No Female Avatars

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:25 am

First off, I can understand her frustration over their not being an equal amount of gender representation. Look at it this way: alot of other online games have only males in them. The problem with that it...that's all they ever do. Game after game after game, they only have males in them.

then she should be used to it, especially if shes an FPS player like she says...

You would think that in this day and age, there would be a bit more equal representaion in games for males and females.

They do, they're called RPG's. I play females all the time in RPG's, and I like playing the Sisters of Battle in DOW.

I think she let herself down. She saw "character customization" and "Bethesda," and thought Fallout or Oblivion - she got all hyped up, probably with little to no knowledge on the game, then when she found out you couldn't play as a female, she blames the game and calls it stupid.

I actually think A LOT of people see this game and Bethesda in the same sentence, and think Fallout or Oblivion, not even realizing that SD is developing the game.

You're probably right, especially about the part where she let herself down.

I didn't quote anyone so I was under the impression it would be recognized as to the person that posted the topic.

She would need a mole and a Russian accent.

And anyone notice how they change "In Soviet ®ussia" to "I am not funny" I'm sure it's nothing new to most of you, but it just made my day.

Without the ® of course, just a normal one.

Reminds me of a character I made up a long time ago - Baron Von Hugenstein, (Huge-N-Stine) and his arch-nemesis, Ballsy McFartensteen.

I agree that it svcks when you cannot create an avatar of your own gender... however, I do agree with the developers. With male characters, you can measure body types by making them bigger and bulkier. With females, body types are more varied. Unfortunately, including females would take time they don't have. They would have to figure out body types to use (because "bigger and bulkier" doesn't work with females), and would need to construct the models, and do motion capture for varying movements. It would take too much time.

For proof of just how stupid a big bulky female would look, go play Fable 2 and get your female heroes' strength up to 5 stars... *shudders*

Great game in my opinion... but man were there flaws.

I honestly think we got the point across, guys. A mod really ought to lock this, seeing as how all our opinions are falling on deaf ears (i.e. ears that just aren't there).

As a female player of FPS games I was looking forward to the game Brink.

Then, I found out that there there is no female avatars included in the game.

I sat there for a full sixty seconds in silence, frustrated at this bit of news.

Searching the net a bit I came across several quotes about 'why' they would not be included.

Not only was I insulted, I was then pretty much pissed off.

Too much trouble? I see. Well, I will happily take my money and find a game that doesn't think we are 'too much trouble' to design for.

Enjoy your new tattoo's boys. I hope they are as pretty as my ass looks on the way out the door.

Very nice blog material. Goodbye.

If you don't think http://gfx.gaminator.pl/data/character/162/162.3.jpg is a heavy female, then I don't know what is.

BTW, her name is already posted in this thread by me, and since Brink has it's roots with the same game she would have been in, except she would have been in the single player, and Brink would have gotten ideas from that game's multiplayer.

lol, would you want that in the game? Just imagine that they add in female avatars, and they want to figure out a way to do the heavy, and that pops up. Bam, scares away the playerbase, and there will be no sales. DO YOU WANT THAT TO HAPPEN? Huh? HUH?

All dudes like to see are moderately sized females with moderately sized boobs. I mean, if you have a really big one, and an anorexic, they'd just shut off the game and sell it immediately. Also I don't think Splash Damage wanted to deal with that kind of stuff, and where adding female characters would take away from their goal, which is to have light medium and heavies, and like someone said, females aren't simply light, medium, or heavy, unless you count anorexic, normal, and obese.

The funny thing is, sports are absent in the Brink universe. Maybe the Ark administrators banned Sports and Females. No Jocks and No Girls Allowed.

We also know that there are more female athletes than female soldiers. But yet the demand of female characters in FPS is a lot more than the demand for the WNBA, CWHL, or WWHL in the respective sport titles.
