Falmer woes ...

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 12:14 am

My mage and I are being beaten badly (by which I mean killed) by a trio of Falmer Gloomlurkers in the Dwemer ruins of Mzulft. Up until now, I've been killing falmer by summoning my Flame Atronach (the only atronach I can conjure), and casting firebolts when I can. But these guys are just too much for us. Are there any spells that Falmer are particularly vulnerable to? I just don't have enough magica to summon two or three flame atronachs, and I am hurting.

I haven't noticed that they're really vulnerable to anything other than a sneak attack with a bow. Have you tried using weapons, or are you RPing a pure mage? If so, you may have to adjust the difficulty if they're giving you that much trouble.

They are vulnerble to fire, but the higher level falmer are no joke, they deal more damage and can handle more.

Might be a case of too low a level. Go away, come back a few levels later and own them. Other than that try to expand your attacking/defensive options. Potions, poisons, wards, companions etc etc ... when I come across an enemy that is really destroying me, I just whip out my staff of paralysis. But it's a little over-powered so I try and keep its use to a minimum.

I found them really hard at lower lvl's. I would go back at them later. Also they have pet bugs that do alot of damage.

haha! pet bugs. but yeah, Charus are nasty.

Most of the Dwemer ruins are for mid range to high level.

Summon and run. Your fire Atronach will slowly reduce their health even if only due to her death implosion. Monster health do not regenerate. Repeat until win.

The falmer are horrible. Even as a big beefy warrior I find them difficult to deal with. They seem to not like fire, and the best things I've found to deal with them is your fire dragon breath, if you have it yet.
If you're beeing basically gangraqed by a bunch of the [censored]ers, try to back off so you're cornered, then you can hit all of them with one shout, which should do a fair amount of damage to them. I then proceed to slap them silly with molag baals mace, which tends to finish things off nicely. Once they're down in health after your sneaky cornered shout tactics fingers crossed your destruction spells should have more effect?

Good luck. Remember, every time you kill a falmer, god mastvrbates a kitten.

Thanks, all. I've just made level 10, so it sounds like I shouldn't have started this mage quest yet. I am pretty good with a bow, that helped earlier, but it doesn't seem to faze these guys. I hate the tought of going away and coming back at a better level, because I just hate those Charuses.

If you can find a weapon with an enchantment that causes opponents a certain amount of health damage that'd be good. If you can find one that also sets them on fire, it's even beter. :) I'm really emphasising on the fact they dont like fire.
One of the only times I ever use Destruction spells (Primarily a warrior rather than a mage) is when I have to deal with falmer. Flames and flame cloak do quite well.

Question: If I go away and come back later, will all the monsters respawn or will they be cleared out until I get back to the room with the three nasties?

What level are you? You shouldn't tackle Dwarven ruins below level 10, really.

The dungeon will be reset if you leave for a whole in-game month. That should be ample time for you to get ripped.

I second the person who said summon and run. Place a fire rune near where you're hiding as an additional defense. If you have any poison/ magic resist potions or equipment, use them. The poison arrows and chaurus bites that poison you sap health quickly.

Always carry a few paralysis potions for poisoning your weapons too, they can really help. Imp Stool and Canis Root aren't too hard to find , Briar Hearts and Swamp Fungal Pods are rarer.

For a conjurer your best bet is to resurrect one of their friends to fight them.

If you can't summon your atronachs repeatedly you have a magicka problem that needs addressed. I can just repeatedly summon my distraction while blasting away with lightning bolts in the other hand. And I'm not high level.

OMG level 10! Yea, I mean I made a new sneak/archer toon and I stumbled into a dwemer ruin for a quest (quest was a bandit after I killed him, I went further into the ruin) I was level 18 and OMG 2 Dwemer guardians kicked my butt! I killed them (barley) and then I turned around and RAN. I was level 18 at the time. I'm level 33 right now and I haven't been back into a Dwemer ruin hahahahaha (too busy with Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild stuff, it's my 3rd character btw LOL)

So yea, Gloomlurkers kick butt at any level AND destroy butt at level 10. There are so many other quests you can do. Go level some more and then go back to hand the falmer's their butts!

@ Timberman - OH yea! Paralysis helped me out in many situations! I agree! Best poison to have in a pinch!

If you have it, the Ice Form shout helps a lot. Just freeze them solid, and tackle them one at a time.

Also just say no to the Sightless pit. I jumped in at low lvl and those dang bugs kill you quick. Can't wait to lvl up and go back in there.

What about shooting off and learning Ice Form shout and using it to neutralize one of them?

This, and doing so might let you kite one out at a time so it's two v. one. You may want to consider a companion change as well. Bring a tank, rather than conjuring one.

Finally! Based on good advice I've gotten here. I hid at the far side of the room, til one of them came lurking my way. I stunned him with an ice form, ran out and killed him quickly. then ran away, lurked some more, rinsed and repeated. At last I got 'em all, including the Gloomlurker with the Focusing Crystal. Thanks all!

Green.... part of this may be that you're new to the mechanics still. Once you're more comfortable with the way the game works (as far as hand-eye coordination etc.) it may not be so difficult for you.
