering around. Furthermore, sometimes when fast-traveling to, or entering a location on the other side of a door, VATS will be unresponsive for several seconds until the processor catches up, even though nearby enemies will attack at normal speed.

Another issue I have with FO New Vegas is that pathing is more resticted, i.e. there are several places that should be accessible, but aren't, since invisible barriers appear not just at the edges of the map, but all over the place, and often in places that make no sense. Which brings me to another issue: there is a huge portion of the map (in the west) that is completely inaccessible (so why include it?)...this sort of thing tends to drive players who enjoy "prospecting" quite mad. And the coup de grace is that Obsidian continues to punish players who complete the game. In a game filled with loot, weapons, locations, NPCs, etc. that aren't necessarily part of the main storyline, it's a travesty (in my eyes) to completely restrict you from continuing with your game after you've completed one of the end-game quests. I mean even GTA games let you run around after you're finished, even thought there's far less to do in those games than in FO games.

However, with all of its flaws, FO New Vegas is still enjoyable, especially if you enjoyed FO3. New weapons and ammo, as well as the ability to have a mechanized companion in addition to you human companion make gameplay even more fun than in FO3. If you don't have a problem with being vigilant in your saves, you should have a good time with this game.

Psh. Dragon Age? Don't bother. First one wasn't even that good. Environments are small, restrictive, and mostly non-interactive. NPCs and the interactions therewith feel contrived and unrewarding. Battle dynamics are stilted and awkward. Felt more like a watered-down version of Oblivion to me.

New Vegas still has hard core freezes. But that shouldn't stop you from buying it. I got pissed @ the game for freezing so i sold New Vegas and now i regret selling it. D:
