Favourite is probably Futurama followed by The Simpsons, but I like various non-animated sitcoms, too.

Examples: Community, Party Down, Arrested Development, Better of Ted, The League
Other shows: Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Spartacus (lol)

The thing is I tend to not follow the drama shows (such long episodes and inflexible times), and most of the sitcoms I like are not ongoing. I'm watching Generation Kill right now.

Also, I like Archer.

I loved (new) Battlestar Galactica until it went silly. The second series is probably the best TV drama there has ever been.

I'd agree with Dexter, and add to that Rome - the HBO-BBC co-production which was just brilliantly acted.

I've got the Buffy and Angel boxed sets - I wouldn't say they're perfect by any stretch, but they're perfectly entertaining for the most part. I also bought American Gothic, which hasn't aged well but still has its moments.

My favourite comedy show is Spaced.

If I tried to name all my favorite ones that aren't currently on air I'd forget most at first then wind up editing this post over and over and over... so I'll just post my favorites that I watch regularly. And thanks to only being able to watch television via Hulu for the time being, that'd be House and Fringe.

Before this season of House I was really losing hope in the show. But it's amazing how much letting House have a relationship with Cuddy changed the series for the better. Honestly I'd say this has been the best season yet. Hopefully Cuddy breaking up with him wont result in the same running-in-circles feeling the previous seasons had, but so far that doesn't seem to be the case.

As for Fringe, that's improved a lot as well. I liked it a lot during it's first season, but that was 100% because John Noble was such an absolutely amazing actor that I had to keep watching. After the second half of season 2 it really started getting good and now in season 3 it's become an all around great series. I'm glad it was renewed for another season, and I just hope it's good enough to save it from constantly being on the edge of being cancelled.

Completely forgot about Rome. That was an amazing, albeit short series.
Spartacus:Blood and Sand and Gods of the Arena are both excellent as well.

That 70's Show (Number one favorite)
How I Met Your Mother
The Big Bang Theory
The Simpsons
American Dad

The Cleveland Show and Family Guy have their funny moments but I think Seth should focus on one and just cancel the other. Family Guy just hasn't been as funny as it was before the Cleveland Show came around.

The Wire is the greatest show ever made. Period. Nothing else really comes close. If you haven't seen it, see it. Like, it should be a mandatory program for all citizens of the planet earth. The Bunk, man, the Bunk!

Otherwise:

There are probably more, but I can't think of them at the moment.

The only TV show from the past ~5 years or so that I found enjoyable is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_IT_Crowd. I still watch Simpsons now and then too, but it kinda lost it's spark compared to the excellent season 6 & 7. Other good humoristic shows are Futurama and Arrested Development.

Besides good humor, I'm a huge fan of the mini-series of the 80s, like Shogun and North & South only to mention a few, and a fan of the detective shows of the 70s and 80s like The Persuaders, Streets of San Francisco, Remington Steele and so on.

Top Gear. Always has been, always will be.

Also a bit of a svcker for Heroes (only seen season one though and a bit of two)

Here in the UK, Mock the Week and Have I Got News For You are always great (unless on HIGNFY the host is the most unfunny and serious guy ever)

Apart from that, I don't watch TV. Too busy gaming (or working)

Nova, Scientific American, National Geographic, Big Bang Theory, Supernatural, Masterpiece Theatre, RIck Bayless' Mexico, One Plate at a Time, and Lidia's Kitchen.
Occasionally I will watch Bones or House, but IMO, both have jumped the shark.
