Falmer Dungeons incredibly atmospheric

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 4:26 pm

...wut?

I found the dwemer ruins to be the most colorful, especially when there were also Falmer (and their associated color pallette) inside.. Certainly more colorful than the nordic ruins.

And you certainly can't get more vivid than Blackreach...
I have not found Blackreach yet and everybody keeps saying how amazing it is.
I dislike the dwemer ruins. Everything is one color. Blah...

Most other dungeons to me, though, are incredible.

Can't believe some people think dungeons are drab.
I think there is a lot of variety to those dungeons, then you get them combined with the Falmer dungeons.

Me neither.

Well. the Falmer armor isn't in the Falmer's inventory. I found it laying out on a table in a Falmer ruin, but I can't remember where.
You can smith it at Skyforge.

I went into a small unassuming cave north of riften on a sloping hill because I found a bandit's note saying there might be loot in there...

It turned into a 45 minute dungeon crawl through 3 or 4 levels of shattered dwemer ruins and winding caves filled with swarms of falmer and their pets - just big enough to be epic, traps, great set piece scenes (Like one chamber that'd been tipped 45 degrees by tectonic forces) and the remains of a lost refugee caravan - and their ultimate fate.

When we finally got back out, beaten, bruised and weighed down with bits of dead falmer and glowing mushrooms -and this pitiful dwarven mace that'd lured me in there. I looked back at this non-descript cave entrance with my bored and hungry looking horse sat patiently in the middle of nowhere thinking "What just happened" xD - small nondescript caves are meant to be small and nondescript xD

In the cave i was describing I found a caravan's contents that'd been turned out and being sorted... all the books were dumped in a heap with the empty bags - the falmer can't read, they're blind xD

Thought that was a ncie bit of attention to detail

The Charus are ridiculously strong. The first time I saw one I thought it would be like a slightly stronger skeever, but then I realized it dropped half of my health in one hit...
Yeah it's ridiculous.2 charus reapers can kick your ass.I already saw a Charus on the surface killing some poor horker's.Now about the topic. There's a cave where the companions telled me to go to rescue a guy(Lol 100 gold for for that was like a suicide mission).About 3 hours fighiting Legions of Falmers,Charus and Spiders, i finnaly finded the guy i said "Thank god,no more creep elfs".

The falmer are definatly the "end game enemy class". Even at level 50 with 550 armour/250 health, a direct hit off a shadowmaster can knock 60-80% off my health, and reapers sometimes one-hit me (Though I don't have much excuse for getting hit by reapers)

I epecially hate the shaman ones though, they deal a ridiculous amount of damage, almost like the master vampires/necromancers

I laughed at the loading screen that spoke of how dangerous they are. Come to find out the screen did not lie...

Falmer are by-far a favorite enemy, second only to dragons, and significently more dangerous. I love their lore, especially the first few times people started talking about the before I actually met them. But most of all, I love the irony that enemies seemingly based off of Tolkien's goblins, the pinnical 'mook', are so vicious and dangerous.

Imagine if they were organized, could see, or had high-quality armor/equiptment.

I like how each TES game has it's own classical critter. In Oblivion we had Goblins, then in Shivering Isles we had Grummites, now we have Falmers and Draugr. Dungeon crawling has never been this much fun, with all the nice designs and unique rewards (words of power).

Can't believe some people think dungeons are drab.

The Dwemer Ruins in Skyrim are vastly better designed and decorated than the Ayleid Ruins in Oblivion. I mean, in Skyrim's Ruins there is trash that is centuries and millenia old from when the Dwemer lived there. The Ayleid Ruins are vacant. It's almost like when the Aylieds fell, the Empire sent in Merry Maids to make sure that they were clean.

I like the look of the Dwemer sites because it actually looks like they used to be inhabited. Not just barren stone walls with some traps and Bandit clutter.

But far and away the Falmer sites, any of them, are some of my favorite dungeons to explore. I find myself doing a crawl through a normal dungeon and praying that it opens up into a network of Falmer Hive tunnels! My Dunmer Assassin is level 36, and most dungeons are a cake-walk for me. The Falmer are difficult enough that once again, I have to think of strategy for each room, and even have to plan the correct order of which enemy to take out when, and do I use a bow or my daggers?

It's the fact that they are so well built that it forces me to use every single ability my character has just to reemerge into daylight that makes me love it so much. Plus, they are gorgeous. When I first emerged into Blackreach, I literally spent the first couple of minutes just turning in a slow 360 and just admiring the design!

Love to Bethesda for the thought that they put into this game!!!

OH that's what the chitin is for! LOL I never collected Falmer gear and was wondering why the Chaurus would drop chitin. I thought once I get my smithing to 100 I could make some cool Morrowind chitin armor, but no such luck LOL

But yea, I love the Dwemer ruins and that cave the OP mentions is very cool indeed!

Yup, Chaurus are a major pain in the butt! Mix or buy some resist poison potions!!!

My favorite Falmer Realm: http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/7430/magickshrooms.jpg

Yus, thats Blackreach, which is one of the best dungeon(s) in the game. =D

Love them Both
Though personally....Wolfskull cave and The wolf queens crypt were my Favs...Combined them with the quest line "The boy Who cried wolf", The tension got enormus. But Maybe the reason was because i always loved the Wolf queens books.
