To My Fellow Modders: How do you feel?

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 12:13 am

I just can't get into Skyrim like I used to modded Oblivion. Skyrim's guilds and quests aren't that great...but I think its more along the lines of I need a complete overhaul in the vein of Oscurs or Frans to really get me excited for Skyrim again. I couldn't play Oblivion without them. Vanilla Skyrim is much better, but something is still missing?

Maybe the next batch of dlc will spice things up around here.

I seriously wouldnt mind if they did fix the Navmesh bug someone overhauling every guild in the game.

I stated this before in another forum but the guilds are quite sad. The only reason I join the Companions is to become a werewolf for the 100% disease immunity.

Thieves guild doesnt give much you get fences but oh hey lvl 70 in speech and anyone you pay becomes a fence so Thieves guilds worthless now in that aspect.

Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion you used to be able to kill people in a certain way and get cool awsome new gear and items that couldnt be found anywhere else now its jsut a money guild which is in over abundance.

THe mages college is basically a Sneeze of a sidetrack its not even really worth mentioning as a guild with how short it is and how lack luster it is to complete it.

:/ if someone overhauled all the guilds to even a shadow of Oblivion theyd be leaps and bounds better than they are now.

Chiming in again since I see papyrus scripting being thrown around a little as a source of difficulty. While papyrus is more complicated than previous installments of the scripting language, and it does have its quirks, all in all it's been an extremely powerful tool. This community desperately needs more good scripters, or at least bad aspiring scripters (as I once was) that are willing to learn. There is still so much potential this game has, and papyrus scripting makes many of those things possible.

Nothing in papyrus is abjectly broken that I've found, other than FormLists. http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1365445-bug-formlist-functions-seem-to-break-under-certain-conditions/page__fromsearch__1. Thankfully the language has arrays, which makes them less necessary.

If anyone has specific questions about Papyrus or is having trouble, I'm always willing to provide assistance. I only ask that you write some of your own code, and try to make it work before you contact me. It's the only way you learn.

Very true, this. I highly recommend taking the time to learn Papyrus, as I have found that the only serious difficulty is at the very start. Once you've gotten past the intimidation factor, Papyrus is very easy to use and will actually start feeling quite simple (which compared to other full languages, it is).

I'm working hard on Project Parallax, and it gets very exhausting.

_Actually I Like the Game graphics , I like the setting , I like the story and is what drived me to make my mods but ...

I don't like bugs , I don't like interface , I do not like the lack of support , I do not like the lack of communication with devs , I do not like the lack of proper import export working tools , I do not like that modders to mod skyrim need 100 different extra hacking tools and programs to make something work in game , when in other game dev kits you just click a button , so the productivity is quite compromised ....
Something that in Cryengine I do in 2 hours , for Skyrim needs 2 days at the best , where 1 hour is actual creation process and 47 hours to understand how to make it work ingame ....

This is what I do not like , I do not complain for the papyrus couse it looks just as a programming language , wich is complicate but fine as long as everything works because there is nothing more frustrating than trying banging head on something trying to solve and discover after that all u where doing was right but the program is bugged ....

that said I also do not like the gameplay and the over simplification of skyrim , I sincerely do notunderstand why all this success compared to other better games around , how they could get so many awards , the graphic tech is backward compared to others , the gameplay is over simlified compared to previous TES titles and too much streamlined to be like a consolle game for kids , there is a lot of unfinished stuff ingame , like no horse combat , no perk trees for wherewolves , no dynamic and promised so much snow and season , no large environment and cities , no more attributes , the main quest is too short and unsatisfactory in the end , the other quests are too streamlined and similar to each other , the dungeons are all the same sequence of events and style , the overall judgement over the game is not stellar , it had potential , the ideas where great but failed to succeed in realizing too many things and this I believe only for one reason .... trying to put out an unfinished game on a specified date 11 11 11 just for the "coolness factor" but too much stuff was left out , like a undeveloped crafting system , useless cooking , etc etc ....

I'm still fence sitting, but maybe getting busy will cure this cramp in my ass. I need to see how the Blender scripts are progressing. I wish I was able to help with them.

It's already been said but I'll say it again, hopefully after the dlc comes out Bethesda will be able to communicate more with the modding community again. I'll bet that the devs havnt been allowed to talk to us just in case they accidentally give us a spoiler. Anyhow, it's still early days, I still cannot wait to see what the game will look like in 5 years time (obviously that depends on if there still is a modding community by then :P)
