Farkas you absolute [censored]

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 12:36 pm

So I waited to do the companion quest's, I'm now level 48 and playing a sneak character. Draugr deathlords I can deal with easy with sneak, but farkas keeps [censored] it up, so irritating, and when I'm sneaking he doesn't fight back he just follows me dieing.

Yeah actually I have a problem with this quest, don't get me wrong I love Skyrim and won't hear a word said against it still... but one minute you see him turn into a Warewolf and tear those Silver Hands a new one, the next he's down on one knee cos a Druger or whatever the hell they are called has whacked him with an ancient rusty sword.

I mean come on! Turn back into a Warewolf you gimp! And right at the end when hoards of them are chasing me around the buriel chamber where is he? Has he turned into a Warewolf? No! He's down on one knee again! Farkas you Farking Farker!

Haha, I'm a bit worried about the last part of this quest (second playthrough btw), they will all be deathlords and other high leveled draugr, a problem with farkas. Just have to sit in a corner and bow and arrow them whilst hidden, with farkas dying next to me of course. <_<

I heard something about them being able to disarm you and you drop your weapon? Just killed like 10 of them and all they used was the force shout?

That happened to me. Not with Farkas, but when exploring the High Ruins. The Draugir Lord (or whatever they're called) used some sort of frost blast and all of a sudden I was using my fists and had to equip another weapon. At first I feared that he'd broken/destroyed my weapon, but after the fight I found it lying on the ground next to some frost patches and it had just been knocked out of my hand.

The deathlords? They use a more powerful force shout. If your standing right in front of them when they do it it might disarm you depending on your level. But it doesn't drain any health and its better then them shooting you with their one-shot arrows.

Well I don't usually give them the chance to shoot me or shout, it was farkas being a [censored] that made me go double 1h on them

Sorry for the necro, but I see it as waste to start a new thread on a subject that already exist.

Farkas was some braniacs idea to make things more difficult for the player, I certainly cannot think of any other reason, he is forcefully paired with the player, enemies rip through his armour like it's tissue paper, he constantly leads the enemies to you when you are stealthed, I watched him take on another 2h, the enemy 2h took him down in 3 swings.

So my conclusion is, no matter your play style, Farkas is forced on the player purposely to make things more difficult.

Ha, got rid of this character (the post) ages ago.

I think it's best to do the quest as soon as possible, get it out of the way. He doesn't level, so you want him fighting draugr not draugr deathlords.

I agree, but the whole thing negates "play it your way"; the best example is of course playing a stealth character that wants to join the companions, not possible to be stealthy with that lummox, I have found a couple of little tricks but it takes over an hour even on just adept to complete one section while keeping Farkas out of the way, Vilkas mentions keeping him alive, oh how I wish I could kill him!!

I'm strongly tempted to skip the Companions line on my stealthy characters, it's just too irritating running mission after mission with a bunch of tactically declined idiots. Not coincidentally, this is also the main reason I seldom bother with the Civil War quests, since then it's 8-14 idiots instead of 1.

Just tell him to wait when you enter the dungeon then run back if you need him for something

I didn't have that dialog option. I assumed it was because not only was he supposed to "watch" me (to make sure I was "honorable") but because of the scripted Silver Hand/werewolf encounter.

I noticed the sneaking thing with Farkas too, he wont defend himself, he'll just stand there like a derp staring at me while he's getting hacked apart. Does this happen with any other followers?

No clue. The only followers I have are the ones that get forced on a given toon when doing quests - like Farkas, or Tolfdir.... How weird is it, btw, that the first time I ever did the Companions questline, I had Vilkas instead of Farkas, and I've never had him again.... That was before any patches though....

Sometimes I will have problems with followers not fighting back, but it seems pretty random and not linked to any situation/action.

That being said, I stopped using melee followers after too many instances of unintentionally hitting them in the face in melee combat. I swear they intentionally run in front of you. Borderline useless anyway since they can't tank mudcrabs.

This! Although the cutscene of me and my follower being tossed is a bit annoying, that one-shot thing is out of order. One of them did that, reloaded and tried again. When I looted him to at least recover my ebony arrows, I found he had equipped them! Well, they are a lot better than those ancient Nordic arrows. It's funny how I can find arrows in my inventory or that of my follower that don't belong there, just from being shot.

It's happening more often now with Aela, who is an excellent sneak attack follower. Even so, I sometimes hear her say, "Ugh!" or "Is that all you've got?" and there she is being attacked. I think it has something to do with the logic the game uses to prevent certain actions. I know I've read that housecarls generally won't get into a scrap in town since it would reflect on their thane. It seems to apply to others, though. Aela used to pick fights with wildlife, especially horkers and mudcrabs. Now she ignores the horkers, and only gets excited by mudcrabs when we are in the water. Generally, though, she gets into fights with that demon summoned by her Sanguine Rose. :ermm:

Conveniently, I just did this quest on another character at level 16 on master. Being level 16 compared to level 30 was so much easier, the silver hand scale rapidly.

I assume that when your followers sneak, they wait for you to attack first, thats why they don't attack. Not the best system though. Give them muffled boots, possibly the ebony mail as well, they will then be sneak gods regardless of their sneak skill.

My sneaky archer had some success in this quest this time (I was level 31) by summoning a fire atronach for almost all encounters. The atronach attacks stuff as soon as they turn into red dots, and this motivated Farkas to do something instead of just creeping around next to me and staring at me. He then went down, of course, but when he got back up, he was so far away that he had a difficult time to lure the foes back to me.

when you come upon a room with few deathlords, backtrack a bit with farkas, turn him into an ice cube with ice form and then run to the room with the deathlords and use sneak to take them all out. by that time farkas should be thawing out.
